Ozzie will further endear himself with these comments
The only way I see a team taking a risk on Ozzie is if their manager dies or gets canned midseason, and they need somebody capable of leading a contending, maybe veteran team to the playoffs. Fill in only. Hero potential, then maybe an extension. But I just can't see any team with Ozzie Guillen as Plan A going into a season.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
One thing we do need is competitive veteran leadership. Granderson brings with him a few intangibles that might outweigh his horrid splits. I'd still prefer jacoby because 1) he's a more balanced hitter 2) he really makes us solid defensively, taking tons of pressure off Tank and AG. I think it makes more sense. I'm torn.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
This makes me want to puke. Might as well extend Dunn's contract and bat them 3-4 for the next 7 years.

How Should Rick Hahn Fix The White Sox
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 12:37 AM) I thought we could keep A. Garcia, Viciedo (pray he can become a hitter) and Dunn (where's he gonna go) and get rid of basically everybody else. I don't think this will happen but I wouldn't be pissed if it did.

How Should Rick Hahn Fix The White Sox
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 6, 2013 -> 08:53 PM) I don't think any team should ever rebuild unless the entire roster is talentless. I'm surprised how many people voted for it. I'd venture there are a lot more examples of last to 1st then there are rebuilds that pay off in a short period of time. And sustained sucess is nothing but a mirage. Large payroll teams can do it and those lucky enough to have stumbled across great draft classes and luck with injuries. Amen brotha.

2016 Post-All Star Break White Sox
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 2, 2013 -> 10:07 PM) That's what I'm saying! Looking at his stats though, an .839 OPS would have qualified him in the top 30 in baseball and he was on a 30 homer pace. Still shocking though. Lol there's just no way any of this true.

2014 Outfield
I think I side with the argument that Garcia's size will prevent him from being a plus CF long term. Therefore we shouldn't even bother sticking him out there. Let's find a plus plus defensive CF to help Avi n Tank/Aza. Danks might really evolve into a plus 4 which is great to have. Garcia in center is not maximizing run prevention. Seems forced.

One move...
QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 1, 2013 -> 03:13 PM) I still wonder if Zimmerman or Rondon would be available from Washington. Are they playing Rondon at 2B instead? What do you think of Arenado from the Rockies? That team annually needs pitching.

2014 Outfield
Would anybody bet that Tank-De Aza-Garcia is out starting outfield next year? I guess no. What are the chanes the Sox play Garcia in CF? I guess not likely. Who's more likely to be out. De Aza or Tank.

One move...
Things we need: A star position player One more really good hitter We can win with that and all the potentially good hitters we already have. I'd look for Hahn to make some noise by acquiring a young star. Energize the base in one offseason.

Favorite non-star White Sox players
QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Sep 25, 2013 -> 04:00 PM) I liked Serigo Santos a lot when he was closer Good call. Remember that behind the scenes video of the brass telling him he made the team? Beautiful moment.

9/24 at Indians
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 07:55 PM) I really wonder if Dunn's going to retire It's gotta be tough not being able to help the team while at the same time collecting the biggest check. Poor guy, can't even help when he tries.

Purcey out for remainder of season
Damn. Do we have a Plan B?

9/23 vs Blue Jays
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 23, 2013 -> 08:51 PM) It sucks Phegley isn't good. Sucks even more that we had to find out. If Beckham, Tank n Flowers were all good instead of total busts we'd be talking a decade of title contention instead of talking about signing McCann to be the prettiest piece of s*** in the catching toilet next year

Your Realistic 2014 Lineup
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 17, 2013 -> 05:17 PM) If Gillaspie and Keppinger as a platoon could put up ~.750 OPS numbers together, which I note is worse than Connor's OPS against righties this year by a little and worse than Keppinger's OPS against lefties in his career by a lot, that would be good enough to put the White Sox 13th in MLB in offensive production out of 3rd base. Again, it's not Miguel Cabera spectacular and I'm not going to oppose efforts to improve on that if there's a stud available somewhere, but those 2 splitting time *should* give numbers that are tolerable based on what they've done in their careers. Indeed but this proposal would only happen if we upgraded big-time elsewhere and were making a run at it. Otherwise why not develop somebody full time at the position if we are punting 2014. I say tell Keppinger to GFH.

Your Realistic 2014 Lineup
QUOTE (scs787 @ Sep 17, 2013 -> 11:26 AM) I'm still liking taking a chance on Chase Headley even if it takes Santiago to get him. He's a gold glove 3rd basemen who if you discard his 1 really bad month still put up a .269/.361/.473(inflated by his .308/.400/.718 September so far.....763 ops if you discard Sept)....I know people will bring up how he only had 1 big year but if you look at his home/road splits he's put up an ops over .800 in 2011(.864), 2009(.803), and 2008(.831) on the road as well. So I think taking him out of Petco and putting him in the Cell will do him a lot of good....I'd like to get him for less than Santiago if possible but probably wouldn't hesitate to do it straight up. We only get one shot at this trading from our pitching strength to upgrade positional deficiency. I think we need to go after a younger player.

How comfortable are you rooting for the draft pick?
I'm not rooting for a draft pick...but I'm sure not upset at losses any more.

Reasons Rick Hahn Would Land Cano
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 12:47 PM) Quintana has 2 years left before arbitration and 5 years left before free agency. Santiago has 1 year left before arbitration and 4 before free agency. Sale's already extended. Rienzo and Johnson each have 3 years left before arbitration and 6 years left before free agency. Reed and Jones also have 1 year left pre-arb and 4 years before free agency. This pitching staff is under control for a long, long time. The first one hits free agency the same year Alex Rodriguez does. Yea. Ideally we spend for offense now while the pitching is cheap. In 4-5 years when the pitching gets expensive, hopefully some of these offensive guys we recently drafted start panning out and the offense gets cheap. I don't really care about Cano. I'd wager the Yankees can't afford to let him go anyway. But we should still spend some f***ing money.

Reasons Rick Hahn Would Land Cano
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 12:18 PM) I agree with you on Cano. He's a guy for a team that tries to win every year and doesn't care if it has dead money at the end. Here's another way to say my position. With the White Sox current roster, they have 1 incredibly gigantic hole that needs filled at 1b. They have a player at every position otherwise who pencils in as the starter next season. The Sox may not like every player and they may be interested in upgrades at those slots, but every other position has a body with some potential. If the Sox can land Abreu, they can go into next season saying "if a few things go our way we're a competitive team right now". If they don't believe in one or two guys, like either Phegley or Viciedo, that doesn't change it. They have more than enough money to fill the gaping hole at 1b and replace one of those guys as well. When the team has money to spend and a highly above average pitching staff, there really is zero reason to bite the bullet and plan to lose for 2-3 years. They're not waiting out bad contracts like the Angels might be, they're not waiting on guys in the low minors to show up like the Cubs/Astros are, they have a roster they can run with right now. Exactly. The time is now. Our winning pitching window just opened.
-
Reasons Rick Hahn Would Land Cano
I think he could still sign Ellsbury if he wanted too. We could contend for real if we spend. Our minors need another 2-3 years for offense to turn out. Does $40-50M per year get you those 2? Tickets would sell.
-
Reasons Rick Hahn Would Land Cano
Something like 3/100M or for 4/110. Pay extra to avoid lengthy contract. 1. Energizes fanbase. Shows he won't settle for a crap team or a lengthy rebuild. 2. Strike while cubs are bad to steal casual fan. Cubs are another 3-5 years from being good, and that's being conservative. 3. Use the pitching while it's cheap and go for it. Since the pitching is cheap he can splurge on offense a little. 4. Changes public image to Dick Hahn, Rick's badass alter ego.
