SOX GAMETHREAD: TAKING YU DOWN FOR THE 4 COUNT

Here's the opposite approach....suggested KW strategy
Jerksticks replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Amen! My opinion is that KW is quietly building a young powerhouse. The pitching stables are deep, and the low minors may be riddled with talent. He has done exactly what Theo n Kids are supposedly trying to do. Don't listen to Keith Law and sorts because this farm is stacked and produces MLB talent like crazy. Imagine if Beckham was the stud he looked like in 2009. We'd be nearly unstoppable. So I vote to stay the course and keep the stables full as well. KW4MVP -
GT: Chicago White Sox @ Detroit Tigers

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 01:51 PM) I'd like to see him hit over .200 with the White Sox. That's something I'd like from a big time FA who's hitting 3rd in the lineup. Me too. I hope Adam Dunn is finally evidence enough for some people to admit that OBP is not completely superior to BA. Sweet Fancy Moses is this guy useless at 3 -

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 02:58 PM) With all the attention on Youk, I seriously didn't remember he was on the team. It's like he just vanished, and no one noticed. Rambo, what mean expendable? -
John Danks diagnosed with a grade 1 scapula tear
Jerksticks replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) Why are people acting as if this matters? Injury or not, Danks was -- quite possibly -- the worst pitcher in our rotation. Losing him did not hurt us...probably helped us. If he did come back, would he have returned to form? And if he did, what form ar we talking about? That of last year, or his better years prior to that? His career numbers do not suggest he's a #1 or even a #2, IMO. In either case, who knows, since it doesn't look like he's coming back anytime soon. All we can use is the statistical data we have, and based on last season and this season his WHIP and ERA were on the rise, and his effectiveness as an under powering pitcher were on the fall. He was practically an automatic loss this season unless we got him out of the game early enough. The few starts he had that were quality were few and far between the really bad ones. Let's not pretend the loss of Danks is the reason we need another pitcher...even if he wasn't injured, we'd need another pitcher BECAUSE of him. Practically every team in MLB would want another quality starting pitcher...the loss or gain of Danks wouldn'teit have changed that, either. I agree with you man. He's always my least favorite pitcher to watch. It always seems like he only has 2 pitches to me and maybe more importantly, he's proven he's afraid to pitch inside. I don't know how he's lasted this long. -
I think players sucked on purpose to get Ozzie out of here. Absolutely no proof either way, whatever you believe.

I wonder why Kenny has Axlerod on the team; anybody can tell he has no stuff, he's a righty with a limp fastball, and on top of that he walks guys. Am I right to assume no GM would want anyhting to do with Axlerod except maybe as some kind of minor league filler? Clearly not a MLB caliber pitcher, and it has nothing and everything to do with yesterday. Just not good enough and there doesn't seem to be any way he ever could be good enough. And he has one of those weird heads that goes way back instead of pretty much straight up from the neck like most humans. And his grill is scary. Even if he was good nobody is gonna buy that thing's jersey. "Indiana, let it go."

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 4, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) If anything, we should be more worried about how hard Robin's pushing all the starters, particularly AJ. You just wonder how long they can hold up. It worked wonderfully for Ozzie to have his Sunday line-ups in 2005 and 2008, but the pendulum's really swung back the other direction, with our bench being perhaps the least utilized of any in the majors (and hard to fault Ventura, they're really just not that good that any of those guys should be pressing for additional playing time or starting roles). I hear ya but it's also nice to finally have A LINEUP. Looks like they will sink or swin together. I guess that's how I prefer it. Paulie, Tank and AJ are the only guys that need days off IMO.

John Danks diagnosed with a grade 1 scapula tear
Jerksticks replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 2, 2012 -> 07:39 AM) Glad to hear Danks might be close, though it makes me nervous that he is still having discomfort. I hope they aren't missing something. Don't want the 75 million dollar 2-pitch pitcher coming back less than 100%. He needs to be healthy for the 2 pitches to work effectively, specifically spotting the 92mph fastball on the outer half, never daring to throw it inside to good hitters or really any hitters for that matter.. I need him healthy enough to walk 3-6 batters per game consistently too. -
QUOTE (sunofgold @ May 11, 2012 -> 11:15 PM) Maybe this one needs instructions. DA..pause...DA...be sure to stress the second DA. Makes it very dramatic. And the word DA has so many meanings. How do you like me know? DA....DA So now Konerko is KoKo?

Sale back to the rotation per KW, MRI comes back clean
Jerksticks replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ok I've never heard of teams doing this but is it possible that they are? 2012- Bullpen sandwiched between 5 starts at the beginning and end of the season- total 10 starts 2013- Bullpen sandwiched between 8-10 starts at the beginning and end of the season- total 20 starts 2014- All starts, 32 or whatever. This would adequately stretch his inning total over the next few years, but is it a dangerous way to treat an arm? I kinda like it if it works and isn't too dangerous lol. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 10, 2012 -> 06:31 AM) Do any SABR heads know what the highest BABIP sustained over a full season is? Not sure if any historical SABR records like that are kept. (Obviously it won't go back that long in history) Oh man I'd love to know. .500 after this many balls hit in play? That seems insane to me. What about highest BABIP to start a season, first 50 game etc. If Rizzo ends up being a monster and Lahair and Shark are the real deal (blah blah if Beckham and Morel hit and Rios and Dunn bounce back blah blah), then this might be a pretty quick rebuild for the cubs.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 10, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) Orioles just led off their game against the Rangers with 3 straight jacks. Some team needs to remind them of who they really are; they are who we thought they were!

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 9, 2012 -> 05:07 PM) I really wish we had a better reserve infielder to use against RHP. Escobar has no business on the major league roster. Spot on. Morel and Beckham are supposed to be the talented ones; that says it all about Mr. Escobar.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 8, 2012 -> 10:12 AM) Besides Chris Carter for Carlos Quentin, when's the last time we actually landed a good young bat via trade? The organization was also very high on Jon Adkins, Felix Diaz, Sean Tracey, Chris Marquez, Nick Masset, David Aardsma, Sisco, MacDougal, Zach Stewart...now Nestor Molina. PROVE IT with some results on the field instead of the PR/Chris Rongey/Scott Merkin talk. When's the last time we actually needed to land a good young bat? Sure you can argue every day of every year but so can every team. If Beckham and Quentin did what they were supposed to do then we wouldn't need a bat. Morel would still be struggling but we wouldn't care. Give KW a chance to try again I say, and I think it's time. We have tons of prospects that are mysteries like in the Peavy deal. d

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 7, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) 27 picks after the Tigers pick White Sox took Addison Reed Cue the "Well one is a starter" noise. I like all the left-handed mystery pitchers we have. They are all gonna be nice filler for that trade that lands us a young bat.

Chris Sale is now the CLOSER?!/Until he's not (Update)
Jerksticks replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think tons of teams would shell out prospects for Sale this summer. If our management thinks he is an injury risk long term then we need to get rid of him. Throw him out of the bullpen the next 2 months, make it look like he's fine, and then trade him. If he can't start then he is more valuable as a young impact bat we receive than as a RP for us. There will be teams willing to take the risk. -
QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2012 -> 04:32 PM) We really don't have a competitive team this year with Axelrod being placed into the rotation. The sooner you come to realize that, the easier it is to accept. Hope for Beckham and Viciedo to prove they can actually start in the majors...and that's about the only reason to watch anymore. This. I think if we trade for a good young bat we can compete though. s***, maybe 2-3 or 4 bats. This lineup as is will not effectively grind down any pitchers all year.

Chris Sale is now the CLOSER?!/Until he's not (Update)
Jerksticks replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2012 -> 04:31 PM) Not really. The Sox traded for him when he was healthy using the same players as bait. That's when he said no. For sure. I wonder if Chris Sale is about to be traded for a young bat. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2012 -> 10:29 PM) The sooner we part ways with Kenny Williams, the better off we are for the future. This latest debacle with Chris Sale was foreseeable a mile away. You would think he might have learned with Santos? Traded him for what looks like the equivalent of another Nick Blackburn in Molina who will at best be a 4th or 5th starter. So he's going to turn Sale into another Santos then trade him away, too, but only after he signs a long-term extension, so everyone can wonder what the hell is going on in Chicago? For the future, they'd actually be better off just giving Sale a pre-emptive TJ surgery before he ruptures the elbow at some point in the indeterminate future and then have to wait another year more until he can start again. Of course, you can't force Chris to do that against his will. They've taken an A ball pitcher from a year ago who just started to build and gain in confidence, named him the closer because they apparently didn't have enough depth in Thornton and Ohman (and because they didn't want to or couldn't pay Frasor) and messed him up. Santiago should be starting at Birmingham or Charlotte, doesn't matter where. He's not a reliever going forward, especially with Sale now doomed to the pen. Put Sale into Thornton's role and make Reed the closer. Trade Thornton to the highest bidder. Rinse, repeat, do the same thing with Jesse Crain when he comes back and proves himself and gets his FB back to 93-96. So they've already moved around or messed up Beckham (2 changes), Viciedo (3-4 changes), Santiago and Chris Sale. Who's next? All because our GM left us dangerously lacking in depth at the major league level by making idiotic trades like the Mark Teahen move, then signing him to an extension, then having to trade away our best pitcher last year at the break because Williams just wanted to dump his mistake from the roster. Other than DeAza, Humber and Santos (and the jury's still out because at least 50% of us believe Molina will end up another Zach Stewart and Marco Paddy another Dave Wilder minus the bribes and gay night clubs), absolutely nothing KW has done has worked out. At a certain point, it's not just bad luck (Peavy/Dunn/Rios), it's bad decision-making, planning and strategic thinking. This is the biggest crisis for the White Sox since the White Flag, signing Albert Belle and going with "The Kids Can Play" campaign. This offseason, the whole future of this organization was tied into the performances of Sale, Morel, Viciedo, Beckham and Molina. Even with Dunn, Rios and Peavy contributing, there's still way too many holes if you remove Sale from the rotation and that's also assuming Beckham and Viciedo hit. It's gotten to the point the last week or so with Danks showing diminished velocity (hope and pray it's a "dead arm" and not something else) and Alexei Ramirez an OPS in the 400's...you just start to wonder what else can go wrong with this organization? There are some glimmers of hope in Phegley, Mitchell, Saladino, Thompson, Castro...but we need some minor miracles now to contend in 2014. 1) Good trades (crosses fingers, hopefully no other GM could be THIS bad) 2) Reed and/or Jones to become a lockdown closer 3) Santiago/Castro/Molina/Axelrod/Hernandez (2 of them) to become competent big leaguers 4) Viciedo/Beckham/Morel and Flowers/Phegley (one or the other) to make it P.S. Zach Stewart sucks, thanks for nothing Marco Paddy! This just assumes so much it makes me sick. None of your points are the absolutes that you make them out to be.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 12:22 PM) A .500 season with development from the kids is all you can ask from this season. Yea but the pitching seems quite loaded. We might be the only team this year that's in damn near every game. I'd put our staff, 1-5, against any other staff. Too bad playoff series aren't 15 games long.
