QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) It looks like there’s some serious bad blood forming between the Guillen family and the White Sox organization. The Oney stuff is well documented (although, Ibis Guillen’s parking lot confrontation with KW has flown a bit under the radar.), but this Ozney stuff seems like a further indicator of just how bad things are getting. Cowley had this to say about the Ozney pick, “Ozney selected in the 22nd round by the Sox - basically a slap in the face as far as the Guillens are concerned. He will go to USF says Oz,” and the comments given by Ozzie (in direct contrast to an interview with Merkin three days prior) confirm this. Cowley concluded with this, "Translation - the cold war between manager and GM is as frigid as ever. “An ominous but unsurprising conclusion. A conclusion that was retweeted (and reaffirmed) by Oney Guillen. What’s clear here is that while Oney is not representative of his father or his father’s opinions, there does seems to be something at work here. I imagine a lot of the juicy bits will be saved for the reality show, but things aren’t right between the Guillen's and the White Sox. I can’t help but think that Jerry Reinsdorf is the only reason that Ozzie is still here. http://twitter.com/cst_sox I fail to see how drafting a non prospect in the 22nd round is a slap in the face.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 02:17 AM) It's not Ozzie's fault that this team sucks. Did anyone expect this team to contend? It's full of a lot of sorry ass players, and the ones who are good are not living up to it (save a few guys obviously). If Ozzie made 100% of the correct moves this year, is this team still anywhere near .500? Probably not. You can only play w/ the cards you are dealt. Ozzie was dealt a 2-7 off-suit. i once won a pot with a 2-7

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) He's talking about Carlos Quentin. ahhhhh ok my bad i was confused with jones. yes i think carlos could finish with those numbers, no doubt

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 06:27 AM) Why not? He's on pace for 93 rbis and 20 hrs. He's shown some life lately, and I'm talking about raising his average by about 45 points over the next 100 games. I'm not saying he will, but it's more than possible. Hes currently on pace for 61 rbi so getting to 90 is a heck of a long shot. And a guy who has hit no better than .222 the last 4 years is pretty unlikely to hit the .280 or whatever that would be required to raise his average 45 points. At this point in his career, I just don't think he is good enough to do that.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 11:21 PM) I'm just telling you the truth, Sir. Was never comparing the two as prospects. oh i know you werent. and i was just saying if thats all they have to offer than screw the angels

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 10:19 PM) So nobody gives a hoot if Buehrls is just up n traded? It's almost like a "Don't let the door hit yer ass on the way out" mentality floating around here. Anybody else sense this? i dont want him gone at all. he is my favorite sox pitcher of all time

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) I know a pretty decent Angels source who thinks they do want PK, and they would give up Trumbo for him. Trout? No. big difference between the two and i dont see trumbo as much of a prospect

QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) Please explain to me why some of you want to keep Alexei. I cannot stand him, his style of play, and what he "brings" to the Sox. If I was the GM, I'd be looking for upgrades at the SS position while unloading some of the vets. I wouldn't be as frustrated with AR if he was playing 2B, but that is supposedly going to be Gordon Beckham's position for his entire career with the Sox. who would you consider an upgrade over alexei?

QUOTE (southsidetony @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 09:04 PM) Tradeable assets: Paul Konerko: This is the best time to sell. The Angels are beckoning, I can see us getting Mike Trout, or at least a package containing Mark Trumbo. Rangers could be an option as well (Smoak would be great), likely a package with Chris Davis would take place. If we could get Martin Perez or Holland in a package deal (package on both sides, it could go a long way in the rebuilding process. Lastly, The Brewers could be an option. This is the least likely scenario and would involve Fielder... really just including them because of concerns over their ability to re-sign Prince, though I think Reinsdorf is even less likely to open the proverbial wallet. A.J. Pierzynski: The Rangers could be a potential destination... could be a monster trade if packaged with PK. San Fran could be possible since they are not please with Molina and not confident with Posey's defense (yet). Mark Buerhle: Cardinals would be the best send-off, but in terms of yield-of-return, I'm not certain. He can without question bring in a good package of prospects. Jenks: Frustration alone warrants the trade... this would be closer to the deadline however. Possible trade partners: Atlanta, Philly, Cleveland, Milwaukee. Thornton: It was said in another thread that Thornton has the best trade value of anyone on the team. I don't agree with that, but I could see either New York team being interested, as well as above listed teams for Jenks. Keepers: Beckham Rios Pierre (it hurts me too.) TCQ (for now) JFP Danks Hudson (promotion) I am not so sure the Angels really want PK. They may have been interested years ago but that doesn't mean they are now. Not all GMs have multi year obsessions with players like Kenny, However I am sure there is no way they are giving up Trout for him. A first round draft pick one year later who is having great success is not going anywhere for an over 30 1b who is a 4 month player. I really don't think we will get much in return for AJ. Texas is not going to trade Smoak for him and the Giants will have no interest in him again after they got burned acquiring him the last time.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) No offense to you. Just something that keeps coming up. i'm glad you said it so i didn't have to!

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 08:40 AM) 93 RBIs whilst batting a smidge over .200 would be quite a feat. Imagine if he gets his average up (even to .250) and starts cracking a few more homers. Finishing .250 with 25 HRs and 100RBIs would be respectable. imagine all you want but that is just not going to happen

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) I understand what you're saying. The pitching has been a disappointment... yes. That was not expected. But I just don't understand why we chose to accept offensive mediocrity (at best) in the first place. We have THE lowest team batting average in the American League. We're near the bottom in OBP. We're 9th in SLG. All despite the fact that everyone is healthy. The sad part is that this (to me) is not a surprise... which is what I find so frustrating about the design of this years team. You shouldn't spend $100M and expect to have a mediocre (at best) offensive team. That's just not acceptable IMO. I agree with you. I was angry in the offseason when we accepted having a mediocre offense and then people just assumed we would acquire a big bat to make the offense better. To me this is backwards thinking. Why wait 3 months to have a decent offense? I also agree that the bad offense is not a suprise. Sure some individual seasons are shockingly bad but as a whole the offense is just as bad as I thought it would be and the design was terrible. -
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) I think MB makes sense to the Mets if KW is willing to take Perez and his $12M back he could probably get a pretty good prospect back. Trading PK, Linebrink, Andruw, and Jenks does not make this team any better. Not now, not next year, and not in five years. You have to trade something of value to get something back namely Danks and Thornton. AJP will be a Type A free agent at the end of the season and if you cant get two high quality prospects back you might as well hold on to him, Flowers needs the time in AAA apparently. I dont want Oliver Perez.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) He's going through the Hoffman issue right now of not enough separation between fastball and change-up. nah, hoffman is finished. i think mark has a lot of mileage left and i hope its with us

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 01:18 PM) I think we can compete next year without Buerhrle and Garcia. Just by looking at the free agent class of pitchers i think it would only take one signing to get a rotation of Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Hudson, SP to respectability. plus it would required peavy and floyd to return to being better than average pitchers.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) You actually expected four veterans to hit THIS far below their career numbers? AJ - .604 OPS (career average .748) Alexei - .651 OPS (career average .740) Pierre - .589 OPS (career average .715) Quentin - .723 OPS (career average .827) You are right, we didn't expect these guys specifically to hit this poorly. I do think Pierre was predictable because he is not much as a hitter, and Alexei's history (albeit brief) has been that he starts slowly and heats up later. However, I think you should expect someone or sometwo to have poor seasons. Just like you can expect guys to have career seasons (Rios, Konerko). We may not know specifically who those guys are going to be, but it should be expected. The problem is that when you have starters with limited potential or who just aren't that good like we do, you limit the scope of how good the offense can be because it requires that everyone have a normal or better than normal season. Instead of 9 guys that can contribute a positive season and who can make up for guys who are having off years, we only have 6 or 7. Thus, when one of the guys we count on to be positive offensive players sucks, there is not enough good hitters to pick up the slack. Now suppose we had better players in the lineup besides Kotsay, Teahan, etc., maybe the other guys wouldn't be struggling as much due to less pressure, better lineup protection, better hitting situations... Sure thats just speculation but who knows? All that being said, the SP has been suprisingly awful. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) Didn't Paulie just get a day off a few days ago? Why again tonight? every day i get excited to watch a game and then i see omar, kotsay and jones in the lineup and i get deflated

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 02:08 AM) I'd like Flowers up here since he is suppose to be 'franchise' catcher. He actually was doing really good in April, and had a pretty awful May, not sure how this is affected by Sox brass messing with his swing. it wasnt the sox who messed with his swing -
Can we switch Kotsay and Quentin in the order now?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) Then tell Carlos to hit better than him, and tell Jones to heal back up and hit better than him. jones cant really hit either. all he does is swing for 500 ft bombs -

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) The split with the Rays and won the last two series prior to that. Come back and take 2-of-3 from the Rangers and that's 4 positive series in a row. It's June 2nd, and remember how late it was in 2003 when Kenny made those acquisitions. The Sox just need some pieces and I've seen nothing to show me that the Twins and Tigers can't fall victim to a few 3-7 stretches down the line. I mean the Twins are just 10 games over and at the start of the year people here were basically calling them juggernauts. Let's just try to win please. Except we aren't going to win with kotsay batting 5th and DH and with Omar or whatever crap is playing 3b. Not one other team in baseball would give them this many at bats -
QUOTE (iamshack @ May 27, 2010 -> 12:16 PM) Nice to see the tide starting to turn a bit around here... but if we lose...
