  1. Just watched the new Transformers. I feel like I just watched Michael Bay masturbate to his own bowel movement for 2.5 hours. Goddamnit.
  2. Good piece of hitting there. And tip of the hat to Ozzie on the call.
  3. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 10:12 AM) The Chinese lunch I had last week ended poorly. Food was great, and then I found a fly in the fried rice after I was nearly done with it. Flyed Rice I guess. That's actually on the menu, must have given you the wrong plate.
  4. Forgot about Citizen Kane. I was supposed to see that as part of a film study class in college but I already had the DVD at home so I skipped out on the lecture to just watch it from the comfort of my own couch. And then the Sox came on tv...
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 07:15 AM) f*** the cubs They are not deserving of proper noun status.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 01:24 AM) Kung Fu Panda Scarface Godfather Part II Exorcist Odd list to see that Kung Fu Panda is important enough to be listed along with Scarface and the Godfather... QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 07:51 AM) Pretty much any of the comic book movies except for the latest Batman. Same. No intention to see any of them either. I'll also throw in all 4 of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) Is it really permissible for a ballpark to turn the radar gun off for its pitchers and back on for the opponents? ? Are you talking about the radar gun inside the ballpark or something? Because the Rockies' broadcast has shown the gun for both teams.
  8. Rockies announcers: "This is officially a giant mess..." Love it.
  9. I have a feeling this is going to come back around the lineup and Paulie is going to win this one for us...
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 12:40 AM) Find a new job. Welp, that's what happens when I drink on a Wednesday night... And yes, I'm actively looking, hope to get back to a city.
  11. Figured Wednesday night is as good as any to get hammered. One of those nights that I realize "hey, wake up to do press clips at 6am daily as a opposition researcher even though we have a press shop" makes me hate working in politics. Memorial Day when I requested off a month prior? Nope, wake up at 6 on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to do the press clips for an office that will be empty for the entire f***ing weekend. Fourth of July when I get an email saying the office will be closed for 4 days, but then I get a special appendum instructing me to still do the morning press clips every day for an office THAT WILL BE CLOSED?! Entirely unrelated sidebar: anyone hiring a researcher/program assistant? Entirely related siderbar: this probably belongs in the I Am Drunk. (but where is the I Hate My Job thread?)
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 10:15 PM) I really, really hope Peavy can stay healthy after tomorrow's game. A little concerned he's taking extra precautions just so he can squeeze in one more start prior to ASB. This is definitely his call though, so we have to trust him. I know there has been a HUGE discussion on "what he says he can do" vs. "what he is physically capable of" but I do think we he should just sit a start and let the now-5-man rotation bring us to the ASB with Jake coming back fully recovered (however relative some make think that is).
  13. This is an honest (and not loaded) question: at what point do we put Rios on waivers, and does anyone bite? I have a real curiosity regarding the gamesmanship of placing a player on waivers. I've read in the past that almost everyone goes on waivers at some point but we just don't hear about it. I think I recall reading some posters on here that speculated that even players like Paulie were placed on waivers at some point, just not publicly. If that's the case, does the GM and manager let a player know they are being placed on waivers (even however unlikely they are claimed), and how does that affect how the player feels toward the team. I imagine that if Rios is placed on waivers and no one bites he would then be pretty upset with the organization, and it may further affect his hustle. Not arguing should it be done but CAN it be done?
  14. Instead of creating a new thread I figured I would bump this since it had a lot on KC. New article on Grandstand about the Royals' prospects, good read. Grantland.com A few quotes:
  15. So upset I missed the game last night (on the road for work). I hope this one plays out so we have a decisive game 3.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 07:32 AM) I'm pretty sure I've seen David Ortiz do it before. It actually kinda makes sense if you can get it down. David Ortiz has definitely done it a number of times, less of a bunt and more like "stick the bat out there in a half swing". I've wanted to see Thome and now Dunn do this for a while. And while Dunn is getting paid millions to hit home runs, it just isn't working for him now. It just makes sense to try ANYTHING to get on base at this point.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 25, 2011 -> 09:13 PM) I think it's gotten beyond angry determined boos for dunn and moved on to most people almost begging him to succeed. Hearing the crowd at the stadium on tv doesn't suggest that (but then again cubs fans cheer or boo but have no idea what is going on). What he hears is a resounding boo throughout the game; no matter how mentally strong you are (which it sounds that he is) that is going to weigh on you. Think about showing up to work or doing a personal activity you love and being told 'you suck' constantly. You can brush it off as much as you can but it sinks in eventually. And from a fan's perspective, the novelty of booing has to fade into what I'm inferring from Balta- it's getting so depressing that it is hard to even feign a boo.
  18. Let's make this interleague series win-streak legal... 18 in the NL.
  19. Thank god we don't need Dunn to score from 2nd on a basehit anymore. Just trot home now...
  20. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 10:16 PM) Wow, UVA escapes once again. South Carolina gets the first two on a strands them. Gotta think UVA makes them pay this inning now. Thank god someone else is watching this (I'm out of market for the Sox so I have them playing on the laptop). Bases loaded for UVA in the bottom of the 13th, no out. Strikeout, sharp liner to second and double up the runner to get out of the huge jam. Bah, I love baseball. Hat, fitting that UVA's closer (107 pitches) is replaced by our 36th round pick to pitch the 13th. Edit: two sac bunts, two errors by our pitcher. Walk off winner for the Gamecocks on an attempt to get the lead runner at 3rd on the bunt. Awesome game.
  21. What a game. Incredible pitching by both teams. SC's closer has now thrown 81 pitchers.... as the closer. Got out of a 1-out bases loaded jam in the top of the 12th with a GIDP.
  22. I bet Capn is the only watching this CWS semifinal besides me right now. This is an awesome game, love it. I'm cheering for the Gamecocks (got my hat before the CWS started last year, rocking it tonight). In extras right now, game has been full of some gutsy pitching, very exciting stuff.
