QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 09:40 AM) Not at all, I like the movie as well. I throw a lot of different movies from my childhood at my daughter(she is 10, 11 in September) and she usually likes the stuff I liked, we just watched "A Princess Bride" together for the first time and she was really into it. I am a big fan of anything Henson, and some of the darker Henson works like Mirrormask and The Dark Crystal are my favorites. Have you watched Imaginarium yet? Tom Waits is pretty awesome. I still cant decide if Lily Cole is hot. Her body is amazing, her face looks like a porcelain doll I have not yet watched Imaginarium, probably watch it later this week and I'll let you know what I think. Good call on The Dark Crystal, haven't seen that in a while.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 09:53 AM) If you liked Mirrormask, then you should like Imaginarium, they have similar alternate realities. My daughter loves Mirrormask, I have rented it for her a few times I honestly can't tell if that was an off-handed dig or not, and excuse me if I thought it was and I'm incorrect. I'm just a big fan of films that force me to stretch my imagination. I love movies like City of Lost Children and Pan's Labyrinth (as an easy one). Even just that quick bit in It's Kind of a Funny Story where the perspective flies through the city that the main character drew in his art class - love it. True escapism in a film.

First time we've beaten Verlander since September of '08. That one felt very good to see offensive production versus one of the best in the league to kickstart our second half. I know some people have been clamoring for losses out of the gate so make moves to prepare for next year. I, myself, like to see wins. Winning is fun. I'm not ready to pack it in for the season. Don't stop now, boys!

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 11:10 PM) This is the kind of defeatist attitude the team has with the Twins. "No matter what we do, we'll lose." Why shouldn't we play the best matchup? Just because Verlander has been amazing we should just throw a sacrificial lamb out there "because we can't beat him?" This is why we can't beat the Twins- there is a mentality about it. Like you said- Gavin is really good against the Tigers. So what you're suggesting is take a flop on the Verlander matchup so we can use Gavin on a matchup that is better for us to win? I say we put our best players out there in the matchups against there best players so we can mitigate losses and maximize wins. Drunk self-righteousness bump. Sox winnah!

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) Are you rating the music and girls' dominatrix outfits or the actual movie itself?? Everyone besides Abbie Cornish was ridiculously bad in that movie....I mean, errr, extended video game/music video. It couldn't decide if it was a male fantasy pseudo-softcore porn movie or an action adventure. It turned out to neither. Interesting visually, but the screenplay made Avatar look like Grapes of Wrath or War and Peace. I think the whole concept of the dream world was pretty neat. The music and visuals really did carry the movie as, like you said, the acting wasn't very good, but I was really just in it for the visuals anyway. Sometimes I pick out a movie just for the artistic visuals. On that, my next movie on the list is The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Has anyone seen it? Another related note: I absolutely LOVE Mirrormask. It melts my face off, highly suggest it.

I just watched Sucker Punch last night. Absolutely loved it. Anyone else? It got a 6.3 on IMDB but I think it is way underrated.

All-Star Break Prognostication Thread

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 08:22 AM) As tight as that team is? I think meth might be more accurate. And now comes the Sports Illustrated article with the rumor. -
My biggest pet peeve is when someone wears a jersey of a team that isn't even playing on the field. Worse yet is when they are wearing a jersey of a team from a different sport entirely. Dude, I don't care that you're a Raptors fan- we're at a Sox game.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:59 AM) Both of those teams make a ton of sense as well. As does KW's reply. Yep, I know we've seen the Phillies have have been looking for a RH power-hitter in the outfield for the better part of the season now.

Yeah, not going to lie- I just went and got Quiznos for the first time in 8 months because I saw an ad here (and I'm not one to cave to advertisements).

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 05:57 PM) I would love a sandwich pick next year for Jackson. Just hope Kenny does not screw it up. This is the risk going forward. We need to weigh if we can get a better player out of a trade than we can in the draft (obviously). The concern comes in with how much faith you put into our ability to draft the 'right' guy next year. It comes down to risk/reward- we might be able to get a low/medium-risk prospect or two for Jackson in a trade, or we risk another high pick that could end up being a bust. Very tough decision to make going forward, and I know I can't definitively say which is best.

The official "end of Ozzie soon?" thread

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) Chris Rongey disagrees with you. As a matter of fact, he probably thinks you're an idiot for thinking that way. As much as I like Ozzie, I, like most of the people here, agree with you. Sometimes you just need a fresh approach or a fresh voice. Ozzie seems tired and his players are probably just as tired of him too. Speaking of whom, has anyone else noticed the Ranger hasn't posted here since maybe mid-April...? -
And as long as there are no auto-play ads, no qualms here.

The Jurassic Carl? I feel like I just saw that a couple weeks ago.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) I was blown away by the overall talent level in this game. It really was well played. Saw nothing to dislike with Viciedo, as he took his same ferocious swings and definitely has a nice presence at the plate. He fought off a couple good pitches in his first AB that I liked before he went down on a poor swing outside. I don't know where else to post this- does anyone know if we have a player named to the AAA All-Star Game in Salt Lake City on the 13th? I imagine I would have seen a write-up or tweet about it by now if we did but I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen something.

QUOTE (TomPickle @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) Gavin has been really good against the Tigers in his career. White Sox vs. Twins, 1:10 CT, CSN
MiddleCoastBias replied to kageman129's topic in 2011 Season in Review
Talking to Karko's Throatskin, he has the Twins' broadcast and said their announcers just went back to replay the Rios play and had this to say - "thats terrible. I mean..just terrible. I have to show this again, I don't want any young kids playing like this. I don't like bring things like this up. But the little kids are out there...kids, please don't play like Alex Rios. Learn fundamentals. Hit the cutoff man. Make the right play." Made my day. -

Does it seem to anyone else that Dunn has backed off the plate a bit? Could be that he's realizing pitchers are working in on him and he's trying to adjust. -

Very well done. I'm loving Peavy's pace today, looks to be in control. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 11:10 AM) There are plenty of way worse signings, no matter what Dunn does. Manny Ramirez for the Dodgers and Rays comes to mind.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 10:16 AM) I was at that game also.. I was at the cubs/Cards game in St. Louis with my girlfriend that day. She took multiple photos of the out-of-town scoreboard, one of which has me with a look of disgust staring at that score.
