QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 12:01 PM) Maybe it's because I know how horrible the life is there, but I think the pictures of Pyongyang look creepy as Hell. Where are all the f***ing people?!? It seems like every picture, except for the ones of the Subways which are oddly the nicest I've ever seen, are completely desolate. I've seen pictures of highways, and monuments, and palaces, and temples, and just random streets on nice, sunny days, where there simply aren't any people. Any place in the west, such areas of town would be full of people frolicking in the sun and enjoying life. But not there (and there are 3 million people who supposedly live there). And then you've got the unfinished Ryugyong Hotel looming over the city, seemingly reminding everyone what a crappy system they live under. I don't know what you thought that city looked like, but it's sort of as I expected. North Korea is different from say, Afghanistan, where they don't pave the roads, and they can't seem to build the buildings straight, and the people look obviously dirty and poor. North Korea seemingly tries to put on a semblance of normalcy, yet fails. It's not a dangerous place as far as I know. In fact, follow the rules and you're sure to be OK. It's more just an extreme version of Big Brother/1984. And try not to blue falcon (lostfan will know what this means) your obligatory guide. The Vice Guide did a great documentary on the two guys getting a 'tour' of North Korea. Vice Guide to North Korea Probably the best 'behind the scenes' view of North Korea I've seen. They are effectively in what the Jurassic Park theme park (in the movie) was supposed to be- they're "in the wild" but really just being shown things that the North Koreans want them to see. The bit towards the end about them driving down the highway and stopping at the rest stop was crazy. Definitely worth watching.

Guillen/KW at least "PR spinning" they want Buehrle back nex
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 08:29 AM) Bring him back until he doesn't want to come back... you can do worse for a 3rd/4th starter. So true. I don't want to be in a position where we sit there and say "great, the back of the rotation is a sure loss".

7/19 GT: Sox @ Royals, 7:10pm
I'll be heading out to this one tonight, making the 5 hour round-trip to catch the boys play. (I decided not to go to the game last night with Buehrle on the clock.) First time at Kauffman, should be exciting. $36 for third row behind the Sox dugout, nice. Let's get it done, Peavy!

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 09:46 PM) Oh, forgot Santos can't get the save here. This is just weird. Why take the save away from Matt? And then have Santos face a lefty? The Royals' announcers were just trying to explain this. What's the case, why is there no save awarded?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 07:57 PM) Does anyone hate the ATT U Verse multiview as much as me? Yo. "We're going to shrink down the view you actually want to see and then show you the hitting coach of the team that's in the field." Way too much dead space, too.

I actually get this game on the Royals broadcast! Too bad their announcers are a freaking bore; it sounds like their calling a round of golf.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 09:40 AM) Not at all, I like the movie as well. I throw a lot of different movies from my childhood at my daughter(she is 10, 11 in September) and she usually likes the stuff I liked, we just watched "A Princess Bride" together for the first time and she was really into it. I am a big fan of anything Henson, and some of the darker Henson works like Mirrormask and The Dark Crystal are my favorites. Have you watched Imaginarium yet? Tom Waits is pretty awesome. I still cant decide if Lily Cole is hot. Her body is amazing, her face looks like a porcelain doll I have not yet watched Imaginarium, probably watch it later this week and I'll let you know what I think. Good call on The Dark Crystal, haven't seen that in a while.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 09:53 AM) If you liked Mirrormask, then you should like Imaginarium, they have similar alternate realities. My daughter loves Mirrormask, I have rented it for her a few times I honestly can't tell if that was an off-handed dig or not, and excuse me if I thought it was and I'm incorrect. I'm just a big fan of films that force me to stretch my imagination. I love movies like City of Lost Children and Pan's Labyrinth (as an easy one). Even just that quick bit in It's Kind of a Funny Story where the perspective flies through the city that the main character drew in his art class - love it. True escapism in a film.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
First time we've beaten Verlander since September of '08. That one felt very good to see offensive production versus one of the best in the league to kickstart our second half. I know some people have been clamoring for losses out of the gate so make moves to prepare for next year. I, myself, like to see wins. Winning is fun. I'm not ready to pack it in for the season. Don't stop now, boys!

QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 11:10 PM) This is the kind of defeatist attitude the team has with the Twins. "No matter what we do, we'll lose." Why shouldn't we play the best matchup? Just because Verlander has been amazing we should just throw a sacrificial lamb out there "because we can't beat him?" This is why we can't beat the Twins- there is a mentality about it. Like you said- Gavin is really good against the Tigers. So what you're suggesting is take a flop on the Verlander matchup so we can use Gavin on a matchup that is better for us to win? I say we put our best players out there in the matchups against there best players so we can mitigate losses and maximize wins. Drunk self-righteousness bump. Sox winnah!

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) Are you rating the music and girls' dominatrix outfits or the actual movie itself?? Everyone besides Abbie Cornish was ridiculously bad in that movie....I mean, errr, extended video game/music video. It couldn't decide if it was a male fantasy pseudo-softcore porn movie or an action adventure. It turned out to neither. Interesting visually, but the screenplay made Avatar look like Grapes of Wrath or War and Peace. I think the whole concept of the dream world was pretty neat. The music and visuals really did carry the movie as, like you said, the acting wasn't very good, but I was really just in it for the visuals anyway. Sometimes I pick out a movie just for the artistic visuals. On that, my next movie on the list is The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Has anyone seen it? Another related note: I absolutely LOVE Mirrormask. It melts my face off, highly suggest it.

Pet Peeves
My biggest pet peeve is when someone wears a jersey of a team that isn't even playing on the field. Worse yet is when they are wearing a jersey of a team from a different sport entirely. Dude, I don't care that you're a Raptors fan- we're at a Sox game.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 09:59 AM) Both of those teams make a ton of sense as well. As does KW's reply. Yep, I know we've seen the Phillies have have been looking for a RH power-hitter in the outfield for the better part of the season now.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 05:57 PM) I would love a sandwich pick next year for Jackson. Just hope Kenny does not screw it up. This is the risk going forward. We need to weigh if we can get a better player out of a trade than we can in the draft (obviously). The concern comes in with how much faith you put into our ability to draft the 'right' guy next year. It comes down to risk/reward- we might be able to get a low/medium-risk prospect or two for Jackson in a trade, or we risk another high pick that could end up being a bust. Very tough decision to make going forward, and I know I can't definitively say which is best.
