i am drunk
I have an affinity for drunk eBay and I feel the need to let everyone know that I just bought a signed Brent Morel bat for $40. WORTH IT. Related drunk Sox purchases: Mike MacDougal jersey for $9, 3 Sox hats ('52, '83, and moder-era with the shamrock). There was an "authentic" knockoff Adam Dunn black jersey for $25 but even drunk-me knew that was a garbage purchase. Yep, coming from the guy that bought a Mike MacDougal jersey, I couldn't bring myself to buy a joke Dunn jersey.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 18, 2011 -> 05:36 PM) The Tribune's Michael Phillips came out with his best and worst movies of the year. For some reason Sucker Punch was his pick for worst. I thought Sucker Punch was pretty good. Visually appealing with a different style. Not sure how anyone could think it was that bad. I opined on Sucker Puynch in this thread a few months back, thought it was very entertaining. I watched it again a couple weeks ago and it had definitely lost its appeal for me. It was fun the first time around but watching it again definitely exposed its flaws; I now see why many people thought it was bad.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) f*** that. I thought the same thing when I graduated a few years ago and now I'm about one hour away from completing the last paper of my first semester (admittedly I would be done a lot sooner if I stopped reading Soxtalk but where's the fun in that).

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 12:36 PM) I actually find myself paying with my debit card even when I have enough cash, just to avoid getting pennies. ===== Eliminating pennies and dollar bills is a good start, but I'd go further. Eliminate dimes, half-dollars, ten dollar bills, and fifty dollar bills. All the currency you need are nickels, quarters, dollar coins, fives, twenties, and hundreds. Though unnecessary, I would keep the $2 bill around to appease the people who hate coins so much. Also may want to consider putting the $500 bill back into circulation due to inflation. But think of the strippers!

Some early projection of Sox line-up/stats
146 home runs out of the starting nine seems pretty low, doesn't it? I feel like the estimates for Morel, Beckham, and De Aza are a bit conservative. Also note they have Lillibridge with more HR/AB than anyone else on the team again.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 04:20 PM) Chicago has yet to have measurable snowfall this season. This makes it, already, among the 10 latest years for first real snow. The latest ever is December 16th. There is currently no significant snowfall in the 10 day forecast. We might set a record. It snowed in Boston on Halloween and hasn't gotten close since. It has been in the 60s all week. Hell, Arkansas has had snow twice already.

They mentioned that the Os would have been in on him as well but didn't know he was available. Um, if we're going to flip him, shouldn't we let it be known he was available to get the best possible offer?

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 02:34 PM) If this Thornton to braves thing happens, I hope Quentin is in a package deal to actually get something good back. That was my first thought when seeing the Cowley tweet as well. If memory serves, Q was mentioned for guys like Brandon Beachy, correct? I would assume (hope) a package of Thornton and Quentin would be able to get a solid return and tap into that pool of strong SPs Atlanta has been apparently garnering.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) I'm not saying that Thunderbolt is doing this, but defending a guy's good character is the last possible way to defend a crappy player in any argument. See: Mark Teahen.

Will Gordo rebound in '12?
QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 3, 2011 -> 12:28 AM) I think he's going to have a helluva year. I think he had issues with Ozzie from day 1....OG didn't like some rookie coming in and stealing attention from the "face of the franchise". Walker obviously was unable to coach Gordon. I think having a different hitting coach and an intelligent and level-headed manager will do wonders for Gordon's confidence. What we saw in '09 wasn't a mirage...he looked like a very impressive hitter...that didn't just disappear. I tend to agree with this (optimistically). I think Robin will come in and have a positive effect on him, sit him down and help him through his issues. After all, many have talked about Robin's famous drought to begin his career at the plate and how Gordo had an analogous situation- who better to get Gordo on the right track than the guy with a proven track record?

I saw Harold and Kumar in 3D last night. Pretty entertaining, pretty much exactly what i expected - gratuitous nudity, coke, NPH being awesome, ridiculousness. I was concerned they were going to be obnoxious with the 3D schtick throughout the movie but it's only over the top for the first few minutes. I think my favorite joke (that apparently went over the heads of everyone in the theater) . Overall, it was as-advertised, though I don't think it was worth the $16 for a 3D movie (especially on a Tuesday night).

Podcasts
QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 13, 2011 -> 07:52 AM) I only listen to a couple but one thing that frustrates me is not being able to fast forward or rewind while using my iPod. Are there better programs for listening to podcasts? Either for an iPad or Android phone? And, to keep this all things podcast, what podcasts are y'all listening to? I usually will download two NPR shows, Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me and Cartalk. What is Wait, Wait, Don't Tell me about? My podcasts are NPR's This American Life and the Adam Corolla Show. And for fans of This American Life, there was apparently a show made out of it (lasted two seasons) and is definitely worth checking out if you can find it.

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 10:15 AM) Having a boss you love could be motivation enough for someone to go another place. It happens all of the time. I buy that argument, though I think that would have made more sense had Ozzie left a couple years ago. Mark keeps hinting at about being done in a year or two, and relocating to Miami for a only a short time doesn't seem to fit with his plan (said not knowing what's actually going on in his head). And is it safe to say that 'Mark to the Nats' shouldn't have legs?

Buehrle Signs with Marlins | 4 yrs $58 mil
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) Miami is kind of the opposite of the type of area Mark has appeared to want to live in though That was my thinking. What in his previous discussions about his future suggests he would want to up and move to Miami? Just months ago we were talking about how he may retire early to live out a quiet life with his family on their country property, and now the discussion is how the move to Miami would extend his career? I don't see how this makes sense from is perspective, aside from playing for Ozzie, and I just don't think that point is strong enough for him to make the move, no matter the price offered.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) Not at all. Your friend is full of s***. The only thing that was even remotely creepy was the fog that'd envelop the place on occasion. It's on a hill, so that was very Silent Hill-y. I was lucky enough to see it a few times in the fog, looks really neat. I had no idea it was even an asylum before, it looked so nice. And then I stumble upon this a couple days ago, shocker. I haven't seen it yet but I'm definitely checking it out this week.

Has anyone seen/heard of this movie Session 9 from a few years back? I was looking around and some horror movie lists and it popped up as one of the top 5 scariest. I watched a preview of it and was stunned to see that I just stayed the weekend at that insane asylum a couple weeks ago. Apparently it's filmed at the old asylum in Danvers, MA just outside of Boston; it's since been converted into luxury apartments/condos. The movie itself looks super creepy and I think it would be doubly so knowing that I've already walked around the premises.
