  1. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 07:30 PM) I saw someone tweet about how it is just a non-stop action thriller where it's just constant battles for the entirety of the movie. The action start 4 minutes in. It ends 2 minutes before the credits.
  2. Just got out of THE RAID: REDEMPTION... wow. Just... WOW. Unbelievable action movie. I know I posted a trailer to this movie months back as it was highlighted at the Toronto Film Fest, and the movie did not disappoint. It's by the same director as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon so just imagine that with guns, knives, and fists packed into the narrow hallways of an apartment building. The action scenes are the best I've ever seen. Take the best scene in the Bourne series (the one that comes to mind for me is the one in the 3rd story apartment when Jason stabs the guy with the pen, etc. and then he jumps out of the window) and extend it 30x. It was so intense that I was legitimately left breathless at a few points; I can't count how many times I heard someone murmur "holy s***!" or "whoa...". That being said, it's one of the most violent films I can think of so it isn't for everyone; two young couples got up and left 12 minutes in. Highly recommend. I might even see this one again in theaters, that excited.
  3. Beckham made the poll, really? I mean I'm still holding out hope that he'll finally show up but face off the franchise? No dice. Now, hair of the franchise is a different story.
  4. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 08:59 PM) I think it would be fun if Lillibridge could play all nine positions in a game. Only if the Sox were out of contention and the game didn't mean anything. Or if the Sox had such a huge lead in the Central that the game didn't mean anything.
  5. Kind of surprised Darvish isn't going on Sunday for the first Sunday Night Baseball game of the year on ESPN. More surprised that ESPN hasn't tried to flex their nuts and MAKE Texas start Darvish for Sunday Night Baseball.
  6. QUOTE (lord chas @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 06:22 PM) Looking to buy my first big boy suit for job interviews/weddings. Any advice on what to look for or avoid? First suit? I would go with a deep charcoal gray, side vent, 2-button. Charcoal is flexible in many situations and 2-button will never go out of style. Single- or side-vent is really up to you (single-vent is pretty normal).
  7. QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 04:55 PM) Haven't watched many ST games this year, but when I did, I was somewhat impressed by Johnson. Although, by just looking at the stats, I understand why Escobar was chosen before him (batting .471) and having a backup IF is better than a backup 1B. Seems we have a number of players that can play first (to varying levels) with Dunn, Viciedo, and super-sub Lillibridge so a backup IF makes the most sense.
  8. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 27, 2012 -> 04:48 PM) I plan on winning the Mega Millions tonight. What's everybody want? Jorge Soler.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 10:19 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,7564974.story It's like deja vu every year with Peavy. I swear the same story has been written the past three seasons. Going out on a limb here by saying I don't even need to click on the link to know that he's saying he feels upset about what he's done, owes the Sox more, wants to be the guy, feels strong and ready to go, and ready to prove himself.
  10. Celebrating my first St. Patrick's in Boston, promises to be a bloodbath.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 15, 2012 -> 08:30 PM) He's been doing it for a while now...there's some reason I heard, and has nothing to do with the Illini. Hmm, I hadn't heard that. Well either way, at least we know what he'll look like next year
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 15, 2012 -> 08:26 PM) It's going to suck rooting against Shaka next year when he's coaching the Illini. Great coach I'm sure everyone noticed that he was wearing an orange and blue tie on a blue shirt today. The man could not have been unaware of what he was doing.
  13. Totally getting ready for the "Shaka Shocks the Shockers" headlines... (fake a Boston accent and it sounds even more ridiculous).
  14. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 11, 2012 -> 09:38 PM) Just spent 4 days in the land of the sun watching these guys. Was there every morning for the start of practice and I have to say, having been to 3 of Ozzie's ST, and this is only my opinion, but Robin and his crew are running a tighter ship. Hell, Mark Parent alone is a huge difference. That guy is freaking awesome and totally in charge. I've never seen the coaches giving so much one-on-one attention/advice to everyone one from PK on down. Watched Parent working with Flowers on his transfer this morning for a solid 20 minutes. And since today was a road game and most sox fans didn't come out for the practice, players were happy to chat up some fans. Konerko says he's excited and I quote "We're definitely going to surprise some people this season." FWIW *schwing*
  15. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 12, 2012 -> 09:13 AM) Man, movies have been severely lacking for what seems like forever. I haven't even had the inclination to see a movie in the theater since GWTDT. Two hours ago I had no idea which movie you were referring to. I then just finished the book an hour later and went to send a friend a text to tell him to read it. Didn't want to spell the whole thing out so I went with the initials. Next thought was "you cheeky bastard... you had it all along".
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 08:20 PM) Merk What's the news on Stults? Strengths/weaknesses/chances? I can honestly say I've never heard that name.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 04:55 PM) John Carter is apparently awful. The extended previews look so much like Star Wars: Episode II. The whole "in a coliseum of death with an alien race cheering against you" thing seemed to be directly lifted.
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 05:16 PM) I've been known to drink too much while watching the Bulls/Bears/Sox/Illini and been too lazy to walk upstairs. So i'll use the utility sink in my basement. Never a real bathroom sink though. I'm also a routine pisser in the shower. Holy... Substitute Hawks for Bears and this would have been my post verbatim.
  19. Portillo's, Jimmy John's, and Potbelly. Never knew how much I loved those three until I can't have them anymore. And may I just say, I don't want to see Five Guys anywhere near this list. It's a trashcake chain; you only like it because people WANT you to like it. Sit down and actually eat one of those burgers and you'll realize that it isn't nearly as delicious as people claim it is, especially for the price.
  20. MLB Network was doing a countdown of the top 100 players in baseball yesterday (it may have been a rerun but it was new to me). They did a little breakout session to discuss who they thought would have a big bounce-back year. In that discussion, Harold Reynolds predicted Adam Dunn to have 40 HRs this year.
  21. I love Nick Swisher at #36 on that list from 2008....
  22. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 3, 2012 -> 05:22 PM) ? I'll go ahead and say with all certainty that they are. I mean, unless it's a bottle a roofies, I don't know what you could buy that could get you back together with someone that doesn't want to be with you.
  23. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 06:14 PM) I figured Frank would kinda be a unanimous, no-brainier amongst all Sox fans. Hell, he's the reason I'm a White Sox fan. I'm with a lot of other poster, apparently. For some reason, Frank was never my favorite; I loved having him, just never fawned over him. Durham BlackJack Paulie Honorable mention: Griffey. He has always been my favorite player of all time. I don't care if he didn't do much for us (though he did his part in 163), I will die happy knowing that Ken Griffey Jr. graced our outfield for a minute.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 11:23 PM) First semi-surprise, Clooney loses to the French dude from THE ARTIST. Wonder if we'll still remember: the Actor in a Leading Role, Jean Dujardin Director, Michel Hazanavicius five years from now? Not to assume that you were saying they were undeserving but I'm going to play devil's advocate here... Relate this back to baseball and the Gold Glove awards. Think of how many years there have been amazingly deserving candidates for a GG but they get beaten out because of the name-game candidates like Jeter and Hunter. Now bring it back to these lesser-to-unknown candidate winners of the Oscars: while we as casual observers may say the "Jeter" of the acting field should have won, the true advocates probably feel very happy that these lesser-known people got their due recognition. The question of "wonder if we'll still remember ... in five years" is again pertinent in the GG discussion; while we (as baseball fans) know who DID win, we still talk about how SHOULD have won, and that's equally true in the entertainment world.
  25. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 03:56 AM) <!--quoteo(post=2552825:date=Feb 25, 2012 -> 06:03 PM:name=Balta1701)-->QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 25, 2012 -> 06:03 PM) <!--quotec-->Your browser does not support iframes. There's something very unique about how Dunn goes about things. I kinda get the sense there are two ways to look at this: 1) He's extremely confident in what he's done throughout the course of his career, what he knows is tried and true, and something was very wrong behind the scenes in 2011 that attributed to a lot of his failures. OR 2) He's just extremely lazy, doesn't really care, and is just going to go out there and do his own thing, no matter what. I think Dunn either has another crap season in 2012 or he comes out and has a monster, prime-Adam Dunn season. I just can't see anything in the middle happening. We know he has insane power. We know the guy can draw walks like none other. And we know he's also going to strike out a ton. Hopefully he can just get his mind right and go out there and do what we brought him in to do. Maybe less pressure (due to lower team expectations) will help. Remember the good old days? Your browser does not support iframes. "All Adam has to do is touch 'em, he is that strong." - Stone. ....sigh Here's hoping it's a turnaround season for the big guy.
