QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) Mason Robbins gets the cycle. That's the second Dash hitter to have one in 6 days. Prior to that, the Dash say it was 2,900 days since the last one. He was drafted as a shortstop, and he was... not good there. I have a funny story about that from sitting at a game next to a scout once. He was then moved to 3B, and wasn't good there either. Then the outfield. Now first base. He's a guy without a defensive home, which is a problem. If he can be competent in the OF at least, he's got some intrigue as a prospect. At first base, not sure there is anything there. I knew he had....defensive limitations. Looks like he has played every game this year at DH or 1B which isn't ideal. But Sox have a current opening at DH so....

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) Lassiter another pair of hits. He's still reached base in every game he's played (though one game it was via FC to avoid a DP). He really should move up soon. Basto is hitting the world in A+. Also needs to move up at some point. I was feeling sheepish because I thought I didn't rank Lassiter but I doubled checked and he's in there lol. Great to see Basto hitting this well. He is only 22 and was taken in the 5th round so he has the pedigree. Where has he been playing defensively?

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 09:26 AM) Brian Clark with 2.1 IP, 6K, 0BB, 0R. He's very interesting to me. 2015 at A+: 8.6 K/9, 3.84 BB/9, 67% groundballs 2016 at AA: 9 K/9, 0.69 BB/9, 51% groundballs He's not starting (although he has done) but he's doing about 2 innings each time out with Birmingham. I haven't heard how it looks this season, but I know last year he was working on his change-up as a third offering to his fastball-slider combo. The effectiveness of that pitch will dictate if he starts.

Good matchup as E. Johnson takes on top prospect Daniel Norris.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 10:50 AM) That's one of those funny things about seeing guys in person only once or twice. They can sometimes be doing something unusual. I saw nothing but FB, CB, CH when I video'd him. You can see it on the channel. No sliders. Then he told you he wasn't throwing the change much later in the year. I think the Sox tinker with guys occasionally and ask them to not throw a certain pitch for an outing or two to force them to use others. Similar to the way they made Rodon not throw sliders one start in Winston-Salem I believe.
-
I also should mention Cooper does throw four pitches, FB, curve, slider, and a CH. He told me back in August he doesn't throw the CH much while relieving and the Sox could of seen something they like with it.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 09:16 AM) More on Cooper in his profile, if you want to read it (some video links in there too). I was one of the people "on him", but even I didn't anticipate seeing him become a starter. My guess is, this is the reliever-working-as-starter to get innings thing, more than anything else. But that is ONLY my guess, I don't know that. If I see him when I go down there in June, I'll ask him. Something to note, Cooper was exclusively a starter in college at the University of Hawaii and was converted by the Sox to be a reliever when he began his pro career. I agree with Matt's guess that he is just getting consistent innings, but just food for thought.

If Hickman bursts onto the scene this year, the Sox would have a fairly nice stockpile of young starters. Adams (19), Guerrero (21), Stephens (23), Danish (21), Fulmer (22), Clark (22), and Solorzano (19) just to name a few of the better ones.

Lots of good stuff in there. Hahn definitely says all the right things you would want to hear from the leader of your organization. As a FutureSox writer, glad to see the plan is to keep Anderson at AAA for the whole year as I believe he will need the development time.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 29, 2016 -> 04:24 PM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 2m2 minutes ago Team Abreu topped Team Frazier 5-4 at White Sox camp today. OF Daniel Fields hit a three-run, game-winning homer in B5 off Colin Kleven. Ah, I see our big off-season outfielder acquisition is already paying dividends.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) Bad news for Carlos Sanchez. Here's your back-up infielder. I would be surprised...Sanchez can play more positions and MUCH better.

Well I'd say that would rule out Desmond. There is your Saladino insurance and your Tim Anderson mentor.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) Robin Leyer is 95-97, T98 with the fastball. Tanner Mendonca hits upper 90's but I think they slowed him down when they re-tooled him. Daniel Webb was there, but again was a slow-down project of sorts. New signee Josh Wall has hit 100 and was often upper 90's, but that was earlier in his career and I have no idea if he's there now. Then there are a bunch of guys more mid-90's. I knew you would jump in NorthSide . That is a great point that many relievers have the ability to throw upper 90's but with detriment to their command. It may be likely that the White Sox re-tool him and he instead will become a 95-97 type guy. My point is you can't teach velocity and reining a guy like Kahnle has some exciting possibilities than aren't available to most other pitchers.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 10:25 AM) Mr. Cleto says hi. There are actually a ton of relievers now consistently hitting 96-98...not nearly so rare as a decade ago. Command is the caveat of course. If Kahnle had good command to go along with his velocity there is no way we would of gotten him for a low level prospect. The White Sox must of saw something in his mechanics that they felt OK about potentially fixing. Off the top of my head, we have four pitchers in the entire organization that can consistently sit upper 90's. Kahnle, Cleto, Nate Jones, and I saw Brad Goldberg hitting 98 and 99 when I scouted him in August. That was new for Goldberg and a pretty exciting development for his status as a prospect.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 09:58 AM) He's 28 so regular free agent. He will be when he is cleared by MLB. I haven't seen an update saying he has officially been cleared, but I assume since he has a showcase tomorrow it should happen soon.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Feb 21, 2016 -> 03:39 PM) Orioles have fowler on radar as is known but are looking at a variety of players, including pedro alvarez https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/701517661369294848 Well that doesn't sound like a sure thing...

Yadiel Hernandez's showcase is tomorrow. I am really interested to see if the Sox will be in attendance.

QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 02:17 AM) i don't mean to jump in here, but for me, the signing is to reinforce the idea of making a trade in the future with a pen pitchers being included in a pkg or maybe insurance for the pen. Either via trade or just depth for inevitable injuries/under performance, it is always a smart idea to have as many live arms you can. If you look at our options if something happens to our incumbent LOOGY's Jenning/Duke, the Lamb trade makes a lot of sense. As for Kahnle, there just isn't that many humans who can hit the upper 90's consistently. Coop will fix em'

QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 07:46 AM) Getting married this July--but we're not going to do a full/big honeymoon until summer 2017. Neither of us are beach people at all and are more into cultural sights...we've narrowed it down to two options: Quebec or the Pacific Northwest. Any thoughts? Obviously not your typical honeymoon destination so anyone who's travelled there in general would be appreciated. We're also looking at just doing a couple of days to get away for a "mini-moon" this summer. We were thinking of Galena, or Lake Geneva...something not too far away from Northern IL. Any other suggestions there? Galena is really nice but very touristy. Lodging I would recommend Eagle Ridge Resort, which is about 10 minutes outside of Galena and quieter and much more scenic. Eagle Ridge has a spa, hiking trails, balloon rides, a pool etc etc. There also is a ski resort close by called Chesnut that does summer activities as well, segway tours, riverboat cruises, and zip lining to name a few. However, the main attraction is the downtown main street of Galena itself, as it has a wonderful selection of shops and restaurants where you can easily spend a day just exploring. A couple places I would highly recommend is Blaum Brothers Distillery (free tour and tasting), Galena Brewing Company, Fritz and Frites, and the Log Cabin.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) This whole "used as leverage" thing I think is weak rationalizing. If we knew the sox truly offered more, then they were used as leverage. If we were just offering "deals" that were comparable or less than what they received, than they chose us because we didn't offer the best deal, not because we were used. If Sox offered 3/90 for Cespedes, he would have signed here. If we offered 4/90 for Gordon (what we all thought he'd get pre-offseason), you'd have Gordon in LF. But just because they went back to their teams does not mean that their FA was an illusion like Lebron to MIA. Do you believe Gordon or Cespedes would of signed with the Sox if they would of matched the respective offers they accepted from their incumbent clubs?
