  1. I'm still playing the single-player mode. I've never been a fan of online mode. I tried GTA a couple of times, did a little hacking with WatchDogs and went on the original RDR online like once. I prefer to explore and experience the game by myself. Although I do have moments where I wish someone else was in the room with me while I'm playing RDR2 so I could say to them "What the hell was that?" Like the time I had a grizzly bear and a cougar attack me at the same damn time. Shot the bear, got jumped by the cougar from behind. Or the time I robbed a store, got a wanted level, jumped on my horse to get away from the 5 lawmen chasing me, then almost fell off a cliff because I ran smack into another damn grizzly. Still having a blast playing the game though. I'm only on chapter 3 because I've spent most of my time either hunting, doing all the side missions or completing the challenges. I have almost all the crafted outfits in the game. Although I've realized that some of them I can't get until the end of the game.
  2. I've heard that legally, they are allowed to say yes or no to the question "Would you hire this person again?"
  3. There really hasn't been much information so far in this thread. So I don't know why that would stop us now.
  4. The past few nights I've been watching 'Valley of the Boom' on Nat Geo. It's a "docudrama" which is something I've never heard of. It's sort of a cross between a documentary where they are interviewing the real people in front of a camera but then they also have scenes where they have actors playing these real people. It sort of reminds me of those crime shows or 'True Stories of the ER' where they have a re-enactment of certain scenes. Then only difference is that during the scenes, they break the 4th wall and talk directly to the viewer a lot. It's set in the 1990's when the internet was first being introduced to the masses and the browser wars were taking place between Netscape, AOL and Microsoft. They reference a lot of websites that I've never even heard of like theglobe.com (which was apparently Facebook before Facebook) and sfgirl.com (which was apparently a blog before anyone knew what that word was). It's interesting but I'm not sure I like the format. It's sometimes difficult to remember which actor is playing which real person.
  5. I got all the DVD sets and watched them all a couple of years ago. It's so much different watching the show now as an adult compared to watching it when I was a kid. First off, I never really realized how whiny Kevin was. Maybe I'm mis-remembering my own teen years but it seemed like every time he was in a situation where he actually had to work hard at something (a job, a chore, a school project, a sport) he did nothing but whine and complain about it. We think kids today are entitled but apparently its something that happens in pretty much every generation. Another thing I noticed was how often he would jump in his car and simply take off somewhere else. Like the time he was supposed to go to work but instead drove up to "the lake" that was apparently a few hours away. Or the time he was supposed to go to the store for some fasteners to help his dad fix the gutters but instead took his friend to see his old girlfriend in a town 100 miles away. I guess that was more of a thing back in the 70's. Kids were allowed to pretty much do what they want and there were no cell phones or anything to keep a leash on them. I also never realized how one-sided the Kevin/Winnie relationship was. He was completely infatuated with her (except for the numerous times he would hit on some other girl although he always went back to Winnie) but for the most part she was cold and distant with him. There were times where she said that she cared about him but in never seemed to show in her body language. Not sure if that was how the character was written or if it just came across that way in her acting. She was also really quick to get pissed and leave him at the drop of the hat. She never had a problem finding another guy to hang on either. I'd almost be interested to see the show from her POV. I remember being upset that they didn't end up together as adults but after watching it again, it makes sense that they didn't. I was sad to see it go off the air when it did and missed it when I couldn't watch it anymore but looking back, it's probably good that it ended when it did. It probably could've gone on another year or two if they wanted but the story lines were starting to get a little lame and repetitive. Probably better that it ended a year too soon rather than a year too late like Rosanne did.
  6. I'm not sure which one is worse. This or Shaq doing commercials for The General insurance. As well as that horrible movie he made way back when.
  7. I say we make it anyway. Just for general, everyday venting, ranting and punching.
  8. Holy crap I thought you were kidding until I actually checked.
  9. WSI is damn near a graveyard compared to what it once was. Many of the OG mods and posters (that weren't banned) haven't been around in years.
  10. Yea, bowling doesn't get much recognition, as evidenced by this thread. Here's a recent article about the team who are looking for a 3-peat as state and national champs. The girl pictured is the one that shot the 847. https://www.rrstar.com/sports/20181207/harlem-girls-have-hopes-of-bowling-three-peat
  11. One of my daughter's teammates just set a new Illinois state record for a 3-game series for HS girls with an 847 series (267, 290, 290). Previous record was 826. EDIT: That's the new national record.
  12. I flipped on SportsCenter last night because I didn't see the game but knew that they had won and just wanted to see a few highlights. Instead I saw the highlights for the Pats/Steelers, the highlights for the Lakers game, a few more basketball highlights and I think a hockey game was in there. Never even mentioned the Bears game at all. Maybe it's because we all see how the Sox are ignored by the national media and it seems like the same thing happens when it comes to the Bears as well? Although I'm not really a huge Bears fan or really a big football fan in general so I can't say I notice it as much...
  13. The counter-point to this argument is that these guys only get to do their job for 20 years at best. Many for a lot less than that. And a majority of them aren't getting 100 or 200 or 300 million dollar contracts. The average salary for an MLB player is "only" 4 million. But the average career span is only 5.6 years... So these guys have to take what they can get, when they can get it.
  14. Except the Sox where that would only bring the payroll up to around 60 million or so. They'd still have a ton of money to make more moves.
  15. I know of one site that has all the Chicago teams on it, including a Cubs board. Not sure what the rules are in regards to posting links to other sites though.

    2018 catch-all

    This actually explains a lot.
  17. Not necessarily. I spent about 15 years as a mainframe programmer using mostly Cobol and PL/1. Now I'm in a job where I'm using mostly Vb.net and SQL, although I didn't have much experience with either when I first started. Now we are switching to a system where I'm going to have to learn some C#. There are some things that are different, but once you have the basics down, most programming languages are pretty similair. I once took a free online class to learn Python and picked it up pretty quickly.

  19. I bought the DVD when it came out and haven't even opened it yet. I was kinda the same way with Rogue One. Never really in much of a hurry to watch it. Now with the Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, I watched them as soon as I was able to. I really wanted to get to the theaters to see them but never did. I'm not sure if it's because the other movies aren't part of the "main" story or what. I've never really gotten into any of the expanded universe (books, comics, TV shows, etc...) either.
  20. Our adult/youth league ended a couple of weeks ago. I think I ended up with a 199 or 200 average. I'd have to look it up again. We ended up middle of the pack, which is pretty good since we were bowling scratch. The averages of the bowlers in the top 5 teams were all 200+. Now HS bowling has started up again. Had tryouts the last 2 days and first practice is tomorrow. First tournament is the Friday after Thanksgiving. Our girls have a lot to live up to being the back to back state and national champs. Although I guess the publicity is good since they had 19 girls trying out for the team this year. That's the most I've seen since my daughter has been part of the program. Some of the other schools can barely get half that number to try out for their teams.
