  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 01:43 AM) I'd be all for trading 2-3 of our lefties and bringing Mark back. Or like I said make Danks a lefty reliever. Teams with four lefty starters DO NOT win pennants. Neither do teams that trade away guys like Sale, Quintana and Rodon for Mark Buehrle.
  2. As far as tips go, I don't mind them. I just wish they would get rid of the automatic gratuity BS. I've been burned on that twice at two separate places and haven't been back to either one since then.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 01:51 AM) Maybe it's because I grew up upper middle class with my dad paying for my college and me always having enough money to keep my wallet full (knock on wood and thanks mom and dad) but I've never understood why many people are "cheap." If you are cheap, tell us about it. How cheap are you? Has your significant other called you on it ever? I've always tipped excessively and been so polite to people who wait on the public. It stems from when I worked as a kid at a concession stand and cooked hot dogs and sold beer, pop, candy, chips and heard all the public's unwarranted, unfounded complaints. Made so mad I told myself I'd never be a rude customer. One time, one asshole who came into my concession stand at the golf course every Sunday and b****ed about the prices and how my hot dogs weren't hot enough (at f***ing 7 a.m. when I just opened the store) left his wallet. I put the wallet under my counter. We didn't have a phone up there in my stand on the 9th hole and I couldn't leave it. So about 3 hours later this asshole comes driving up with the golf course owner and says, "I left my wallet up here and I bet you found it." I said, "Yes I did, here it is." The bastard counted his money and said, "It's all here," and left without even thanking me much less giving me a tip. The public can be ASSHOLES. Be kind to your server. Tip tip tip!!! Life is too short to be cheap. Spend your money, don't hoard your money. Workers at places like fast-food, gas stations, grocery stores and retail stores all have to deal with those same assholes. But they don't get tips no matter how good of a job they do. Retail cashiers usually get it the worst. They get the brunt of the customer's frustrations and are typically powerless to do anything about it. "Why are the lines so long?" "Why wasn't this product in stock?" "Why isn't that item ringing up at the correct price?"
  4. I had a horrible week last week. Didn't hit my average even once and made it go down a pin. Thankfully we were bowling the vacant team so we still won all 3 games plus series. Last night I had two good games with a crap game in the middle. 241, 149, 221. I hit the pocket in the last 5 frames of the second game and got: a pocket 7-10, solid 10, solid 10, strike, solid 10. Again though, we won all 4 and are solidly in first place. I got the pin back in my average so it's up to 189.
  5. I think it was actually announced months ago. Just not "officially".
  6. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 01:10 PM) I recall that one baseball movie with Freddie Prinze Jr and the girl that killed herself mentions "The Big Hurt" Frank Thomas at some point...I don't' even remember the name of the movie, though...and I'm too lazy to go to IMDB to find it. Summer Catch?
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 6, 2015 -> 02:55 PM) I guess I was thinking about what I'd do. I'd take a ton of lessons on how to use my gun (or gub as Woody Allen said in that hilarious movie Take the Money and Run) and if I saw the guy wield his knife at me, I'd try to shoot him in the butt or leg. Just me. Likely you'd do what the cops (who are actually trained) *DID* do which was kill the guy.
  8. Just got an email from the boss. Premiums and coverage will remain the same. I've only been here one year but apparently this is the 5th year in a row they haven't changed. It's under $130 per pay period for medical, dental and vision.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 03:25 PM) How many of them are dead? Only the suspect who was fatally shot by the police.
  10. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 11:58 AM) I bowl in a league that has 50 teams, broken down into 3 divisions based on team averages from last year. My team is in the middle division; our first trimester ended last week, and we finished in 5th place in our division. 3 of our regular bowlers have a lower average this year compared to last year (including myself) so we have room for growth. I've been thinking of picking up the Mongoose Optimum wrist support to see if it can help my game. I've read reviews online, but does anyone here have any feedback on it? That looks like a basic brace that keeps your wrist locked into one position. I wear a brace that is fully adjustable. Been using it for probably 20 years now. The very first year I used it my average went up by about 20 pins. I can't find a pic of it (I'm not even sure they sell it anymore) but it looks sort of like this: My daughter and most of the girls on her school bowling team wear the Brunswick PowrKoil Adjustable Bowling Wrist Support. (You'll have to google it) It's definitely helped her get a little more lift on the ball. It's just a matter of controlling the hook now. Although she does complain that her index finger gets squished under the brace when she throws her ball.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 3, 2015 -> 10:18 AM) Eh, star wars wiki says it has been broken. Im not really gonna argue anymore, if Snoke ends up being Jar Jar Binks, i dont think that is a masterful writing stroke by Lucas as much as it is an insult by JJ Abrams. Leave that crap behind It may have been broken in the books. But since Disney took over, they are no longer considered canon. There's also a theory out there that Luke actually DID turn to the dark side in the original trilogy.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 06:43 PM) That rule has already been cast aside, Maul, Palpatine and Dooku already existed at once in the prequels No, Dooku didn't become Palpatine's apprentice until Darth Maul was dead.
  13. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 02:40 PM) We already have experts forecasting the end of the 2016 season? No.
  14. Did anyone else see the last 2 lines of the article? I read that as if the Sox decide to fire Robin mid-season, they can still offer Sandy the job.
  15. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 2, 2015 -> 08:00 AM) I hate how odds/projections come out and are taken seriously on the first day of the offseason, or even beforehand. A lot can change over the next couple months for all teams. I hate that Vegas odds are taken seriously at all considering they are based on what stupid people are betting on instead of any kind of statistical team/player analysis.
  16. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) Ever just lose your line in the middle of a game? More times that I care to admit. Had a decent night last night. Shot a six-thirty (something) series. Missed an easy spare in the 10th frame of the 3rd game though. Ended up with a 200 exactly in that game. Should've been more like 220. I got my average up to 189, we are in first by 5 games and I currently have the high scratch series in the league at 687. So I'm happy.
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) So if you commit a crime, no matter how small. Shoplifting or selling cigarettes. You should be able to be killed? Said no one ever.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 28, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) Police have been present in schools for decades—particularly in low-income communities of color—but some experts also tie their increased presence to the rise in school shootings. After Columbine, the Department of Justice invested $876 million to fund the presence of nearly 7,000 school resource officers like Fields (S. Carolina officer accused of brutality and racism in dealing with black female student in classroom). During the 2013–2014 school year, there were more than 82,000 officers working in public schools. yahoo.com This is funny because there was an armed guard at Columbine the day the shootings happened. He just happened to go off-campus for lunch that day.

QUOTE (MEANS @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 03:21 PM) We'll all find in a week. Or two if they keeping alternating focus on the two groups like they have been so far...
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 27, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) As a Sox fan, and a Cubs hater, I believe I owe the Mets my rooting interest. Sweeping the Cubs not only knocked the Cubs out this season, but may have an effect in the future. Since the LCS went to best of 7, no team ever swept made the playoffs the next season. Do you mean no team ever swept in the LCS? Because I know the Cubs got swept in 08 and 09.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 24, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) The double negative police out in full force. But if you could not care less, by definition, you can/could only care more than you already do. It's not a double negative. He's also right. The proper term is couldn't care less. It literally means you could not care any less than you do right now.
