QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2012 -> 06:52 PM) Maybe the Sox will take Stroman because they might need him in September. He would likely do just fine too. (Out of the bullpen obviously.)

JIM BOWDEN @JimBowdenESPNxm According to source the Houston Astros are expected to select Stanford RHP Mark Appel with the first over all selection in tomorrows draft. Reply Retweet Favorite I'd much rather have Buxton or Correa.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) Any chance Roache is still available at pick #48? #13 is way too high for him but getting him at #48 would be very nice. I'm honestly not sure. It all depends on his medicals I would imagine. It's possible he falls to 48, but I'd wager he goes late 1st or very early supplemental.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 11:44 AM) At this point, I don't see us spending that much on a position that we don't really need now and actually have a few prospects in. Huh? Because the Sox have Jared Mitchell & Keenyn Walker who are not even close to sure things, they shouldn't consider a talent who would be a top 5 pick in this year's draft class? If the Sox aren't interested it's because of the prohibitive cost, not they have a few prospects. Besides Soler is at least 3 years away. He will likely begin his career in Low-A ball.

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jun 2, 2012 -> 08:21 AM) Is this the same "Georgia kid" who was hurt in the last year that some sites had the Sox linked too? If so his stock must have really risen. No. Byron Buxton not Victor Roache. And there were never really any concrete links to Roache. Just one or two super early draft projections with no sourced information.

Sickels posted his 2012 Draft Top 100: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2012/6/1/30...couting-reports Correa has some late helium for sure.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 07:45 PM) I still think Roache is going to make a team in the late first round/early supplemental pick very happy It's certainly possible. I just couldn't pull the trigger on him at 13 after an injured season.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 07:24 PM) I agree, I'd have no problem with the Clemson 3rd baseman. I think other than Zunino, (who clearly won't be available at 13) Shaffer is the only college bat that I'd be in favor of as a 1st round pick. Pretty terrible college position player crop this season.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) Piscotty from Stanford is supposed to also be a first round pick. I'd much rather have Shaffer than Piscotty. Not big on Piscotty at all.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 06:27 PM) I keep going back to what the pitchers in the Sox rotation look like. They are all tall. Indeed they are. I don't expect them to take Stroman, just offering my opinion on him.

Baseball America has the Sox on Wacha with their 3rd mock draft. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/...v3-0-list-only/

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=17223 I still love Stroman. Some of the best stuff in the draft class. Already has two plus pitches. If he wasn't 5' 9'' he'd be in the mix for number 1 pick in the draft. There is obviously some risk that he ends up in the pen, but he has much better upside as a starter than some of the 2nd tier of college pitching that should be available around 13. Though I perfectly understand if the Sox want a safer option considering the state of the farm.

Erik Johnson seems to be in Kanny.

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ May 30, 2012 -> 01:12 PM) Keith Law Updated 2.0 Draft Having the Sox take Smoral. Like the upside on this pick-Big Lefty Want. Keeping my fingers crossed. He probably would be going much higher if it weren't for the foot injury. Could end up being a steal wherever he goes.

Baseball America's Top 500 Draft Propects

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ May 28, 2012 -> 06:52 AM) Any Erik Johnson news update? Haven't really heard anything on our wonderful 2nd round draft pick that was supposed to move through our system quickly. Shoulder issues right? Elbow I believe. Tommy John might be in his future (though probably not immediately) from what I've heard.

Wait for regression and trade off some pieces if the offers are there.

Jim Callis @jimcallisBA Could still go either way. Hearing both. @professorfog: #WhiteSox moved on to college pitching vs the prep players at this point? #mlbdraft Reply Retweet Favorite

QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ May 26, 2012 -> 07:01 AM) The only player I keep on hearing that the Sox are possibly going to take that I don't want them to draft is Michael Wacha. He has the smallest upside of all the pitchers they are rumored to be drafting: I perfer Straton, Stroman, Smora in that order. I'm not sold on Wacha either. I'd be fine with any of Heaney, Stratton, Smoral, or Stroman though.

Baseball America's Mock Draft 2.0

Mayo's 2nd mock: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...ticle_32149024 Sox interested in Stratton, Heaney, & Wacha as I previously guessed. I'm more in favor of Heaney and Stratton than Wacha though.

Thread is great. Hawk is f***ing awful. He makes my ears bleed. I will throw a party the day he's finally gone.

Chatting with a Scout about the 2012 Draft: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2012/5/18/3...-baseball-draft Interesting stuff. Particuarly on Stratton, Heaney, and Wacha who very easily could be White Sox draft picks.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 17, 2012 -> 10:21 PM) I do still like what Rangel Ravelo is doing with the bat at age 20. No power to speak of yet though. I think I may go see if I can hit up that Scouting the Sally guy, see if there are any reports about his D. From what I've heard, his future is likely at 1B.
