  1. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 08:04 PM) I do think he will wait that long. He sees how loyal JR is and the resources the Sox have. He has pull out/turned down other opportunities in the past. He is biding his time because he knows KW's tenure as GM is about over. I've sort of wondered if Kenny is just being kept on to merely clean up his own mess. To allow Hahn have a decent position to start out with. Let Hahn eventually take over with a clean slate after Peavy/Rios/Dunn are gone, and hopefully he'll have a semblance of a farm system to play around with at that point too. If so, one would hope he's had great say in the current moves being made to "rebuild."
  2. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 07:40 PM) He will be the GM by 2015. I hope sooner than that.
  3. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 08:01 PM) Look at it this way, the 2012 No. 1 pick in the entire country Gerrit Cole signed an $8 million contract. Concepcion's deal is also $8M with incentives. That is insane. IN-SANE. I was going to point this out last night, but I fell asleep. Concepcion isn't even considered a Top 100 prospect by most. Yet he's going to receive a bonus equivalent to the number 1 pick in the country last year? All while Cole has a ceiling of a staff anchor ace, and Concepcion might not even sniff a middle of the rotation upside? More perspective, he's receiving more than 4 times the amount we paid to sign Chris Sale. No thanks.
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 01:00 PM) How many clutch homers? I only heard of one, but looking back at his stats I see he had some decent power numbers with Oakland in 05-06-07. Not a great average hitter, but he might battle for the starting 1B slot at Charlotte. Yep. I'd also wager Jim Gallagher is more likely to see a call-up before Dan Johnson. This is a Charlotte fodder move, as been said.
  5. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 09:27 PM) Reportedly, Kinsler was with him too which makes it even worse. jonmorosi Jon Morosi Gerry Fraley reporting Ian Kinsler was at the bar in an apparent attempt to persuade Josh Hamilton to return home. 47 seconds ago Favorite Retweet Reply

  7. BenBadler Ben Badler International scouts not sure how Concepcion could command $7MM. Finesse lefty, lots of 86-90 on the gun lately. 2 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply
  8. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 07:16 PM) Ugh, this sucks. The time when they probably actually want to spend money on these guys the market goes nuts to get ahead of the new CBA. FANTASTIC. f***. When you have Concepcion who isn't nearly on the level of Soler and Cespedes getting $7M and a major league deal, I'm afraid s*** is going to get silly for the other two.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 07:08 PM) I have no problem at all with the Sox missing out these three Cuban players. Their price tags are going to be way too high. Kevin_Goldstein Kevin Goldstein Looks like it. More silliness. RT @nymets945: @Kevin_Goldstein is concepcion major league deal? 5 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply

  11. QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 06:07 PM) I have a feeling we'll snatch him up Meh. Give me Soler.
  12. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 05:59 PM) Per MLB Trade Rumors, Cubs got Conception... Darn. I bet Cespedes is next for them.
  13. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 09:06 AM) No doubt The Sox have a significant offer in place for Cespedes, have pursued others aggresively and they have a great reputation within the Cuban community. I'd still rather them try and sign Soler as a first priority. He won't be signing as soon as Cespedes or Concepcion. He's a classic tools-heavy MLB RF that would instantly top most teams position player prospect list. I really hope Cespedes gets blown away by another team's offer and the Sox reallocate some of that money towards Soler. I like Cespedes, but he really seems to be the best fit for a team that's going to compete immediately. The Cubs make little sense too. The Marlins are probably the best fit. Or the Tigers if they are still on the periphery.

  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 08:08 AM) Is he a free agent yet? No.
  16. With a Concepcion signing, a decent return if Gavin is traded, and the 13th pick in June I could start to feel a bit better about the farm. Hopefully it's ready to churn out some MLB players or trade chips in the next few seasons. I'd like to see some young cost controlled talent to join players like Sale, Dayan, and Reed around the time Dunn and Rios are gone.
  17. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 11:43 PM) Cespedes- Cubs Soler - Red Sox Concepcion - White Sox I'm okay with that. The White Sox need anything they can get that resembles depth, both pitching and position players. I'm sure KG isn't as high on Concepcion as others due to him being a polished "pitchability" guy. Kevin loves his tools and upside. That's his M.O., and that's fine. Even if Concepcion's ceiling is that of a 3 or 4, it's still better than the majority of the pitching in the system currently. Sign him.
  18. Kevin_Goldstein Kevin Goldstein Doing all the Yoenis work in the last 48 hours, I talked to a lot of people about Gerardo Concepion. 8 minutes ago Kevin_Goldstein Kevin Goldstein General thought on Concepcion is the same. Highly polished for his age w/ advanced control and secondaries, but not blow away stuff. 8 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply Kevin_Goldstein Kevin Goldstein Many teams in on Concepcion; don't have great feel for the market. Not Top 100 guy. 6 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply Kevin_Goldstein Kevin Goldstein Could move quickly for a teenager, but STILL A TEENAGER. 19. Pretty damn excited for baseball. No matter the team. I'll be attending many more Sox games when I move to the city next month.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 10:03 AM) How in God's name can the Tigers afford Cespedes as well after signing Fielder? Is Little Caesar's Pizza taking off in profitability in the last 2-3 years? Ilitch is old and wants to win. He spends more of his own money than any other owner. They haven't made a profit in like ten years supposedly.
  21. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 08:24 AM) I'd still be willing to bet that Cherington would rather just give Edwin the deal he wants, than give Kenny a package of prospects. That's the thing, they can't give Edwin the deal he wants it seems. It would push them over the luxury tax threshold.

  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 12:49 AM) Getting Soler and Concepcion would give us another B+ prospect and an A+ prospect. I say do it. Concepcion doesn't seem to be nearly that touted from what I can tell. Soler on the other hand could be very good. A+ is a huge stretch though. For reference, Sickels has Bryce Harper as a straight "A."
  24. QUOTE (pktmotion @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 12:07 AM) If indeed Oswalt heads to St. Louis and the Red Sox start getting anxious to trade for Gavin. What are the realistic expectations? Do the Red Sox have decent enough prospects? are they overhyped? If we're working on a position of leverage, I'd like KW to pull a fast one on a rookie gm. The Red Sox are starting to get desperate. It's hard to put realistic expectations on a trade return. We don't know how each team values certain players or prospects. Kenny also works his own way and it's hard to predict what he will do. You know he loves his reclamation Coop can fix 'em players. If I had to guess I'd say a fair return would be two "B" prospects, or a higher end "B" prospect and some "C+" pieces along with it. Kenny might have more leverage here than normal with the Red Sox kind of f***ed by the luxury tax threshold. Some players to consider would be Anthony Ranaudo, Brandon Workman, Brandon Jacobs, and Bryce Brentz. I doubt the Red Sox would move Middlebrooks, Lavarnway, or Bogaerts. Some lesser pieces could be Felix Doubront, Stolmy Pimentel, Drake Britton, and Christian Vasquez.
