  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 15, 2011 -> 06:45 PM) The Score today made it sound like Matt Thornton is one of Cowley's sources He is. Has been for a while.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 15, 2011 -> 10:41 AM) That's a fantastic deal for the Twins. They are also getting 3 much needed draft picks by letting Cuddyer and Kubel walk. The Twins are in a bad place. Bad major league club, and a bad farm system on top of it.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) I took that and his replies to others as he wasnt happy about that comment. Indeed. I thought maybe you knew personally that Gordon was really pissed about it or something. Carry on.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 14, 2011 -> 03:50 PM) Cowley called out Beckham for being a headcase on twitter last night and Gordo was not happy about it. I though't he just said "We'll see." At least that's what I saw. gordonbeckham Gordon Beckham @cst_Cowley:Beckham can be a standout player. I just don't know if that can happen with the Sox. He's too in his own head. WE WILL SEE JOE 22 hours ago Favorite Retweet Reply gordonbeckham Gordon Beckham “@BWBdaBRONCO: Beckham why are you givin a RT to sum1 who's saying you can't excel....CAUSE IM GOING TO PROVE HIM WRONG! boom 21 hours ago Favorite Retweet Reply
  5. The White Sox still need to pare payroll, not add to it.
  6. QUOTE (Andrew @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 11:42 PM) So... Cowley writes another piece to line the cat litter box with. Thanks? This time there are actually direct quotes from Danks supporting some of these accusations though.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) FWIW, that rumor came from Jay Cowley, and no one else. I'm aware, but Mark Gonzales' comment at the end of the article seems to extend directly from such a rumor. I'll reach out to him and get his opinion in a bit.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 10:07 AM) Seems pretty obvious to me that was either referring to ALL the underachievers - Dunn, Rios, Peavy, Beckham... or possibly only the uninjured ones, meaning that group minus Peavy. Either way, I don't see how you can possibly see that as being a knock on Peavy specifically. Given your apparent hatred, I'd suspect it was just wishful thinking. Last off-season Peavy directly stated that if the Sox intended to rebuild, he would prefer to be traded as he went through that in San Diego. Fast forward to this year's winter meetings. An "anonymous" veteran player once again states that if the Sox are going to rebuild, he wants to be traded. AJ, PK, and Thornton have come out and said they want to stay. From there, the list narrows considerably. I'm not the only one with said guess. Jim Margalus has posted such as well.
  9. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 05:26 PM) & is he better now? And is he major league ready. The guy I see picthed at A ball He's fine, and no not major league ready.
  10. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) FWIW, KW is talking to TEX about Sheppers and Loux. I like both.
  11. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 08:47 AM) Will everyone be happy if Kenny did land this Betances guy for John Danks? How good is Betances? I'm starting to waffle. The more I read, and the more opinions I get, there seems to be a good consensus that he ends up a reliever. Likely a high-leverage type reliever, but that really isn't what the Sox need a this point. If he was the only player going the Sox way in said deal, I don't think I'd like it.
  12. Anyone catch the shot at Peavy in Gonzales' recent Tribune piece discussing the marketing efforts? http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,1788782.story Awesome. Oh how I despise you Jake Peavy.
  13. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 11:26 AM) That's true, but one would think that if he's traded to the Yankees now and ends up having a season he's capable of, the Yankees would probably pay him. Other teams, I wouldn't be as confident of him staying there. The Yankees would also be in a position to gain compensation even if he leaves. As long as he's traded for before the season starts and they make him a qualifying offer at the end of the year.
  14. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 10:31 AM) I'll take the stud catcher (or 1B/DH). Betances should be the only prospect KW can hold off on a bit. Yanks probably would then send Romine as a throw in or something. His mechanics scare me (not to mention he's already had surgery on his arm). Good potential none-the-less. I wouldn't mind Banuelos either though. Banuelos and Montero are indeed better prospects. Though I'm one of the many that doesn't see Montero sticking at C. With Betances, he has issues with mechanics and repeating his delivery. Not surprising for a man his size. He also needs to improve his changeup and sort out his control issues if he wants to continue starting. Many think he profiles better as a reliever. I wouldn't dislike KW acquiring him, but he's not my first choice. Coop could potentially work his magic though.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 09:02 AM) I'd take any of those guys straight up for Danks. In a heartbeat. Though I'd much prefer Banuelos.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) You really want the Sox to suck. If Lillibridge has any value, I'd trade him. He'll fall back to earth. Reports at the winter meetings had Lillibridge as one of the most sought after players the Sox have, believe it or not.
  17. Richard Griffin Further to @Jon_Heyman re Quentin & Jays. AA & KennyW discussed fits for Quentin, Danks, Beckham & Santos. Settled on Santos ... for now. 1 hour ago via web Favorite Retweet Reply
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) Crazy. The White Sox have no talent to give up in exchange for a guy who is arb-eligible for the first time this year. No kidding. It makes no sense to trade for Gio if they club is indeed rebuilding. Even if they do have enough to trade, the package starts with Sale, Dayan, and Reed. These players don't match up with Oakland's time table either, as they want prospects that will be just about ready for when they get their new stadium.
  19. Jon_Heyman Jon Heyman #chisox had something working w/ bluejays for quentin but it appears to be cool now. seeking other suitors. 1 minute ago Favorite Retweet Reply
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) Want to be a little more specific? JR: It's rebuilding/retooling, however people want to spin it. Just trying to placate the fans that will stamp their feet and pout about not kind of being competitive the next few years.
  21. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 10, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) That'd be awesome. And let's not pretend that the Rays got to where they are simply by losing and getting awesome picks. They devoted a lot of resources to finding and developing talent. I'm sure we're going to be hearing a lot about the Royals, Pirates, and Orioles for some time. I'll just have to get used to that. They're the epitome of failure, so they're the stock argument. I'm looking forward to the rebuild. It's long overdue and time to try a different approach. I eagerly await all the moaning from the posters who had stated with 100% confidence that a rebuild will never happen with the White Sox. Seems to finally be a reality. Let's also note that this didn't have to be if Kenny/Jerry and the organization changed with the times. The growing importance in amateur talent, scouting, and providing from within has been evident over the years, yet the GM and owner treat the draft and the farm system as an afterthought. It's finally caught up them. Time to get back to basics, and if it hurts for a while, so be it.
  22. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 9, 2011 -> 11:42 PM) Think the A's are willing to deal Cahill and Gio? Yep. Good chance Gio is gone too.
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) Exactly what I was thinking. It's one thing to lose Wilson. But to lose him to your main competition? Oh, and Pujols. That makes things a tad bit more uncomfortable for them. Go back to them with Danks as your main bait. Don't settle for ANYTHING less than Martin Perez. I'd love to see Kenny bring back some Texas prospects, but one wonders if the Rangers now go all out on Darvish.
  24. Will be interesting to see how he does. He is the epitome of a Twins pitcher. Good luck Terry.
