QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 08:00 PM) In my mind, to hell with that. We're 100 games in and we're below .500. Yeah, anything can happen in the playoffs. I get that. But if we somehow do get there, the chances of us getting to the World Series are extremely remote. At some point this franchise has to legitimately look at long-term success. Not selling out every year in a futile attempt to win this crappy division. Because obviously it hasn't worked. I'm in favor of long-term success over an at best 50% chance of winning a s***ty division. This. I'm praying for some pieces to be sold off.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 11:30 PM) Why would they waste any of their limited resources in bringing in someone to play that position when they have one of the highest ranked prospects at the position ready to contribute? From the sound of it, they're going to get another outfielder in next week and possibly another starter. This man gets it.

FutureSox Mid-Season Top 25 Prospects List Posted

For clarity's sake: Derisory: Laughably small or inadequate; derisive; laughable; ridiculous -
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 08:01 PM) Smith needs to be pushed to A-Ball. He is way too good for Rookie Ball. Way too good. EDIT: Smith goes deep AGAIN. Promote this man. A college senior need not be destroying rookie ball.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) I don't know much about Sabermetrics, but even I know you don't live and die by scouting info this day and age. Did you just completely ignore what I wrote? I'll make it more simple...pitchers like throwing to him, he calls a good game. I have watched him play a lot and I haven't been overly concerned about what I saw. I certainly read what you wrote. I just don't put much stock in it. Generalized statements such as "pitchers like throwing to him" do not negate his defensive faults.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 10:58 AM) If they want a righty reliever they should really just give Infante or Reed a shot at it This.
-
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 01:35 AM) No he's not. He did well from what I saw of him. The only concern would be passed balls, but that's easy to work on. The pitchers seem to like his game calling. I haven't heard many scouts that think Phegley will be able to remain at catcher. His defense has been the knock since drafted. Though of course it doesn't really matter if he continues to not hit.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 10:52 PM) Only a few games, but Phegley holding his own in AAA so far. My AAP Remenowsky putting up unusual numbers for him. 1:1 K:BB ratio, striking out less than a guy an inning... but, hitters aren't hitting him either. I wonder if they have him working on something that is changing his approach, or if the hitters are that different, or what. I wish Phegley was actually a decent catcher. By all accounts he's pretty awful behind the plate.

Marmol on the bloc, should the Sox be calling?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 06:09 PM) I think the team is trying to forget he ever existed. He will be in Charlotte on a rehab assignment in the immediate future. -
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 03:40 PM) I hope they start fielding calls for Ramirez. Sell high before being stuck with another bad contract. wat
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 15, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) Tyler Kuhn helium watch over. I don't think the organization views him that highly. I'm still not sold.
-
Sounds like another AL Central top prospect to get the call soon.

I'll be pretty disappointed if they don't sign Gardeck. One of my favorite selections.

Complete White Sox draft and signings list

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 14, 2011 -> 04:14 PM) So that means we went over slot on 2 of our top 3 picks... Nice Very slightly, but yes. I'll be more impressed if they sign some of the prep players they took later on. Especially Freese. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 12:50 PM) They are shopping more than Edwin...... Go on.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 11, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) At this point I'd take a 4th OF. He currently ranks as a type B free agent and anyone who trades for him will assuredly offer him arbitration. He should bring back something that is at least moderately interesting.
-
QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 10, 2011 -> 08:44 PM) Jared Mitchell...so far for July... .359/.468/.718/1.186 18Ks in 39 ABs. I hope something clicks and he can cut the K's, as striking out at such a clip isn't going to allow him any sort of success.
-
QUOTE (bobryansson @ Jul 8, 2011 -> 10:00 PM) Hawk! Shut up about the 4th out! Yes, it could/should have bee turned, but he's fast! It was Floyd's batting practice pitching that gave up the 6 runs! And, oh yes, the home run given up to a nobody hitter. Hawk somehow makes unbearable White Sox baseball even worse. He's such an embarrassment.

I would try to take advantage of the Red's need for some consistent pitching. Dangle Danks and try to acquire Grandal as the Red's have catching depth. Mesoraco is near MLB ready and ahead on the depth chart. The Sox desperately need a legit catching prospect and I hate AJ Pierzynski with a passion.

Not a big loss.

Gregor at the Herald posted an article suggesting that the Sox could acquire Teheran or Arodys for Quentin. Pretty hilarious. Sox beat writers are such a clueless bunch.
