QUOTE (Sox-35th @ May 28, 2017 -> 10:05 AM) I'm not sure exactly how it works, but just looking at the raw numbers, it looks like Dominican Republic income tax is 25% and US income tax for him would be closer to 42%. Just speculating. What does that have to do with where he plays baseball or tiddlywinks or anything else. If they pay him over there, he probably gets taxed over there, at least to some extant. He is a 19 year old super jock, turning 20 in August, and he hasn't played baseball all year. Or has he? At least get him down to AZ. Get him into some competitive atmosphere where he can play the game.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 28, 2017 -> 04:22 PM) Renteria had Robertson warmed up when he brought in Beck. I don't understand not just bringing him into the game as long as he was warm instead of waiting for trouble. Especially considering their best hitters were coming up. They wanted to get the Save for Robertson. If they bring him in too early, no Save. Plus he wanted to give some quality work for Beck.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ May 27, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) Apparently, that allows the bonus to be tax sheltered. Has there been an explanation of the tax ruling, other than the one sentence above?

QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ May 26, 2017 -> 07:15 PM) It would be nice to see Collins hitting for a higher average, but man, it's tough for me to worry about him when he still has an OBP near .400. Shows how good High A ball is compared to college.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 25, 2017 -> 09:24 PM) Zavala must like those game winning situations. Game winning hit a couple days ago. He just put Kanny up 1 with a homer in the top of the 10th. now hitting in the .250's after slow start.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2017 -> 06:50 PM) Counter-Counter point. The Red Sox weren't offering Moncada for Sale at the deadline, and did in the off season. Possibly because of all those strikeouts in September. (Moncada, not Sale)

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 25, 2017 -> 12:39 AM) Oldsox, seriously? Not you.

QUOTE (balfanman @ May 24, 2017 -> 07:19 PM) This is true of the left, not the right. I do not want to go political here, but I do not appreciate this comment in these forums. I don't post often, but I read these forums most everyday. Uninformed comments like this tick me off and have no place here. I come here for Sox discussion, not politics. Mods are exempt

QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2017 -> 08:25 PM) He was drafted before that start and the wind was at 4 mph. I think you are correct on that. Nice catch. I was just kidding on the "wind" comment.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2017 -> 06:41 PM) 4 homers allowed by Fulmer. His season stats went mediocre quickly. Stuff has just deteriorated from college. Sox signed Fulmer partly because of a great playoff start -- his last college start. Maybe the wind was blowing out tonight.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2017 -> 03:58 PM) Daz sucks....hell no to that deal Don't think they will part with Tucker. Replace Daz with someone else?

So we essentially traded Katz for approx $750k. in a vacuum, is that a good deal?

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 23, 2017 -> 08:33 AM) He would exceed what Robert just got by a lot That blows my mind.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 23, 2017 -> 06:20 AM) Looking at Sox international pool for the 2016/2017 Period, they were close to spending it all. They started with $2,973,500. Traded for $756,300. That gives them a total of $3,729,500. They signed Josue Guerrero ($1.1), Mieses ($428K), Comas ($425K), Carabello ($350K), and Sosa ($325K) and 20 players total. They are probably close to $1 million under their pool. If Luis Robert gets $27 million, then the Sox pax taxes on $26 million of it for a total of $53 million. Jeff Passan told Spiegel and Parkins that NL teams were telling him on Saturday that Sox were trying to trade for international bonus slots. It'll be interesting to see if they can get more and lessen the tax load. They have until June 15th to do so. Let me get this straight, JImmy. You're saying Sox have signed 20 international guys in 2016-17?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 21, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) Strasburg pitched today. Scherzer pitched yesterday and only went 5 because of a 2 hour rain delay You're right, Ky. The Seattle announcer on the baseball package said Scherzer was pulled. Tks.
-
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ May 21, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) Especially for someone that isn't an uber prospect like Moncada, I agree. as the Correct. Super 2 importance rises with higher rated prospects like Bryant, Moncada.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 21, 2017 -> 06:03 AM) It looked like Avi was starting to get back to the Avi we have known a couple of weeks ago, but he has picked it up again. At what point is this real? Or is it still the mirage it has been in the past? 40 games and he has numbers Frank Thomas in his prime would be thrilled with. Fangraphs has stopped their bashing, nowhave gone radio silent about him. Could Hawk have been right? he really has been incredible this year. I was at the game early Saturday and when Gene Honda was going through the line up, Avi received the loudest applause. Not bad for a guy who the team obviously held out of Soxfest because he was booed there a year earlier. I still have trouble with that one -- booing him at SoxFest.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 20, 2017 -> 10:45 PM) Mariners Mike Cameron was a fantastic player. We traded him for PK.

Matt Albers is the glue holding the Washington bullpen together.

May 20th Game Thread: White Sox @Seattle Mariners
oldsox replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2017 Season in Review
Just got in. Have Sox announcers said anything about the Robert signing? -
QUOTE (SouthSide2004 @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:21 PM) This is an absolutely terrible way to look at this. The Sale deal has nothing to do with this signing. Would not be surprised if Moncada helped recruit Robert.
