  1. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 30, 2017 -> 02:47 PM) With the cushion of 9.5 games in the nl east the nats do not have to rush a move. They certainly will need to upgrade the bullpen via trade by the deadline though. Their mindset is why buy now when there might be more options in a month? Dusty cant take too many more 9th inning blown saves.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) He is getting paid $14M this year........if you claim him, you're responsible for the pro-rated portion, or a little over $7M. I'd much rather Jerry eat money in trades for better prospects than claiming Montero. Partially true. IF, I sad IF any team wanted Montero but did not want to pay $7 million left on contract, they could work out a deal with Cubs. Obviously, it's not gonna happen here, nor should it.
  3. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 10:08 PM) ruptured right patella tendon for fowler, if you can believe it I actually ruptured BOTH mine at the same time. That's an awful injury, way worse than ACL, I knew it when he did it, same mechanism as mine. Usually tho you're 30 lbs overweight and in your 30s and male and a weekend warrior when you do it though, not a 20 something pro athlete. FWIW I am 100% back 2.75 years in. Maybe a bit slower cutting on the tennis court and I don't play basketball anymore, but I hike (with weight loss and smarter weight training) and do everything I used to just as well. That said, it's great he's having surgery tonight, the sooner you do the repair the sooner you get back and the less scar tissue you deal with. He'll be back. He'll get PRT as well. Victur Cruz, Jimmy Graham also had the injury and Richards on the Angels. Cruz struggled to return, Graham and Richards have done well coming back. Chitown, how did you do both patellas at same time? How long was rehab?
  4. QUOTE (Anderdale @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 12:06 PM) Interesting to me that he was chosen to play in the futures game. Has to be solely because of his defense. Maybe there are very few catching prospects.
  5. How much are top prospects likely to get July 2nd?
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 01:49 PM) 14 million? He's thrown out zero runners all year. What a bizarre business is baseball. How did a player this bad get a contract paying him 14 million bucks? It's all ridiculous, folks. It's just money. I hope Jerry throws it away. Sign the guy. I'm very very pissed that myfavorite team is done before July again. This organization blows. Spend spend spend, Jerry. sign him. Thank goodness we won one title in 05 cause we're not winning another until Jerry and his posse sell and we start over. MARK CUBAN save us please. Because agents are smarter than GM's.
  7. Cheer up. It's not as bad as being in a North Korean concentration camp. Every year there are six teams in last place.
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 07:45 PM) What I'm not seeing with Hanson is the ceiling to justify the kinds of rankings he was getting as a MiLBer with non-great production. The over hype D.R. players syndrome?
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 06:02 PM) Brewers just lost Chase Anderson to an oblique injury. Too bad they aren't all-in And the cubs lost Bryant for a while.
  10. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 04:30 PM) I thought I read the sox will keep him in the dsl the rest of their season but...would sure like to see Robert take a crack at Kanny or WS, if only for a few weeks at the end if the year. Ditto.
  11. Speaking of Frazier, the three guys we traded for him are sure struggling. Frank Montas injured severely and somewhere in the Oakland system; Trayce Thompson, injured, but still has decent future; and Micah Johnson, buried somewhere as a non prospect.
  12. I wish everyone would quit talking about how his defense is sooo good. Fact is, he is not hitting at all, and statistically is getting worse. If he does not improve, next year at this time he will be in the "Bust" category, along with a few too many other first rounders.
  13. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ May 20, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) The guy had a herniated disk last year, right? I don't think those things just "go away." They can with surgery. One guy who came back from it is that real good shortstop who played for Braves and Dodgers ( can't place his name). Todd Helton came back and played a few more years. Both had their back problems in 2009.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 01:45 AM) This is exactly what they should be doing. The Reds acquired Brandon Phillips for Jeff Stevens, who was traded to the Cubs for Mark DeRosa, who was later traded for Chris Perez (Mark DeRose, not Jeff Stevens). This is essentially useless trivia, because Brandon Phillips, the dude who averaged almost 3.5 WAR per season for his first 7 seasons with the Reds, was traded for a nothing prospect. Alen Hanson was acquired for NOTHING*. Willy Garcia was acquired for NOTHING*. Rymer Liriano was acquired for NOTHING*. Cody Asche was acquired for NOTHING*. This is what rebuilding organizations do. You take chances on players, and if they suck, you discard them, and if a s***ty team discards a player, chances are no one else is going to be like "oh, well he was a top 100 prospect 3 years ago." Literally, the Sox are not giving up a "nothing" prospect, because sometimes a "nothing" prospect turns into Chris Devenski, a prospect the White Sox traded to the Astros for Brett Myers. That "nothing" prospect turns into one of the most unique bullpen weapons in the game. They aren't giving up nothing. This is not an attack on you caulfield, this is just an open rant because I have the day off tomorrow and I am HAPPY that the White Sox won a game today. *no players, but I'm sure there are waiver fees applied. Also, Cody Asche is GOD, all hail Cody Asche Nice catch on Devenski. Saw him in a game recently and knew the name was familiar, but I could not place him. Now I remember. Another good move by Kenny. Brett Myers, who was famous for his "Retard" comments, moved on to Cleveland for half a dozen games, then retired.
  15. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 10:50 AM) Gave it a 6. Still lingering concerns on the position player side preventing a higher rating. We need to continue building through trades and more importantly the draft. Hit on some of our top picks. Hasn't happened yet. TA is the closest.
  16. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 25, 2017 -> 01:26 AM) I have a friend there too (Alex?), and he said the same thing about Lopez when I asked about his start. Said he got no calls. Umps are getting worse it seems, but none are as bad as the CWS ump yesterday in the OSU/LSU game.
  17. I predict this will be a very long thread in 3 months.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) AZL starts tonight also Too hot for outside baseball down there.
  19. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 01:43 PM) The Shields trade really is/was a major indictment on the Sox pro scouting staff. That's also without getting into Tatis Jr blowing up (on prospect lists at least) immediately after the trade. The media has been very kind to Hahn on this trade. In many MLB cities, he would have been roasted by the Press. Certainly in Denver.
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) God that Shields trade is a disaster. I hope to god they cut him after this year assuming things don't magically improve. Made no sense ever. I hated it the day it was announced.
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 24, 2017 -> 01:35 PM) A lead off walk followed by a homer off the first pitch. Shades of yesterday I'm not trying to make excuses for Shields, but he was squeezed big time by ump on first hitter. Then he grooved first pitch to second hitter. Oh well.
  22. If he goes to arbitration next year, what is he likely to get? $6-7 mm?
  23. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 05:55 AM) I wish they'd promote him. He'd be a lot more interesting if producing in AA. Unfortunately, Alvarez & Peter are blocking him. Neither doing well.
