  1. Check out those batting averages at Great Falls. Yesterday's game had a combined 22 hits, 10 walks, and 21 runs, and it was played in well under three hours.
  2. Zach Phillips has quietly put together a solid season for Charlotte's bullpen. Plus, he has had limited success in majors previously. He did not pitch last year. Was it TJS?
  3. Arguably the worst (inter-league) trade the White Sox ever made was trading Johnny Callison to the Phillies for Gene Freese. 1959. That started it.
  4. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 27, 2015 -> 12:17 AM) Team I'm pretty sure. The Sox would be crazy to pick up his option. What scares me is that Hahn will try to re-negotiate his contract, waive the options and give him two more years at slightly smaller amount. Then, we'll have similar comments to make next year.
  5. What is his option price for 2016?
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 09:15 PM) Barons hoping to get May back in August August?? Is that May's first concussion? Seems like an awfully long time, hope he comes back 100%.
  7. I was thinking of next year.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) The contract was worth that if he played in the majors for the year. But because of when they let him go, they only had to pay like 700k. Okay, thanks.
  9. We had 'em all the way.
  10. Are you guys sure about Viciedo? I thought he signed for $4.2MMish.
  11. Okay, the CWS is finally, finally ova. When do Sox ink Fulmer and where does he go?
  12. Turn Micah into a DH, then. Assuming he can hit, of course. Nothing wrong with having a non-HR hitter, who hits .300 and steals a bunch of bases as a DH.
  13. QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 07:20 PM) Hahn has to take the word of his scouts and bosses just like any other GM. He has made an impressive amount of rationally sound baseball moves, given the org's position the last few years. Does that include signing Viciedo to a $4+ large contract and then releasing him a couple of weeks later?
  14. How many 16 year olds can they realistically expect to sign?
  15. I'm waiting for one of our mods (can't remember his name) to tell us that Fulmer is 99.99 % certain of signing with Sox.
  16. New twist. Reed optioned to AAA by D-backs.
  17. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 21, 2015 -> 08:06 PM) Micah for Carlos Kottaras for Flowers Johnson for Danks. Substitute Bonafacio for Carlos.
  18. Just saw that Brent Morel is hitting .239 for Indy (vs Charlotte).
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 10:12 PM) Okay - didn't realize things were that hard-nosed. Now was Glines really a 10th round talent; or did they just pick him so that they could get 150K in cap room, essentially punting their 10th pick? That's what I thought, too.... creating the cap room and then treating it like an asset. Did they create it for Fulmer, or someone else?
  20. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 06:58 PM) I always wonder if this was another brought up too soon. I don't think so. I think Borchard just hit a level and peaked early; he had plenty of minor league AB's. I think he had 4-5 years in minors with over 100 K's.
  21. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) It was the right move, he's one of the best closers in the game. He had a rare bad outing. It was the wrong move. Sale had plenty left. As soon as the first guy got on, you knew what was likely to happen. It did. He has had several bad outings. He is not a "lights out" closer.
  22. Matt Lindstrom has been lights out for 2-3 weeks.
  23. I lived in Seattle for a couple of years in the mid 90's, when Randy Johnson was really dealing and Lou Piniella was the Mgr. Game after game Randy would pitch his butt off, and Lou would bring in a relief pitcher and blow the game. Finally, Randy threw a tantrum, and it got in the papers. He wanted to finish his own games, period, paragraph. And Lou said okay. Finally. And Randy closed his own games and won them. Sale should throw his tantrum.
  24. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 06:37 PM) Excellent post. The only way for the Sox to become successful is to spend big money on top free agents. They have a poor minor league system with very little talent and poor player development. They have very little on the major league roster to trade for major league ready talent and too many holes to fill through trades. If they are not willing to make a very big splash on free agents it will take a very long time to turn this team around, and probably never with the people in charge of evaluating and developing talent. Bring in top tier talent through free agency and hire a good manager and coaches to manage them. Then you lose your draft picks and farm system gets worse. Plus, they will overpay for whomever they get. Start with the farm. They'll be getting top draft choices for the next few years. Get some Cubans. Get some guys who can run and play defense. Get lucky.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 19, 2015 -> 08:01 PM) Kinda scary that Abreu is looking more like a very good player and not an MVP candidate. He would be better if on a good team.
