  1. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 5, 2012 -> 04:53 PM) Reed should of been closer earlier................Ventura way to stubborn. Kenny would not let him close, IMO.
  2. QUOTE (Baron @ May 5, 2012 -> 04:39 PM) :lolhitting I can just see that on the report. * Fielder placed on the 60 day DL with gout* Did you know that Early Wynn pitched a complete game with GOUT? That's tough.
  3. Caulfield, you wrote a couple of the best posts I have ever read at SoxTalk.
  4. Robin afraid of overworking Reed.
  5. Robin will say that he didn't want to put too much pressure on the rookie (Reed), so he sticks with the left handed vet.
  6. Robin will say that he didn't want to put too much pressure on the rookie (Reed), so he sticks with the left handed vet.
  7. Thornton's trade value just went down.
  8. How does Ken Williams Jr get to stay on the Birm roster. He is consistently below the Mendoza Line and there are two legitimate outfield prospects in Shoemaker and Earley at W-S.
  9. How did we get Jaye? Was he part of one of the trades last winter? Frasor or Santos?
  10. Buckner just turned 24, second year in the system. First Baseman. Had good year at Bristol in 2011, hitting .311 with 5 HR's. Now he is leading hitter at Kanny (.368 in 9 ngames). Don't know if he was hurt early. Late round draft choice out of WVU in 2011. Has a another good prospect at First Base ahead of him (Black/W-S), but good chance he will move up, so Buckner should get his opportunity.
  11. Kussmaul finished April with his third save, leading B'ham. He diod give up a run, ERA now 1.64. Very stingy with hits alled (6 per 11 innings) but has too many walks (9). Looks as if he and Henry Mabee are the two main relief guys so far this year. This his third year in Sox system, hopefully he'll get promoted to Charlotte later.
  12. Beckham needs a trip to Charlotte for his own good. I don't like these talks about trading Floyd or Peavy. Ride them out. If Kenny trades them, he'll just get pitchers who can't get anybody out in minors.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 07:53 PM) Well, Conor Jackson's been playing 3B. Who knows what the White Sox are thinking in regards to Morel and Beckham at this point. They both woulod look good in a Charlotte uniform, even if for 3-4 weeks.
  14. QUOTE (kapzk @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 08:00 PM) He didn't score on Ross' error back in the first, 3rd base coach was waving him in while he was looking back in the field just b4 the error took place and coming to a halt at 3rd. Did any of our announcers point out his lack of hustle/laziness?
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 07:58 PM) And the turning point was Dunn not easily scoring in the 1st inning when Ross fumbled the ball around in LF. Sigh. Konerko hit a double...Dunn had been on 1B with a walk, he didn't look at the play in front of him and just assumed he would be held up by McEwing instead of waiting to be stopped. When he realized what was going on, it was too late for him to score. Dunn. What a jerk. No excuse for that on any level of baseball.
  16. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 08:03 PM) They're wasting their time with Beckham. I agree. For some reason, I still think he and Morel will come around, but one or both needs to go down to minors to regain confidence, and soon. I don't have any permanent suggestions, but Robin and whatshisname have to do something.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2012 -> 07:30 PM) Ryan Sweeney has never been all that great. Never developed the power that would make him a legit full time starting OF. He would have filled roles on the Sox, but that's only because of the failure of other OF's to even be adequate. I just reviewed Sweeney's minor league stats when he was in our system. We signed him out of high school, sent him to the Rookie League and he hits well over .300. Next year at W-S he has a solid year. Next two years he has solid numbers iin Birm and Charlotte. He was still 21-22. Now he is 26-27 and a legit outfielder. Plus, he can play defense. When I think of some of the mediocrity (and worse) we have played in the outfield in the last 5 years, I would pull my hair out if I had any. No wonder the other GM's love Kenny.
  18. Why did Kenny give up on Sweeney?
  19. Don't know why this guy doesn't get morre attention. All he does is get people out.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) If Robin had to use Stewart for a significant stretch yesterday after 14, someone, probably Stewart, would have been sent down to Charlotte. That would be okay. I have two points here. 1) The game was winable if they get Santiago out of there before hit # 5. Leaving him in there for the duration was tantamount to giving up when tied. 2) Managers are copycats, and they often will leave the closer in there in situations like this, as I mentioned in my earlier post. It happened again today in Mets/Marlins game. Marlins are up 2-1, Ozzie brings in closer Heath Bell, who, like Santiago, has been ineffective lately and should have been on short leash. He gives up 4 straight walks, game tied, and he has thrown 40 some pitches. Why leave him in? So Ozzie goes by the 2012 book on how to mishandle the bullpen, and Bell gives up the winning hit.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 12:04 PM) It was the 14th inning and they had blown through most of the pen already. That game belonged to the closer, no matter who it was out of necessity. Crain? Stewart? They could have pitched. After the long home run, he gave up two more hits, and it was still tied. What if Santiago went in with a four run lead, are you going to leave him in until he gives up five? Play to win the game. Plus, Oakland had already used their two best bullpen guys. I would take my chances going into the 15th all tied up. Don't get me wrong, I still like Ventura.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 09:08 AM) Remind me why Hector was chosen to close? Ventura says he will stick with him fine, but it doesn't seem to just give up one hit or one bomb when he scuffles he gives up several of them or at least several hits. He is young and he and Reed don't have anything as far as experence over on the other and Reed seems good right now. And am I wrong in thinkig we haven't seen much of that fab screwball Santiago has? Looks like a lot of fastballs usually. As much as I like Robin, a lot of the blame goes to him. He puts Santiago in there, and he gives up five hits, won't take him out no matter what. Lots of managers are doing that now, they prob don't want to hurt the closer's feelings, etc. Since Santiago wasn't exactly lights out in previous games, he should have been on a short leash, especially after the game tying home run.
  23. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 10:47 AM) How could that be? Wtf are they doing using a different ball? Must be cheaper... Japanese league has had higher seams for years.
  24. Ravelo just turned 20 this week.
