Realistic Adam Dunn expectations
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 12:25 AM) What exactly is one of the best power hitters and run producers in the game worth then? Twenty bucks. He can't play the field damnit. At least someone like Mark Kotsay's got a stellar glove on him.

White Sox sign Will Ohman to 2 year deal worth $4mil
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 12:15 AM) Now I want you to google the Adam Dunn acquisition thread and read my posts in that thread. It shouldn't be too hard to find since it was so recent. And then tell me I just hate just to hate. Matter a fact I'll find it myself. Dude, I know you were ecstatic, I don't need to go digging for it. You aren't hating just to hate, but it seems like minor annoyances are becoming HUGE annoyances to you. Sure, three year deals to relievers more often then not don't pan out, PK will probably regress (I won't say definitely, since no one saw his 2010 coming), who knows about Quentin, Gordon, and AJ bouncing back, or about the pen with it's most dominant reliever moving to a more limited role and losing two big arms, Ohman never has gotten a multi-year deal before, EJax is $8.5M that could be given to Soriano or another closer, Peavy could be a huge pricetag and nothing else etc. But the thing is, this team won 88 games last year without a DH, without it's ace, with a long stretch of mediocrity from the rotation, with just one stable bat for the entire year, with a shaky-as-nothing-else closer and now we've got that DH, we'll probably get that ace back, our closer will (hopefully) continue being a rock, and hopefully whatever the rotation did to turn it around last year carries over. That being said, I'm an optimist when it comes to sports, this team could still lose to the Twins. Not saying they will, but it is still very likely.

Sale's mechanics
I will agree that Sale being anything less than a starter is bad, but if he becomes a dominant (and I mean stupidly dominant) reliever, that doesn't hurt either. The fact that he will be in the bullpen worries me, but haven't closers moved from bullpen to starter (Dempster?) in recent years?

White Sox sign Will Ohman to 2 year deal worth $4mil
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 11:57 PM) And wtf is that supposed to mean? Has my spelling gotten worse? Has my grammar fallen off? Has my VO-CAB-U-LARY taken a hit? Oh, I know. I don't kiss the White Sox collective asses every two seconds. Santos was not a product of the system. What are we debating? This is fact. Now I give them props for being able to, at least for 1 year, get decent production out of him. Thornton was 5 years ago. Again, I give them props for that and have for years. But the train doesn't come to a halt because of a nice move you made five years ago. You've just been on a huge negative streak J4L. It just seems like everything is pissing you off, not you not-kissing-White-Sox-ass. The debate for Santos being a product of the system is he was groomed as a pitcher solely by the White Sox. But man, it's gotten to the point where I don't even think acquiring Carlos Gonzalez and Mike Stanton would make you happy because CarGo's on a long deal and Stanton will only be a sophomore next year.

2011 Video Game Catch-All Thread
For those who play Jam, do the Kings (OF ALL TEAMS) baffle you? I can never get up-tempo offense against them, whether I'm playing alone or with friends. I'll walk all over Malone and Stockton and Hardaway and Mullin, but freakin' Landry and Evans give me headaches.
-
Sale's mechanics
Weren't Randy Johnson's mechanics supposed to be terrible? Didn't Prior have flawless mechanics? It's all a crapshoot really, I trust ptatc though.

I love a good conspiracy theory....
My guess is 2012 apocalypse. Everything else is a cover-up.

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot in head
QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 11:50 PM) That birth date is surreal. No s***. This is all a sad, sad mess. I dislike Palin as much as the next liberal, but as Balta said, she's just a jackass. I guarantee she didn't want this to happen. For the sake of the dead, please let America put aside the political agendas for a least a day.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 06:11 AM) Orlando's on a 9 game winning streak now after beating Dallas last night. Hedo Turklogu had 17 assists. He's just fits perfectly into our offensive system as a facilitator for the offense when you've got scoring PG's in Nelson and Arenas. Dwight Howard would have to be top 3 for the MVP award right now also. Got a lot of publicity early along with CP3, then that died down a bit after the losing streak. Just saw highlights. Still want JJ Redick. Still hate Otis.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 05:02 AM) It just goes to show how underrated (STILL) he is with casual fans. Bogut is just so damn injury prone. I know I just was repping Noah, but Bogut's had what? 103 injuries to his arm while Noah has had two (albeit bad) injuries. That being said, I'd consider him a Tier 2.5 Center, but it seems he suffers from Kerry Wood syndrome.

White Sox sign Will Ohman to 2 year deal worth $4mil
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) Huh? Sox didn't spend billions of dollars to get to his dream $180M payroll. Also, J4L, how is Santos not a product of the Sox? They are the ones who solely developed him as a pitcher.

White Sox sign Will Ohman to 2 year deal worth $4mil
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 05:18 AM) Has any team in baseball had a worse off-season than the Angels? Or at least out of the teams that matter [Pirates don't count]. And no way in hell are we getting Soriano. And I don't want him for the years and money he will command. I still say his price will come down. His suitors went from Angels, Yankees, White Sox to Angels because Sox don't like the price and Yankees want their first rounder. If Angels don't pay him, his price will come down.

Garza to the Cubs.
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 05:47 AM) Been at NSBB.com for about an hour and most of their fans hate the trade. They think they gave up way too much for a guy with mediocre peripherals and isn't any better than Randy Wells. I actually checked it out and Randy Wells was actually better than Garza in 2010. lol. Of course, the AL east is a much tougher division than the NL central. But last I checked the Reds, Brewers and Cardinals could all hit. Maybe this wasn't such a good move for the Cubs. Just headed over there and damn they do not like this deal like the morons that call the Score. I love this deal from Rays perspective, hate it from Cubs. They're going to try and compete...but rebuild...at the same time. With a huge payroll. Garza just keeps them towards the middle of the draft, he won't propel them to victory in the 3 years he's there.

White Sox sign Will Ohman to 2 year deal worth $4mil
I like it for that cheap and for a year. Also, with Soriano's market dwindling to it seems just the Angels, if they don't sign him, KW could swoop in at the end of the offseason.. CL - Soriano SU - Thornton SU - Crain MR - Sale MR - Santos LR - Ohman LR - Pena Soriano would be a luxury, and it'll probably be the other six plus Infante, but that'd be a lethal bullpen.

I miss Joakim Noah. Ugh. His scoring and our currently unknown shooting guard are needed.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
So, looking over the Centers in the league I'd have to say Noah is #2. If he weren't injured he'd be the East's default backup center. The center position is just so bad. Top: Dwight Howard Tier 2: Joakim Noah, Al Horford Tier 3: Nene, Al Jefferson, Marc Gasol, Tyson Chandler, Andrew Bogut Tier 4: Everyone else.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 10:47 PM) Ever since watching Hard Knocks, I thought Mark Sanchez seemed like a pretty cool guy, but he just went up another notch in my book. He's an overrated QB, but this is a really good story... http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/news/story?id=5991920 Sanchez I hate USC, but I couldn't help but like Sanchez. Good guy.

Frank Hall of Fame chances
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 6, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) I really want something bad to happen to Jason Giambi. Could you imagine just what 1 more MVP would look like on Frank's resume right now? No way a 3-time MVP doesn't get in on the first ballot. DH or not. +1 If Frank isn't a first ballot HOF, some BBWAA members will not sleep ever again.
-
2011 HOF is Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven.
Yes on Omar. Harolds off the ballot.

Is 2011 make or break for Ozzie?
Doesn't Tommy John surgery take two years to recover from? Plus, Nathan is in his mid-30's. I think the days of Joe Nathan striking fear into the AL are long over. Plus, Capps wasn't that solid last year for them, so its not like they have a good BP right now. While the Twins core of Mauer-Morneau-Young-Liriano-Duensing is still intact, it's a big question mark after those 6. The rotation is suspect after Liriano-Duensing, the lineup still has Mauer-Morenau-Young, but Cuddyer-Kubel-Span all had down years last year from 2009 and who knows about Valencia-Nishioka-Casilla. It sure will be interesting to watch.

Rafael Soriano signs with Yankees
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) Especially since we'd be giving up a second round pick as well to sign Soriano. Forgot about that. No way in hell I include Thompson period then.
