  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 04:28 AM) If I had to guess, Sale will be starting 2011 in AAA or AA, while they try to work on his wildness. He hasn't even gotten a major league batter out yet; why rush the kid? I should put a footnote here; This would all depend on Jackson not being traded, Peavy being healthy, and Sale showing he can be a MLB pitcher this year and a starter in the AFL.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 02:56 AM) I couldn't disagree with you more. In fact, I don't know that I have ever disagreed with a series of posts more so than these that you've been posting over the course of the last week. If I wanted to cheer on a team this way, I would wear a royal blue cap with a red "C" on it. This is a great post.
  3. So, with the Sox having Peavy-Buehrle-Floyd-Danks-Jackson-Sale all under contract next year, this made me wonder. 1. The Sox really love some pitching depth. 2. Sale is the 3rd prospect put on the fast track to the bigs; Gordon, Mitchell looked like he was going to, and now Sale. 3. Kenny probably wants Sale as a starter, not a lefty set up. 4. Kenny floated the idea of the sixth starter around before, I believe in 2006 with McCarthy. 5. Lastly, Ozzie hates back to back righties or lefties. Now, for some number crunches. Benefits: 1. Keeping pitchers healthy - Peavy's shoulder issue - Danks' hand blister last year - Floyd's hip - Buehrle having a lot of innings on his arm 2. Allowing the starters to go deeper each time means more rest for Thornton/Pena/Sergio/Jenks/Putz (assuming he could return)/Threets. In this case, Linebrink is either DFA'd with only one year on his contract or traded for nothing. With more rest, Putz/Jenks/Thornton/Sergio could all switch off who comes out, making the games all the tougher when it gets to the pen. 3. Better performance. We've seen what good pitching does this year, but what if it could get even better. 4. Pitchers fresher than other teams for playoffs. 5. Ease Sale into starter role. Draw Backs: 1. One less man in the pen. Essentially the Linebrink role, if the Sox would cut him. 2. The better performances could drive up prices for guys like Danks and EJax. Also, for what it's worth the only two teams I could see pulling this off would be the Sox and Rays, and I would really like to see the Sox think about this next year.
  4. Again...will it ever air on Comcast SportsNet? I want to see it >.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 11:50 PM) Maybe it was Anderson's own fault. He was such a good hitter, he decided he should pitch to spare the pitchers.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 11:11 PM) 103? WTF?!?!? This.
  7. Over the average fan? I'd say a lot smarter. On something like this board, borderline average.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 01:00 AM) I prefer to think of it as we are winning because the players that he puts on the field every day are playing very well -- with part of the reason the players are playing well -- is the Chicago White Sox have an excellent manager who did not give up on his team when said players were playing like bums in April and May. Even though Ozzie drives me crazy, I love him. That being said, he did tell the team that half of them would be gone by June in April & May.

    Soxtalk Pets

    QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) My puppy, Fisk, loves Soxtalk. After reading one of Critic's posts apparently. First pic: D'awwwww Second pic:
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:25 PM) Teahen 0/3, drops to .444 average. This kid will never make the bigs.
  11. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:23 PM) For being a wily veteran, Omar does some weird things at the plate and on the basepaths sometimes.
  12. s***...get better AJ. ...get ready Flowers.
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 07:49 PM) I would be open to a Morel/Teahen/Vizquel/Kotsay battle for 3B in Spring Training next year. Fixed
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) http://www.comicsalliance.com/2010/08/06/m...ga-man-sprites/ For anyone who's an NES and Marvel comic book fan. Greatest. Thing. Ever.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 10:44 PM) That's why I was asking and not stating. I wonder if he's worth the money or just an average guy. Maybe he's a one-inning guy. What is he? He's a good fourth man in a pen. However, in ours, he's a perfect 5th/6th man.
  16. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 01:11 PM) Interesting questions and inside looks at the numbers. KW will definitely have an interesting offseason that is for sure. At this point, I wouldn't mind bringing PK back at a discount but if we could have a lefty bat in his spot instead, the Sox may want that. Viciedo brings an interesting dynamic to the table as well because he almost seems ready. We have not seen him against righties and that may change our minds on that, but he definitely can hit ML lefties...no question. To our resident Payroll expert Kalapse...do you see the Sox being able to keep this rotation as is AND somehow get a productive lefty bat? Do they have the finances for that? He has 33 AB's, out of 67, against righties and is hitting .273 with a HR. I'd also trade Danks for Votto, but it would probably take Danks + Viciedo. I'd still do it.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 09:16 AM) We saw how careful Ozzie was to let Santos pitch in April so expect similar treatment for Sale. And if Sale responds the same way Sergio did, then that's a scary, scary bullpen. Especially if Jenks and Linebrink can just be decent.
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 02:37 AM) I hope he said all that jokingly..... It happened back when Buck was the Texas manager.
  19. Amazingly, Chris Sale has been on the roster two days and we don't have a thread about him and it seems odd. Anyone know the last time a player got drafted and was up in the bigs before the rosters expanded?
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) Ha, I was going to post this exact thing. That is the craziest, quickest ride of ALL F*CKING TIME. I have to go see this thing now. No ride I've ever been on has made me feel an extreme adrenaline rush...minor ones, but nothing great. It's almost a curse. My favorite coaster all around is Rock N' Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Aerosmith blasting when going from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds in the dark and being unsure of everything makes it a blast. The Raging Bull is quite fun too.
  21. Ozzie v. Buck Round 2 "[showalter] never even smelled a jock in the big leagues," Guillen says. "Mr. Baseball never even got a hit in Triple-A. I was a better player than him, I have more money than him and I'm better looking than him."
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 11:22 PM) I dislike Kotsay as well. But look at the bright side. What if he is getting hot? It would be the right time, woudn't it? He definitely sparked the team today, preventing a difficult loss. We'd have split with the struggling Tigers, rather than bagging an impressive 3 of 4 against a division rival on the road. 3 of 4 is pretty damn nice, thanks in large part to Kotsay. I'm just sayin' ... maybe he'll get hot? I don't know if I actually hate Kotsay so much as I hate how Ozzie uses him and all of this bull***t magical praise he gets for taking up a roster spot when he's been one of the worst players in the AL this year with plenty of starts. Edit: And the fact that there are 3 guys (counting Teahen) who could do what he does, but better.
