The Official Run Into Outs Thread
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 10:59 AM) here's the silliest thing about running Rios (or anyone) with two outs and Konerko up: In the case of a homer, triple ,double or walk, it doesn't matter whether Rios is on second base or 1st base. The only time it matters is if Paul singles. Konerko has a combined 2518 hits+walks. He has 1402 total homers, triples and doubles, and walks combined. He has 1116 singles. In other words, there's around a 60% chance if Paul reaches that it doesn't matter whether Alex is on first base or second base, and that's before you even factor in CS percentage. Secondly, why the f*** are you playing for 1 run, down 5? Dumb, dumb, dumb. If Konerko kept that first inning going longer, who knows what happens last night. But how will Paulie be able steal if Rios is only on second and not third?

Removing the Fourteenth Amendment
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 07:12 AM) First off, it said this: That doesn't mean the entire amendment. There are several clauses in the 14th amendment, not just the citizenship one. And secondly to the bolded, no it wouldn't. The clause was added to ensure that freed slaves and their children were guaranteed citizenship. Prior to this, if you were born to American parent(s) you were a citizen. And frankly, I'd have no problem with tweaking this a bit, because after everyone get's done complaining about it, the thought behind makes sense. It has definitely been exploited in ways this was not meant for in recent years. Regarding the bolded, I was unsure on how it would effect it since back then they didn't have citizenship rules (as far as I knew). Now I do. I'm honestly on the fence for this one. On one hand, it prevents people from being born here and just leaving and maybe coming back. On the other, some come back to work and live here as a legalized citizen and I can't see much wrong with that.

Carlos Beltran
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 06:58 AM) I wonder if he's fully recovered from his injuries and he just has to get his timing and confidence back? Can you imagine if we claimed him and he did get back to his 2006 - 2008 form next year? Wow. I would call up Mike Rizzo and laugh.

Removing the Fourteenth Amendment
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kamala-d-har...f_b_677090.html Lindsay Graham and Mitch McConnell want to look at eliminating the fourteenth amendment Wouldn't removing the fourteenth amendment technically make it so that anyone born in the US period is an illegal immigrant?

August White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 02:52 AM) How come we never acquire any ex Twins to reverse the jinx we have against them? They get Crede last year who homered against us and now they have Thome? f***. Because the Angels swooped in with $90M

Carlos Beltran
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 01:06 AM) So is it better that he cleared waivers for us to go after him? Wouldn't we be on the hook for 50k if we made a claim and didn't reach a deal, and now we can negotiate for free? Or is all this wrong The fact that he cleared waivers means we can trade some prospect not on the 40 man roster for him to see if the Mets would kick in some money. Edit: When on the other hand if he had been claimed by us on waivers, the Mets could have just made us assume the whole contract.

I'd like to point out I'm in the 1% that wanted Thome back.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) I'm sure that's what Mike Rizzo asked for in return for Adam Dunn. Dunn walked in the offseason to the Mets. Paulie's a Phil, Buehrle a Nat, Kubel, Sergio & Sizmore are Cards. Yonder Alonso, Derrek Norris, and Jon Lester are White Sox.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 11:04 PM) When you think about how close this division is going to be and couple that with how many games this strategy is costing us, it's an unparalleled exercise in offensive inefficiency. We could lose the damn division because of this. That's as big a disaster as i can think of. Who would have thought two months ago...*silently killed* But wait! We're in first place! *silently killed*

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) This is the team he chose. What do you expect him to say... I want to take this pitching staff and that offense and combine them into some sort of super team.

I'd be all over a Carlos Beltran acquisition. And in Sept. when Carlos Torres gets called up, we match the Cubs for the lead league in Carlos's

I wouldn't fire Ozzie. But he'd never get input at all again into building the roster.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 09:59 PM) If we had resigned Thome though, there might not have been a roster spot for Kotsay But he's so f***ing flexible! What would we do without an average **** bat, an average 1B glove, and a guy who can't play OF any more.

Game Thread 8/10: MIN v CWS, 7:10pm
QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) He must hate him? Geezus... This is how rumors start. No... Ozzie does NOT hate Thome. He repeatedly over and over talks about how much respect he (and the entire organization) has for Thome. The bottom line is that he (and probably Kenny) felt they didn't want to disrespect Thome by bringing him back for a pittance this season after the big contract he had here... and then have him only play in a reserve role. They felt it would be an uncomfortable situation for everyone. In situations like that, it's easier to have someone move on and let the new team make that decision. The mistake Ozzie Guillen made was in thinking Thome was a poor fit for this team compared to Mark Kotsay because on-base percentage is nothing compared to flexibility. Fixed.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) Did anyone expect that, once he got on base with 2 outs in the first inning, there would be any other result other than a CS by him? It's grindy bay-by! He's a P-T-Per with that grind bay-by!
-
Game Thread 8/10: MIN v CWS, 7:10pm
Before the game, wasn't Ozzie saying something about how he couldn't have Thome on this roster? What a joke he is at times (when it comes to his stupid man-crushes)

So that was a disaster of a series.
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 07:36 AM) I'm not sure of that. I know everyone says that Ozzie loves Kotsay therefore Kotsay will always play full time if he's with the team... but once Teahen is back, I think its actually possible that Kotsay is indeed let go... and if not, will play less often. I place the odds at 70/30 that Kotsay is the one Kenny dumps because of how much Kenny has been hunting for a bat.

So that was a disaster of a series.
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 07:27 AM) This was the first bad series the team has played, basically, since the first week of June. That's two months, and that's pretty amazing. This was bound to happen eventually, and it happened on the road, against an underachieving team who just got a new manager. Losing 3 of 4 is nothing to panic about, at all. The only really scary thing is the offensive woes, and the fact that the Sox are still without a major league DH. Not sure there is any way to address that at this point, but perhaps getting Teahen back might help a bit, if he plays over Kotsay. That will only happen if Kotsay is DFA'd

Buck up campers...
QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 12:07 AM) I'm so tired of the "who would have thought 2 months ago we'd be here" point. Who cares, all that is in the past now. All that matters is where this team is now going forward, not where they came from. Who would have thought 2 months ago you could be in a position to make this post?

Is there any rule against hiring an assistant manager? I say this, because Cora will always be bench coach as long as Ozzie is here.

Buck up campers...
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 11:45 PM) Well said. Your mind shouldn't be stuck in May and April thinking how great it would be if this team is at its current position. You should be thinking about the team in its current situation - and that's tied in a pennant race after a horrid series. Now if we were to look back on the season at the end of it and we came up short, it might be nice to think how great this team had to play to get back into it. But to think of it like that now, that's almost a defeatist attitude.
