COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/02/20/us/us-herd-immunity-covid.html This is from a month ago, but you can play with this for when we reach herd immunity. At 3 million a day, we're looking at May - July.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I wouldn't worry about the vaccines (J&J, Moderna, Pfizer) currently being used in the US. The authorization process the FDA uses is brutal. AstraZeneca is the one being discussed here.

30M specifically. From stories I've read, AZ is dragging their feet with the FDA (i.e. providing data, applications), which is mind boggling. They should likely just ship to nations that have already approved, to be honest, but I guess they're invested since it was funded with the DPA / Warp Speed.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
This is the most remarkable thing. I've got a ton of friends vaccinated. I was cautiously optimistic that we'd be getting through seniors by now. I don't think any company other than Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J will play a big role in the US roll out, but AstraZenica and Novavax may play a huge role moving forward in helping vaccinate the rest of the world. The US is going to be needed abroad to help vaccinate a lot of the world - Andy Slavitt was talking about this yesterday. The virus has to be defeated globally after it's beaten in the US, or else it can mutate.

Coop on 670 The Score at 5:00 PM CT
He was definitely one of the best pitching coaches in the league for a long time. Probably until Sale/Q departed - but then either his magic ran out or he just wanted to do a one-size fits all approach to his pitchers. Yeah, the rebuild was hard, but he had live arms. They needed to go elsewhere for help.

Fans at opening day? Fans at Opening Day! (confirmed)
Because the actual director of the CDC has said they're still doing research on whether or not fully vaccinated people can still transmit the virus, especially in lieu of the variants. If one person in the household is vaccinated, but the rest aren't, the vaccinated person doesn't want to put the others at risk.

I know, but I don't trust them to make the correct decision of having the roof open on a hot day for the sake of public health. If Texas develops into a hotspot over the next month, 41,000 people in a space with circulating air, well, it's not hard for the virus to drift from the seats behind the dugout down to the players.

They're opening at 100% capacity and they have a closed-roof stadium.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
I got my shot at a FEMA facility that limited to just specific zip codes in Brooklyn for its first week in operation and is right now only serving people that live in Brooklyn. The FEMA facility in Queens is doing the same for Queens. I believe the goal is to make it so that communities that have been underserved / overwhelmed can level out a bit.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Of my doctor/educator friends who have received both shots, the worst side effect was fatigue for a day. I had a sore arm after one shot. For my wedding in late September, we're going to require vaccination proof - we already know that we're going to lose 3 or so guests, including my fiancee's aunt and uncle. Bafflingly stupid.

Clearly I wasn't trying to be gracious in defeat. I was wrong about how MLB is handling service time and changed once presented with facts, said I would do as such, then got the staccato/capslock treatment. At least I was willing to admit defeat once presented with actual evidence, versus people who have dug in their heels and decided to troll the board for years with their same bad takes.

Yes, I realize this now thanks to Jimmy's non-shouty explanation. I'm used to dudes having to actually be down in the minors for some arcane reason.
