QUOTE (steveno89 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) Everything I have seen suggests that Jimenez has the potential to be a 50/55 hit tool combined with 70 game power. I have yet to see a hit tool comp that would be anywhere near Miguel Cabrera's, who is a sure fire 1st ballot hall of famer. Is Jermaine Dye a fair comparison at this point? If I can get JD's 2006 form out of Jimenez, I will be very happy.

Abreu, Holmberg and Jones with the best ones

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) I said it in the game thread, but his route to the ball was almost as perfect as his technique to get to the ball once he got to the fence. He looked like he was actually fairly shallow and in slightly into left center when that ball was hit. His route to the ball was straight as an arrow to the spot where the ball was hit. I really hope that Engel can hit at all, because he is a near GG level CF. Mike Trout's physical tools baby

Yeah, this is the type of win to enjoy with young guys coming through.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 12:12 AM) Yup, let's negotiate with the madman and assume he'll keep up his end of the bargain! Great idea Balta! Amazing how you can rip our "top men" and yet come up with this gem. Still hard to tell if we're talking Trump or Kim.
-
Also, what are we trading for him?
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 04:23 PM) Wasn't sure if this is about Kim or Trump to be honest Dude, same. You have two thin-skinned, can't stand the heat, cult of personality leaders. Armed with nukes.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 1, 2017 -> 10:18 AM) While hosting the Olympics usually sucks, it makes so much more sense for a city like LA to do it, just because so much of the stuff is already built. The major US metros are really some of the few places that make any sense at all for the Olympics. The infrastructure already exists, so just use it. Building new stuff is idiotic.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) Not saying I get the love for Tebow, but I'm pretty sure the stadiums he has played in so far have drawn significantly better when the team he is on plays there. Probably worth noting that he's been playing in SEC country.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 03:08 PM) LOL no. None. I think putting in Eddie Gaedel would produce a similar number of ticket sales. Sign Minnie Jr.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) Can't blame the Sox for being overtly cautious on kid that they just spent $52M on This. The injuries are the minor-est of injuries and he could probably just rest for a couple days. But it's much better to be cautious.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 01:03 PM) Come on now, SSK. You obviously know that the alternative to all the sanctions and whatnot of NK was an invasion - either by bombing campaign or an actual ground force. Who knows how China reacts to that. NK definitely reacts by sending missiles into South Korea. Millions of South Koreans probably die which destabilizes that entire region. I mean, NK's nuclear program is definitely a concern and a major risk to the West, but let's not act like there was a particularly reasonable alternative to sanctions and more sanctions. Even NK isn't crazy enough to actually launch a nuclear warhead at the U.S. They would be wiped off the map within minutes. It's a nuclear deterrent.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 08:34 PM) If your assets cashflow an amount greater than your monthly expenses, you are wealthy. Arguably better than being rich. Kind of like having a great farm system! ? Yeah, but then one small thing can throw it out of wack. I can't exactly work having a seizure into my monthly expenses, but when it happens there's a couple thousand dollars that I suddenly owe a hospital for an ambulance/ER trip I didn't order.

QUOTE (WBWSF @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) 1) Who would you rather see in the 2018 White Sox rotation, Arrieta, Holland, Shields or Pelfrey? 2) Would you rather have our present Dhs in 2018 or J.D. Martinez? 3) I don't think JR is going to spend big money on any free agents but if he does he might as well start doing it this off season. 1) I'd much rather see Pelfrey or Holland than Arrieta. They won't be albatross contracts signed for a dead season. 2) I'd prefer to see Avi, I guess? Hell, even a Melky return would be better.

It's way more exciting now that we have Covfefe in the public lexicon

Holland liked my tweet about him, so that's fun. https://twitter.com/TheCubanComet/status/894608103458689026 -
Oh god no. Even before we had a crowded OF in the minors. God no.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 03:03 AM) No he wouldn't be. Kid was putting up legendary numbers as a freshman. I have 0 doubts he'll be fantastic next year. His bat is special. Obviously with the sox recent top picks, they don't value the defensive side of the game others do. I'm personally more on the Turang train, but lets not act like Beer isn't a top 5 talent in the country. If Beer shows any development with the glove next year, I don't see how he isn't the top talent in the draft. And if he is the top of the Sox board, take him and go underslot. The Twins just did this with someone who didn't have historic college numbers and were lauded for their draft. Also, lest we forget, Rodon got passed over for two new guys on the block because he had prospect fatigue. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 03:29 AM) Who is the last MLB star to grow up in Wisconsin? Just curious. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=m...itting/2017/ALL Austin Beck hasn't exactly distinguished himself so far, fwi. Royce Lewis, though, has had a strong pro debut for the Twins. Hunter Greene will start out as a DH and potentially reliever for Billings as early as Tuesday. I'm not gonna base who we draft out of their state.

Which of the current mlb players could contribute to the next competin
Quin replied to Dominikk85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Abreu or Avi as DH (Abreu more likely), Leury as a super-sub a la Zobrist and Omar as the backup catcher. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 09:59 AM) Seems pretty parallel to Matt Davidson who crushed it through the minors and then just splattered into the wall. To be fair, Davidson splattered for like three seasons. QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 10:19 AM) Tito polo out up 16 hrs, 37 sbs, 811 ops as a 21 year old CFer in A and A+ last year. Seems like he has good tools. Any reason he was left off? Depth.

QUOTE (MEANS @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 02:52 PM) The #WhiteSox have claimed infielder D.J. Peterson off waivers from the Seattle Mariners and optioned him to Class AAA Charlotte. Former Top 50 prospect. I like it. Get as many Petersons, Lirianos, Garcias, Hansens, etc. that you can and see if they can reach any of their potential here. Love Hahn's acclimation of buy low potential for pennies. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 11:24 PM) Well it's basically a done deal - yall will get your wish. But i don't have to like it - particularly the sloppy play in achieving the #1 pick. Seriously, what did you want this team to do? You were against signing free agents. Trading for big names. You screamed hero worship at every poster. What is your wish, other than to be different from everyone else?

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 04:38 PM) I doubt they bring Giolito up. I just don't see a compelling reason. Work with Coop and Shields
-
QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 5, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) Yes, of course we have several prospects who may be adequate bottom of the rotation starters. But just think what it would be like to have top of the rotation potential, at every slot. So far, I think Rodon and Kopech are the only two guys, whom I see as #1's. If we end up with too many guys of that caliber, they can be traded or employed as dominant relievers. And, when you factor in injuries and disappointments, we may end up with less than we anticipate. I just think that it's hard to have too much pitching. I think Rodon, Kopech, Hansen and Giolito all have #1 potential (in order of most likely to reach that potential) and Lopez has high #2 upside.
