2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2016 -> 03:46 PM) I laugh every time I see stuff like this. First off, the R's were just as ridiculous with Bill Clinton, and probably worse. Obama himself hasn't been hauled in front of any group to testify about anything. He hasn't been indicted by Congress. He hasn't suffered investigation after investigation. Second, it also ignores that the same amount of irrational hatred went on with W. He got charactured as a monkey on a regular basis. He was called Hitler on a regular basis. There were regular movements to have him indicted for various things, including war crimes. There were mainstream TV show dedicated to mocking W. Are there racists that go after Obama? Sure. Is the main reason he gets targeted racism? No, absolutely not. It is politics, pure and simple. If it were racism, you should be able to look at The Bill Clinton Presidency and see is getting treated differently because he isn't black. Wait, SS2k5 I'm agreeing with you...? I'm saying that's why we SEEM more divided. This s*** went on all the time. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 17, 2016 -> 03:53 PM) He was a pathetic president, but again, I do like him personally. Nothing against him. Sox fans are welcome in the White House. Race: College campuses are a total mess with protests. Rioting does not appear to be far off. Big cities are crime ridden and racial tension is huge. All under Obama who has shown zero leadership. Economy: Middle class has been decimated. All the wealth is controlled by the top 1 percent. Health care: Skyrocketing costs continue. His plan's implementation was a wreck with nothing but chaos. War on terror: Country gripped by fear with school shootings a common occurrence. Need I go on? The big question are we better off now than 8 years ago? LOL to that. You are an enigma.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 17, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) Oh My Gosh. You think Obama was a good president? The country is so divided now after his eight years. On race. Economy. Foreign affairs. Horrible, horrible president. But I do like him personally, his style. He's a bright, funny guy IMO an a Sox fan. HORRIBLE president though. My gosh. And he tried for six years to work with an infantile legislative branch. He got Osama. He got everyone health care. Helped push the rights of LGTBQ individuals along. Greg, only reason people probably seem more divided than in the good ole' days is because we have the internet. But no, let's blame him for racism that he was the subject of for eight years.

Sox Re-Acquire OF Jason Bourgeois
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 17, 2016 -> 10:43 AM) Until his last start (everyone's getting crushed by BOS these days), Chris The Dragon Devenski (Brett Myers deal in 2012) definitely looked like he belonged in his first three outings. That's definitely one to keep an eye on. My problem the last couple of years has been "targeting like a predator drone" guys like Nestor Molina and Matt Davidson and not getting the value we should have when we traded two of our former closers...especially if you look at the insane prices teams paid for Giles (not even a closer in HOU) and Kimbrel this past offseason. The Peavy deal was bad, in the sense that we didn't get much production out of him, he totally wet the bed in 2012 when we needed him in key starts against the Tigers, and he took up a boatload of payroll space, being paid like one of the best pitchers in the game when he wasn't even one of the Top 60-75 anymore, at least not on a consistent basis. Of course, the jury's still out on Avi Garcia. Peavy did have an All-Star season and was acquired for essentially nothing.

POLL: Ezio Auditore needs to change his name back
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ May 17, 2016 -> 10:39 AM) Oh man, forgot about Adewale. Aveline with the machete is criminally underrated too, she could probably hang with Ezio in combat. Adewale was a goddamn tank. I'd have played a full game of Freedom Cry.

Sox Re-Acquire OF Jason Bourgeois
QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 17, 2016 -> 10:11 AM) For brevity, I won't quote your entire list. Many on your list include young-player for young-player trades that I said the Sox were good at. They should do more of those types of trades. However, 1)Lose-lose is never a "Win" Neither it is a neutral experience when you are trading prospects for the veteran. It is a LOSE. 2)Prospects have value. Trading a top 10 prospect (which Reed was) and a starting catcher for a 2 month rental of an above average pitcher is bad business. Sox could have gotten much more for him. The examples of over-pay abound. You have to consider their value AT the time of trade. Williams traded 3 of the org's top 5 prospects for Swisher; one year later he flips him for 1 utility infielder and a couple of organizational minor leaguers. Edwin Jackson had an ERA in excess of 5 and a high salary - Az was looking for a salary dump; somehow, Williams gave them the org's top 2 pitching prospects for this player. No sense of value. Just 2 examples. 3)The veteran should be the "sure thing." You are trading unknown for known. Williams had an uncanny ability to bring in average veterans. 4)2 playoff appearances in 15 years of this type of trading with an above average payroll. Then please explain how the Peavy deal was in anyway bad.

Sox Re-Acquire OF Jason Bourgeois
QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 17, 2016 -> 08:48 AM) Lots of front-office apologists who refuse to look at facts, I see. Here's another fact: TWO playoff appearances in 16 years under this front office. The list is long: Ritchie, Garcia (1/2 year rent), Swisher, Vasquez, Edwin Jackson, Samardzija, Peavy and Frazier. Only Thome could be considered a positive, but if you factor in the fact that jettisoning Frank was part of that move, it is closer to neutral. Bourgeois is 34, has an OPS of .627 in .708 major league at bats. To use him for anything other than Charlotte filler would be beyond belief......except that this org. loves its veterans. Heck Leury is 25 and has an OPS of .823 in Charlotte this year. Ritche: Oh no! We lost...Kip Wells? Loaiza: Steal for Kenny. Garcia: Lost nothing of consequence, re-signed him after he was with the team (thus, not a rental) and helped win the World Series. Strong win. Swisher: Definite loss both times. No arguing there. Thome: Huge win. Vazquez: Three very good seasons with the team (fWAR of 4.7, 4.8, 4.7) and was acquired as a fifth starter. Chris Young had one season of similar value, five years later. Jackson: Hudson's arm fell off and Holmberg is back in Birmingham. Jackson pitched well for the Sox, 4.7 fWAR in a year with the team. Peavy: Gave up essentially nothing for him. Turned into Avi, Lawrie and Frazier on the current roster. Lawrie: Gave up a AAA bullpen arm and a possible future fifth starter for a major component to the team winning right now. Frazier: Who piece of the current team and reason why they're winning. Youkilis: Gave up the Stealth Elf and almost made the playoffs. Liriano: Very similar to Youkilis. Samardzjia: Yeah, that one is bad right now but we'll have to see how far Semien's glove can go and who the Sox draft with their second 1st rounder this year. Now let's look at a few others just for funsies. Carlos Lee was highway robbery for Podsednik in return. Gavin Floyd and Gio was a steal for Freddy (you can be mad for the Phillies, he only won one game with them) Danks for BMac was a great deal.

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ May 17, 2016 -> 07:57 AM) By the letter of the rule, Westbrook traveled, but I really don't wanna hear whining about it from Golden State, they blew a 16-point lead and put themselves in the situation where they had to hope Westbrook f***ed up. Yeah, no whining for Golden State. 1) Klay did foul him, just...didn't get called. 2) Klay traveled like 20 seconds earlier. He just missed.

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ May 17, 2016 -> 06:52 AM) I don't think that interview was really as bad as it was made out to be. Like his answers on the banks, they weren't eloquent, but on substance he was mostly correct. Hillary came off much more prepared citing specific sections (she actually always does this) and Bernie sounded like he was annoyed he even had to answer, and to do so was beneath him. It's not like when she ran against Obama, he knew policy inside and out just like she did so he wasn't intimidated by her, or McCain, despite his "lack of experience" It was his sounding annoyed + when I read the interview, it felt like he was giving ultimate run-around answers, the type that you write on an exam when you don't know the answer.

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ May 17, 2016 -> 06:33 AM) I'm really not a Hillary fan, everything I said about her on this board in 2008 still applies. I was voting for Sanders right up until about 2 days before the Maryland primary when he started openly demonizing even the concept of fundraising for the rest of the Democrats down the ticket - that was it, I can't support that, it's a bridge too far. His sanctimony is the highest priority, not actually accomplishing anything. That doesn't mean I voted for Clinton though, I voted uncommitted and voted the rest of the ballot. But seriously, Clinton against Drumpf? Come on, that's easy. For me, it was Bernie's NY Daily News interview that finally pushed me over to Hillary.

Sox Re-Acquire OF Jason Bourgeois

2016 Democratic Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 17, 2016 -> 01:58 AM) Excellent post! I appreciate you for the deep thoughts to consider. As far as my Hillary distaste ... you know, Obama is a likeable guy it appears. Funny, quick witted, has a personality it appears. Likes a good smoke with his cronies. But he couldn't get anything done except a controversial health care law. I am all in favor of having government pay for the people's health, yes I am, so I applaud Obama a tad for that. But back to Hillary ... if Obama, a pretty decent chap, can't get ANYTHING passed of note and really isn't much of a leader, how the hell is Hillary gonna get anything done with her style??? People in government are going to want to block EVERYTHING she proposes because of her horrific personality and elitism. It'll be an eight-year war so to speak with Congress blocking everything. I just picture her meetings, barking out orders left and right and being perhaps the most ornery U.S. leader in history. When I think of a president I think of a likeable leader, Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Reagan. When I think of somebody you would least think her personality would make a good president, I think of Hillary. That's why this board shocks me. I don't see how anybody could actually be fired up for Hillary. I realize what you say about Bernie may be it ... but I don't read a lot of "Yes I like Hillary but only because Bernie and Drumpf are worse!" You get this Hillary support and considering her past, her teetering on jail, her desire for personal $$$ for limited work (speeches?) I don't get it. Obama got an astronomical amount done, especially when consider the embarrassment that he got for Congress.

QUOTE (soxfan85 @ May 14, 2016 -> 02:46 PM) AND he eats plants and lean meats. All around perfect guy. I really can't wait until we play those guys. Hopefully, we can take those smug looks right off their f$ing faces. Especially, Arrieta's. The Cubs are good, but the NL is a joke. Great, they beat up on Locke today...good for them, he sucks. Then, Arrieta plunks Kang because he is getting hit around a bit. I am really looking forward to the Crosstown series'. God I hate Arrieta.

The Bathroom Dilemma
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 14, 2016 -> 02:46 AM) I cannot believe America is so P.C., so afraid to step on any group, that this is an issue to where big companies will boycott the states that merely want to keep females with penises OUT of the women's bathroom. Do you realize what a small percentage of Americans we are talking about here?? Truthfully is it even 1 percent?? So just because a man with a penis IDENTIFIES with being female we are going to pass laws letting this person with a penis go in the ladies room? My god. How about attacking the homeless problem America?? Or saving the environment? Or fixing roads? Making sure our seniors won't all be homeless? Having affordable healthcare! No ... we're going to worry about changing all the bathroom signs in America to make sure people with penises who IDENTIFY with being female get to go in the women's room. What a country. Greg.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 13, 2016 -> 08:58 PM) Sale is the best pitcher in the American League and perhaps in all of baseball. Kershaw is still king. Quintana's gonna have to deal tomorrow to retain his title of top AL pitcher in terms of fWAR.

Jason >>>>>>>>>>> Hawk
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ May 13, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) You are exactly correct about Harry Caray. And if our inept owner had left well enough alone back in 1981 when he had the ultimate package of Harry Caray AND WGN together, we wouldn't be talking about attendance problems today. The inimitable Caray was well on his way to selling the White Sox experience to a national audience on 'GN back in '81 the same way he would eventually do with the Cubs a few years later, which garnered them the national popularity that they enjoy to this very day. There has been nary an empty seat in Wrigley Field in over 30 years now, and that's primarily due to the effect of Caray on 'GN selling the Cubs back in the 80s. Could of/should of been us, folks. It's that simple. Letting Caray go over petty reasons was a mistake of the highest consequence on the part of Reinsdorf & Co. that will characterize, among many other things, a failed legacy as owner of our Sox. They offered Caray more money than the Cubs. They didn't let him go over petty reasons. SportsVision was a bad idea, but don't act like they wanted to get rid of Caray.

GDT 5/13 Sox (23-12) vs. Yanks (14-19) at 6:05 CT
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 13, 2016 -> 08:02 PM) Sale's evolution this year reminds me a lot of what Sabathia did to become such a dominant pitcher in 2007. Sabathia used to throw nothing but 94-97 MPH fastballs when he first came up. He was good, but not great. Then he started changing speeds on his fastballs. He'd have different variations, a lot like Chris right now. Then we need to consider the defense. It's making it so he (and Quintana) don't have to rely on themselves to record outs. Sale's becoming an even better pitcher and that's scary for the rest of the league.
