Phillies willing to send most of $70 million contract to deal How
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 02:40 PM) Yeah, it's awesome how the NFL takes young people, pays them to run into each other headfirst at full speed for like three years, and then then kicks them to the curb after they start showing symptoms of permanent disability, leaving them to fend for themselves without any career skills as they deal with worsening symptoms of chronic brain damage. I think the NFL system is stupid. I think that if a team signs a player to a deal, that contract is obligated to be finished. Otherwise NFL players should just be able to look at their team's record and go "Oh, we were 4-12 this year, I'm opting out."

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 09:15 PM) "Band Box", AAA, and every other attempt to minimize Wilkin's amazing streak aside, this is unbelievable. I don't ever remember hearing about any hitter in professional baseball, hitting 10 homers in 11 consecutive games, and hitting for the kind of average he is, as well. Actually, I just looked it up and the major-league record of 10 home runs over seven days set by Frank Howard of the Washington Senators in 1968, would top this streak. However, it's still quite remarkable. Read more here: http://www.kansas.com/2012/05/13/2333144_a...l#storylink=cpy This is very intriguing; A left handed power bat to hit behind Abreu. I hope that they find a way to get him in the line up, and see how he adjusts to MLB pitching. I'd really love to know what has caused his sudden emergence as a really serious hitter. He was highly regarded out of college, and did well the first 3 minor league seasons, but did "hit a wall" last year at AAA. There have been comparisons to Jim Thome, as far back as 3 or 4 years ago. He has always been very strong, but has apparently figured a few things out, recently. Does anyone have any insight into what is happening with him? While this is a good point, I still laughed.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 10:21 AM) Hawkins has that power. And supposedly Avi has more than Abreu. Viciedo when he was a prospect was seen as a 40 HR guy.

2014 Cubs Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (farmteam @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) Although the chances of this actually happening are incredibly tiny, it is nuts to think the Cubs could have 3 40+ HR guys in the middle of their lineup in Bryant, Schwarber and Baez. That's not even counting Rizzo. Baez looks like the most likely to bust. He seems an all-or-nothing type -- either he's an 8-time all star or he doesn't even stick in the majors. Just like Abreu, Avi, Hawkins, Davidson, and Viciedo, right?

Jose Abreu general discussion
My weight fluctuates between 225-230 most of the time. When I got down to 210 I was more explosive but had thr same strength as I just lost fat. Then I got hurt and Thanksgiving happend. The injury was a guy ramming his shoulder into my chest so it would have been hirt at a higher weight as well.

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 10:27 PM) You can do the same with the sox , at the top of my head:C-Olivo 2b-Beckham3b-fieldsOf-AndersonOf-borchardOf-SweeneyOf-reedNot going to even mention the failed pitchers lol Prospects=suspects, they don't ALL pan out Yes, but we never sold our fanbase on a team of ONLY those and have ALL of our hopes ride on those. Example: Reed, Olivo, Borchard, and Sweeney, B-Mac, Chris Young, and Dan Hudson were all traded to upgrade the MLB roster while Cubs fans would go nuts if any of their precious prospects were traded. Not saying Sox fans wouldn't, because this board sure does, but so far Gio is really the only one that got away.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 12:48 PM) Dude's 29 f***ing years old and a whopping 4 months younger than Joakim Noah - I don't think people realize that. He's going to get about the same minutes he did last year. What growth, exactly, are you or anyone else expecting? I'm aware of his age. Basically I just mean more consistency for all the stuff that he improved upon last year.

2014-2015 NBA thread
I'm really excited for Taj's growth, Mirotic, and McBuckets but the only way you don't do this trade is if you have an actual magical crystal ball that tells you McD becomes the best shooter in the NBA and Mirotic becomes Love but with better defense and likely less rebounding.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 11:04 PM) maybe he thought Vick's talent was worth it? this is a league that is basically win at all cost. There are a lot of f***ed up individuals that we cheer for every Sunday that coaches feel is worth the headache because of what they bring to the field. Clearly Dungy and 31 other coaches felt Sam doesnt have the talent to deal with everything that comes with him. Bears and Ravens had offers in place for Sam after the draft, so 29. And if Dungy hadn't been a supporter of Tebow who has been the all time distraction, it'd be different. But right now it seems the distraction is caused by people like Dungy.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 07:05 PM) Yep, turns out he did "The Super Bowl-winning coach "embraced" the stance of an Indiana organization supporting an amendment to the state constitution that would ban gay marriages, and he added Tuesday night at a gathering of the Indiana Family Institute that he's "on the Lord's side." "We're not trying to downgrade anyone else," said Dungy, coach of the Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts. "But we're trying to promote the family — family values the Lord's way," Dungy said. "IFI is saying what the Lord says. You can take that and make your decision on which way you want to be."" And he embraced Vick and Tebow, possibly the two biggest distractions of all time.
