  1. Eh, for all the flopping Griffin and CP3 do, it was karma.
  2. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 13, 2014 -> 09:17 PM) Seem's like Joe Borchard with less power. If the Sox draft anyone but a pitcher with the #3 pick, it will be a bad move IMO.
  3. QUOTE (oldsox @ May 13, 2014 -> 09:10 PM) The more I think about the reasons not tomdraft the top three pitchers, I feel like the Sox will fool a lot of us and might actually take a position player. Who is the best college hitter available in the draft? Bradley Zimmer, OF from San Francisco. Projected around the 10-15 area. Bradley Zimmer's Player Profile Hit / On-base – There is quite a bit of swing and miss to Zimmer’s game, but he has shown that he’s willing to work the count in his favor, though his on-base percentage is a bit skewed by being hit by 16 pitches over the year. Power – Right now Zimmer has only average raw power, but with his frame and his swing path I see the potential for above-average power, and potentially plus if everything is to go right. Speed – You don’t see very many 6-5 outfielders with plus speed, but Zimmer has it both in the outfield and on the bases. Glove – Zimmer has an absolute cannon of an arm (and has been clocked in the 90’s on the mound) and has the speed to play centerfield, but I think he profiles best as a right fielder at the next level, but a plus one. http://www.mymlbdraft.com/2014/mlb-draft-p.../Bradley-Zimmer So an athletic hitter with swing and miss issues. Give me a pitcher.

    2014 Films Thread

There's been a great fan theory for a while that the name "James Bond" is a code name associated with the agent ID "007", allowing Judi Dench to be M for multiple Bonds and keep somewhat of a continuity.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) Three nicknames for Abreu. Pito, which comes from his favorite uncle. Oso, the Spanish word for bear. Jose Daniel. His middle name is Dariel, not Daniel. And Hawk seems to like El Cañón
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 13, 2014 -> 02:53 PM) Micah Johnson and Nelvin Fuentes to Charlotte. David Cales activated from DL for BHAM. Charlotte roster is full again, and BHAM is at 24. Some things will need to give soon. Charlotte now has Sanchez, Saladino and Johnson in the middle infield. Davidson at 3B, and two 1B/Dh types in Wilkins/Black. That is a tight crowd to get all those people playing time. Then you have Keppinger coming back soon, which would seem to mean Garcia or Semien back to Charlotte - in which case it gets out of control. So what will give? What happens next? Also worth noting, this leaves a void in BHAM. They can have a filler guy there, but DeMichele doesn't appear ready to move up. My god that IF is clogged.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ May 13, 2014 -> 02:24 PM) Are invitations for those all set? I was hoping Mizzou'd max copeland would get an invite. He's trying to make it as a fullback. Finally, left guard-turned-fullback Max Copeland had talked to a couple teams and was weighing his options. Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/2014/05/10/50158...l#storylink=cpy Max is fun. We should look at him.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 13, 2014 -> 02:17 PM) Rodon is older. They pitch once a week. Frankly from what I've read, Kolek might not get hurt, he will get hurt. That's why I wouldn't take him with #3. If I was drafting a little lower in the first round, then maybe I would take a shot, but the Sox cannot miss with this pick. To me Kolek is like a 100 lb. overweight chainsmoker with high blood pressure and a family history of heart disease delaying taking his social security until he's 70. Sure, it might pay off, but it is probably not wise to think it will. There will be a future star available when they pick. Because he's big (muscular, not fat) and throws a fireball? What happens if he's a genetic freak that can hold up to that and they pass cause "he might get hurt."
  9. We should draft safe like McCulloch or Broadway.
  10. Has Mederios at #51. I'd take him if Reetz is gone.
  11. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 12, 2014 -> 06:10 PM) More faces, details, corrections made, plus since the White Sox got screwed on their OSFM minor leaguers, this Hybrid version will fix it by actually including prospects like Tim Anderson, Tyler Danish, Micah Johnson, and a few other big names that somehow were ignored by the random OSFM contributors to the Sox system. Ah, I'll delay starting until it's released. You said a few days, right?
  12. What's the difference between the OS Full Minors and OSFM Hybrid rosters?
  13. You know, for all the s*** he gets (and returns) at least J4L isn't afraid to say what he thinks.

    5/12 Games

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2014 -> 12:25 PM) We still don't know about Johnson's ultimate position defensively, and how much his stolen base technique will translate at the highest levels...his stolen base numbers are way down this year as he seemingly works on his all-around game. We also don't know about Danish's durability as a starter, as well as sustaining velocity and how he'll do at higher levels when he gets more heavily scouted. We don't know if Beck or Thompson will ever amount to much of anything. Until Rondon can put up a 725+ OPS in A ball, he can't be considered anything more than a utility prospect, like a Carlos Sanchez or Leury Garcia. Montas needs to pitch this well for 3+ months. One start, or two, does not a prospect make. If they were named Puig you would be heralding them as HOFs

    5/12 Games

QUOTE (fathom @ May 12, 2014 -> 11:46 AM) In true Mr. Pessimism form, this has been a bad year for Sox prospects. Two shocking busts so far this year in Davidson and E. Johnson. Meanwhile, M. Johnson and Danish are blowing expectations out the water and Hawkins looks to be improving while Montas and Rondon are also shocking surprises with ++tools (Fastball and God Tier defense, respectively)
  16. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 12, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) Sorry Greg but you aren't allowed to suggest that the owner spend more money. You jump at the chance to mention how expensive everything is at the baseball game nowadays but in the same token, you want the owner to spend more $$ on players. There is quite a disconnect here.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 12, 2014 -> 10:25 AM) I swear if Kolek is on the board and we pass for a next tier college arm, I will flip out. I dont' know what happens to Kolek but he is an extremely rare talent and we would be lucky to have a shot at drafting him (or really any of the top 3 guys to be frank). All of this.

    2014 TV thread

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2014 -> 07:54 AM) So the same actress as the movies, right? And it will all be set in the post-World War II period, from 1945-53? Yes to both.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. renewed for a second season and Agent Carter greenlit for a series, skipping the pilot.
  20. It'll be interesting to see who gets the bump when Sale returns amongst Rienzo, Carroll, and Noesi.
  21. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ May 12, 2014 -> 06:15 AM) Lets face it, the Sox have been run like a small market team and it reflects in the attendance figures,. How sad that a team in the 3rd largest market in the country had the second smallest crowd yesterday. Its amzing that in the long history of the team that they have never made the post season 2 years in a row. Party of the reason is lousy ownership down through the years from cheap Charles Comiskey to moneyless Bill Veeck to the current regime. Another big part of it is "America's Team" being in the same city.
  22. QUOTE (VAfan @ May 11, 2014 -> 01:26 PM) I think the odds of the Sox trading Ramirez this season are almost nil. 1. The Sox may be out of the AL Central race at some point, given the Tigers pitching, but they aren't likely to be out of the wildcard race at any point where a trade could still logically be made. 2. You don't trade a guy who's playing above his contract, where the Sox have no one who could come close to replacing his production, offensively OR defensively. To trade Ramirez, in other words, is to CREATE A HOLE, when the object of moves is to FILL HOLES. 3. Trading the Cuban would send a very bad message. The Sox have several Cubans now, and with Jose Contreras and El Duque, had several other Cubans recently. This is a plus for the team. We got Abreu for a bargain. Would he have signed with the Sox without that Cuban connection? Would Viciedo have signed? This would not be a good baseball move. The Sox aren't so poor that they need to unload Ramirez's contract. And it would be very bad for fan enthusiasm. It's really a HORRIBLE idea. 1. Fair 2. No...if you're rebuilding and said player is on the wrong side of 30, you trade him. Plus, the Sox have a lot of middle IF prospects. 3. No it wouldn't. They all know what happens when they sign the deals. If they traded him because he's Cuban, then yes, it'd send a bad message. The Cuban Connection existed long before Alexei. All that being said, I'd like to hold onto him because I think he'll age well.
  23. I have a feeling we're gonna have Hawk go on a TWTW rant today.
