  1. Eno is one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Wish I could make this.
  2. I'm disappointed. Sucks when, even in a lost season, you can't see your best player play in the AS game.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 02:30 PM) Well the article suggested you can get one loan per year. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 02:30 PM) Well one thing to point out is, you would only be able to acquire 1 player on loan (so it isn't as if you could acquire a new roster...just one guy). I do agree, that it would mean numerous stars trade hands. It could also be extremely exciting. Maybe you add an extra wrinkle that you could only do it every other year (which would further dilute what changes hands). The big wild card is what happens when an injury happens and well, lets be honest, they would happen. You also lose the ability to control the pitch counts, etc, of your player so they could run your pitcher into the ground and thus sets you back the following year. I would think this would be a major benefit for small market teams. While rebuilding, they might have a star player who they could leverage to gain more assets (and thus rebuild faster). When I first read the title I thought I would totally hate it, but when I read the restrictions put in place and fact that money wasn't really going to be the factor, it became far more intriguing. Yeah, I just don't see the issue with just trading for the guy, though. I don't know. I don't like the "feel" of it, I guess.
  4. I would absolutely hate this. Every playoff franchise would get a bunch of ringers every year, and it wouldn't even feel like it was the same franchise that actually got through the season in the first place. I understand that trades for pending free agents are kind of halfway there already, but as a fan, I can at least consider the rental player a "part of my team."
  5. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) Montas and Adams for Cruz. Get it done. Shut up, Kenny!
  6. I'd give up Avi for Bruce in a heartbeat before even considering the implications or direction of the team.
  7. Between warmups and the one inning of work he'll get, he'll throw maybe 40 pitches. Normal side session.
  8. WHERE ARE THE DINGERS?! I'm going to call it Dingerfest UNTIL I GET SOME DINGERS! The rest of you can call it SWEEPFEST! Tune in as this gentleman: Gets eaten by this gentleman: O/U -- Dingers, ever: 0.5
  9. I no longer believe there will ever be any dingers again, but I'm titling it Dingerfest again simply because we're on a winning streak. For those so inclined, pretend it says K-fest instead. A candid shot of both of tonight's probables together: O/U -- Combined team strikeouts: 15.5
  10. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) The title is wrong, Rodon has a 4.18 ERA and a 3.67 FIP My bad, I was glancing and accidentally used his projected ROS numbers.
  11. The dingers will come today. The ones that were meant for yesterday will be added to today's occurrences. vs. O/U -- Combined team dingers: 3.5
  12. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) Let's lock up Jeff in the offseason after trading him at peak value Fixed
  13. Jeff Sullivan ‏@based_ball 20h20 hours ago White Sox position players in July have been worth 0.0 WAR, which is the group's best month of the season
  14. We were not at all in the position to sign a mid-30's middle-rotation free agent starter at the time.
  15. I'd be shocked if the Cardinals take LaRoche. He's not hitting nearly well enough for them to be willing to pay him $12m next year when Matt Adams is back.
  16. Robin has "shaken" the lineup up so much that he has landed on a SABR-friendly Abreu to the 2-hole solution.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 10:16 AM) The ball was wet, It wasn't the greatest play, but he was pretty close to safe. It was a good throw. The tag was bad. Would have been interesting to see if the throw was off a bit. He might have been safe, or even out a larger margin. The only reason it was close was because the tag was horrendous, though. The ball beat him by a mile.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) Don't mean to be a downer, last night was fun, but Avi's turn for second was so awful. Everyone in the stadium knew he had no shot. How many hits has he inexplicably run into outs? What stat shows that story? FG has a UBR (Ultimate Base Runs) stat that takes that stuff into account. No idea how it's calculated, but I would guess it's based on the linear weight values between the two potential outcomes in the situation, like how many runs would be added by taking an extra base vs. standing pat or getting thrown out. FWIW, Avi in 2015 has been worth roughly negative five runs, or negative half a win.
  19. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) But, ya know, it's a manager's job to read his team, and help them stay confident. Just one of RVs endless failings. Wouldnt be expecting any kind of "spark" from a firing, but it's an essential start to the housecleaning. Of course Robin has to go - his players don't respond to him in any way that helps their performance. This is obvious. I don't how Eminor, DA, or any otherwise intelligent poster can defend him. What aspects of the job, exactly, do you think he's performing well in? Aw forget it. Rhetorical. The only real fear here is that a FO completely lacking in accountability keeps a terrible Mgr around for another year after this, knowing that RVs failure is theirs too, because they don't have the balls to admit it. I'm not defending him, I'm just frustrated that everyone has concluded that he is the issue and that firing him will solve the team's problems. I'm not saying he's good, I'm just saying I don't think he matters. or at least there's no evidence to suggest he's causing this team to play poorly.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 8, 2015 -> 10:27 AM) Dude, I am not saying I don't want Hoffman, you take the best player available, but my point is that the Sox should be targeting guys that can help on the offensive side. Our pitching rotation is in pretty good shape now and looking forward. I'm not sure I agree. I mean, I do agree that they need offense MORE than they need pitching, but the system is exactly loaded with surefire pitching prospects. 1. Sale 2. Quintana 3. Rodon 4. ??? 5. ??? Going forward, you have Fulmer who you feel really good about. Spencer Adams who you feel pretty good about, but it much more of a crapshoot. Erik Johnson is gravy at this point. Montas is still more likely a reliever than a starter. Next on that depth chart is Scott Carroll? JP Wendelken at some point? I don't know, I think we could really use Hoffman. We certainly don't have anything close to the depth to start looking away from pitching prospects when they're the best players offered,
