  1. Great article. Happy for him but I think our pitchers would really benefit from a high-end defender, even if he couldn’t hit at all. Unfortunately Narvaez seems to be the opposite.
  2. It was the same rules as international prospects from LA. He ended up getting like seven or eight million, I think. We couldn’t have given him that.
  3. RE: Shields Hated every second this guy was on the team. Didn’t like him as a player before he got here, didn’t like that we were pursuing him, didn’t like the trade to get him, and then he just blew every start he made while we were in contention. I know he was trying, but I don’t care that he managed to turn back into a 4.60 ERA back end starter when it didn’t matter. RE: Jones As disappointing as his health has been, there’s no point in bailing on the gamble they already made on his extension. It isn’t unlikely at all that he (or any reliever) can put together 40 healthy innings over a few months and make the whole thing worth it as trade bait
  4. But his point is that they can offer the 50mm anyway. The White Sox have about $14mm committed to next year’s roster. If you add all of the arbitration estimates, it goes up to $54mm according to Cot’s.
  5. Then click a different thread, man.
  6. Manny Machado isn’t the first player to dog it out of the box thinking he hit a homer. It happens like once every couple weeks. Manny Machado isn’t even CLOSE to the only slugger that doesn’t run out routine grounders. Robinson Cano hasn’t run out a grounder in his life. There’s probably one or two per team, on average, that won’t do it. Manny Machado isnt even remotely close to the only guy who has been known to slide hard into second base, which was something that was ENCOURAGED until about five years ago. Where’s the Chase Utley hate around here? And yes, while kicking Aguilars foot out of his way was a dick move, how does it even compare to intentionally drilling players with baseballs? How is CC Sabathia literally HERALDED for throwing at a guy on purpose two weeks ago and then obviously and openly taunting the other dugout to the extent that some people believe he actually boosted his hall of fame case, but Machado is not even fit to root for at this point? Why don’t we hate Joe Kelly? Remember how he threw at some guys head? Would anyone raise a ruckus if we acquired Joe Kelly? Remember when Zack Greinke beaned Carlos Quentin, taunted him, and then Carlos Quentin charged the mound and BROKE HIS FUCKING COLLARBONE? Do you hate Carlos Quentin now? Would you be upset if Greinke was on this team? This Machado stuff is so overblown, and honestly hypocritical. I can only blame the media and the hype of the postseason.
  7. I was strongly on the “Moncada to CF” train when we got him. But at this point, I’d rather him just focus on hitting. If necessity brings it up a couple years down the line, that’s ok.
  8. Well, I think the Dodgers being out is mostly just a logic thing. They already have Turner locked up for a while and Seager is coming back, so they really just don’t need him. Plus they are going to have to give Kershaw an extension, probably.
  9. You don’t move guys around for prospects that are still in single A. That’s it, guys.
  10. This. Even if you forgive the guy, you can’t look at the past few WS winners and think that bringing Guillen back is going to lead to a victory. For better or for worse, the teams that consistently produce MLB talent are doing it by being fiercely committed to a consistent approach and philosophy at every level. And that philosophy is dictated from the top.
  11. What is the point here? Are you trying to talk everyone into not being fans anymore? I don’t get it. We’re all frustrated about not winning. So what?
  12. Where is all this insanity about Avisail Garcia for Jon Gray coming from? Did I miss a really weird rumor or something? Why on earth would the Rockies EVER consider this?
  13. “Did (Machado) go outside the rules? Yeah. Did he kick Aguilar’s foot? Yeah. But is he dirty? Was he trying to hurt the guy? For me, the definition of dirty is when you’re trying to hurt a guy. I don’t think he was trying to hurt him. He was more trying to send a message to him like, ‘Get out of my way,’ which I understand. I don’t know if you can call that dirty. I’d just call that dumb,” said Pierzynski a-fucking-men
  14. Well extensions can happen at any time. You just won’t see guys change teams yet because they haven’t technically become free agents yet.
  15. But like you don’t need to be in those leagues to play. You can play for your school every year, and find a local “travel league” where you only play towns nearby for a fraction of that cost. And at some point you can play American Legion. Kids just have way more shit to choose from for entertainment. Every generation has had more than the last. Things wax and wane.
  16. I work in corporate sponsorship activation for a baseball team, and it’s extremely rare for a company to purchase tickets based on fandom/the state of the team — they’re used as sales tools or company benefits more often than not. While it’s possible that geographical interest can wane enough that the tickets become less desireable as benefits, the reality is that most buyers are interested because the product fits in their budget and with the scale of their distribution plans. For example, if you have 200 employees and want to invest in making them all feel like they get a special privilege for being a part of your company, buying four full season tickets in a spot that your average employee can’t afford, then treating them all to a night out on the company dime is a pretty cost-effective solution. In my experience (with three teams now), the level of success we’ve seen in corporate sales has been much more dependent on the quality of our sales force than the state of the team. I don’t think you’d be able to guage the success of that revenue stream anecdotally. It’s possible the White Sox could be very successful or very unsuccessful in that arena, completely regardless of how well the team is performing on the field. And no, the public never gets to see these numbers. Both understandably and unfortunately.
  17. Whoever distinguishes themselves early. That’s what I mean. There is space for everyone.
  18. We literally were not allowed to spend enough money to get them. I’m sure we would have had interest if we could have.
  19. That’s what I thought, I was about to go on a research expedition lol
