Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
thxfrthmmrs replied to Southwest Sider's topic in Pale Hose Talk
1. Does this give us a top 10 as it stands? I think we would be in the mid 20's before this trade. 2. I would have much preferred a Benintendi and Devers package over Moncada and Kopech, because a) would preferred two position player as headliners, b)the latter are bigger question marks, while the former may have a slightly lower ceiling, but they are much safer options. Anytime you're trading a superstar like Sale, you need to have surefire returns that's big league ready. I am not as sold on Moncada as I'm with Benintendi. -

The let's go buttcheeks chant tonight had me dead lol -
They are rebuilding. What rat's ass you give about them resigning Lawrie for $3.5M?
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 07:51 PM) I wish I had your confidence that re-signing last year's bad starters means that they are now placeholders. The only way signing Lawrie makes any sense to me is if they are moving he or Saladino to 3rd as, indeed, placeholders. Here were last year's mere placeholders: Jimmy Rollins: $2,000,000 Austin Jackson: $5,000,000 Dioner Navarro: $4,000,000 Mat Latos: $3,000,000 Matt Albers: $2,000,000 Jacob Turner: $1,500,000 Alex Avila: $2,500,000 Total $20,000,000 Anyone who criticizes such astuteness is clueless. What's new? Go to every roster and there were players that had years, add up their salary and viola! there's your list. Hindsight is 20/20. Some of those players were thought to be good gambles at that point to complement the core that we had.

The number of title changes is a head scratcher, but from the sound of it this rivalry is done with for a while. I think we're definitely getting a Sasha Bayley match for Rumble and maybe Mania. -

That Sasha Charlotte match was incredible to close out RAW. Even though she lost the title, I grew to like Charlotte a lot tonight, another great in ring performance and so much emotion at the end after the loss. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 16, 2016 -> 06:35 PM) Kate Upton tweeted "Hey MLB, I thought I was the only one allowed to f*** Justin Verlander" Two writers from Tampa didn't even have him on their ballot. Probably did not watch baseball in 2016

White Sox could be sick of Sale's antics

QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 7, 2016 -> 04:58 PM) Said one AL exec, who said he had knowledge of their thinking, "The last 327 fans of the team are really fed up with the skinny bastard." I like that you think the Sox actually have more than 300 fans left these days -
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 11:25 AM) Might be fun to make some predictions. I'll go ahead and say Collins is #52, Burdi is #73, Fulmer is #89. Historically speaking, BA likes to rank our guys in the back half of the 100, so I will say Collins 74 and Burdi 92.
-
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 8, 2016 -> 02:01 AM) They basically made it seem like Spencer Adams is a fringey top 100 guy, probably just misses it. So that likely means that Collins, Burdi, and Fulmer all make it, which probably isn't much of a surprise. I'll be surprised if Fulmer made it. I will Collins and Burdi will be in the 70-100 range.

Looks like they're retrying the Lesnar/Goldberg bit from last week. -
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Oct 31, 2016 -> 07:01 PM) 82-0 still intact I'm fine with 74-8.

It's hard to cut a face promo when your gimmick is "th boss". Agreed that she should turn heel. I also do not like that the Women's title has changed hand 4 times in the last 4 months. EDIT: the rivalry was better when Becky was involved. Becky is good as face, Charlotte is a good heel, Sasha to me is a tweener. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) Apparently Bauer wanted to burn his finger to stop the bleeding. That guy is crazy! He'd be wiser to burn his drones instead.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 08:48 AM) Tomlin and Bauer aren't any worse than any of the Royals SP from last year. Based on what? I'd debate that. Kluber is one of the best in the game right now, but there is a huge drop off after him. Kluber, Bauer and Tomlin is the worst trio out of all PO teams this year, and it's not that close. The latter two were also horrific post ASB and suddenly caught second wind in the postseason.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 10:59 PM) Pretty sure the Indians are the actual team of destiny here. Probably destined to get smacked by the Cubs. They reek of a team who comes up short on the final test, highly overachieving right now and winning too many close games. They've been more lucky than good if you ask me. I have not been following them closely, but on surface Tomlin and Bauer are absolutely not #2 and #3 PO starters. Even if Salazar comes back, he was horrific in the post ASB. Their OF and catcher position players are probably the worst in recent postseason memory. Bullpen is a question mark outside of Miller and Allen. That said, Miller is a real life video game player right now, easily cutting the game from 9 to 7 innings. Their defense plus timely offense has been incredible (only 3 players hitting above .230 in the postseason), let's see how long this could hold up (I'd like it to hold up for another 5 games).

With Kershaw only throwing 84 pitches tonight, you gotta think he's out there again for game 5 again.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 8, 2016 -> 12:16 AM) Rodon was the #3 pick in the draft and easily the most developed and dominant college pitcher in the draft. As it is, he has a ERA of 4 and a WHIP of 1.4 Is that development? What about the inability to develop anyone beyond Nate Jones in the pen? Or a #4 or #5 starter? What about not letting Junior Guerra pitch and then cutting him? Gonzales is 32 - he was not developed by Cooper. He stabilized Gonzalez into a solid #5. Throw a parade. The staff as a whole has been a little better than average at best, but mostly mediocre, for years. Cooper is a solid coach, but there is something to be said for some fresh thinking. I'm laughing at this... how does one develop a #4 or 5 starter? I think Q had the ceiling of a 4 or 5 in many's eyes but turned out better than that. In short, there aren't many pitchers who are long term #4 or 5 starters, you either improve or get replaced. Putting that blame on Cooper is asinine.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) Urias was on the table for Sale at the deadline. What do you think has changed since then? Urias had a 1.99 ERA in 40 innings in the second half, versus 4.95 ERA in the first half. He went from someone who may need more seasoning in the minors to someone who has earned a spot in the big league rotation. I think Dodger will still offer Urias for Sale, but not so much for Q, let alone a package featuring other top prospects, as suggested by OP.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 02:29 PM) The Dodgers get today. They don't have to wait a year or two, or maybe never to see if Urias hits on his talent. If they were pressured with winning today, they would have traded Urias for someone like Q back in July. Now Urias had a few months to prove himself, and Dodgers are growing comfort with him in the rotation. Also, there are other arms they can now sign that weren't available in July.

QUOTE (balfanman @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) Potential to be what Quintana already is does not mean he is worth more. They both have friendly contracts. You simply have to ask yourself if you would trade one for the other straight up. I would not trade Quintana for Urias straight up, the Dodgers would have to add something. Maybe not a lot of something, but something. Q is simply more proven. No, Urias is under control for 6 years I believe, a lot more team friendly situation even compared to Q. If I'm being honest with myself, I'd ask what is my biggest need right now if I'm the Dodgers. They probably need a 2 or a 3 right now, which they have the cash to go sign without losing a top prospect. They just need Urias to fill in as the 4th and 5th starter next season and soon enough he'll grow into that 2/3 they're missing. And if I'm rebuilding the Sox, I'd definitely take Urias for Q straight up.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) There is no doubt that Urias would be a starting point for a Q or Sale deal. There would have to be more. A lot more. There is no GM in MLB who will give you Urias for Q, let alone "a lot more". Despite what fWAR suggests, other teams do not see Q as a true ace, and that is what Urias would have to go for. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) As someone who follows the Dodgers, you have to realize certain ships have sailed. I know many people were advocating keeping Sale and Q thru this past season instead of trading them last offseason, but you have to realize, the prospects who you want have values that rise and fall. That's why if there's someone out there you want, you have to pounce. From the Dodgers, you are not getting Urias in a trade that doesn't equal Sale. They simply won't do it. He's under team control for a long time and is major league ready and already has showed success. De Leon, who I actually like better than Urias, can be had. For Q, you'd hope for a De Leon/Verdugo or De Leon/Puig swap. Again, for Q, you are not getting Urias. It simply will not happen. Exactly. You would not trade a top prospect who has already shown moderate success in the majors with a helium ceciling for another pitcher just because you "want" a more proven pitcher. I just don't know how much the dodgers are gaining from this. The ship for dealing Urias is gone, unless Dodgers are trying to pry a superstar away from another team.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) Urias hasn't proven much of anything at the MLB level. He is certainly not worth more than an established, young ace with team control in Quintana. Urias is ready to contribute and is entrenched in the Dodgers rotation, with team control for the next 6 years, that's where his value comes from. You can no longer say Quintana has the edge in team friendly contract. I wouldn't say a 1.40 ERA in the hitter friendly PCL league as a 19 year old, then pitching 80 innings in the big leagues earning a 2 WAR season, a fastball touching 95MPH, K/9 inning touching 10, again as 19 year old not proving anything. Is he an ace now? no. Is he better than Q next year, probably not. But there is no reason to think he isn't as soon as 2018. So why exactly would Dodgers pay a package featuring a stud along with other top prospects for Q? Also consider the fact that Q is tremendously under appreciated outside of the Sox org. No GM in history would ever do that deal.
-
Boston and LA aren't giving up that much for Sale and Quintana. If I'm a playoff team, I'd be concern with Sale since he has inevitably faded in the second half each of the past 4 years, and that's without throwing a single pitch in the playoffs. Urias has a chance to be something special, no reason to think he couldn't throw 160 innings next year. He's definitely MLB ready, so he's worth more than Quintana alone. There's only realistically 3-4 guys Dodgers would trade him for, and none of which are pitchers.
