2016 White Sox Opening Day Roster Predictions
thxfrthmmrs replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) Maybe I'm wrong about Shuck-I dunno. But here's what I got: Lineup (maybe not exactly) Eaton, Rollins, Abreu, Frazier, Cabrera, Garcia, Lawrie, Avila, Jackson Bench Saladino, Navarro, Shuck, Sands Rotation Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Latos, Danks Bullpen Albers, Jennings, Petricka, Putnam, Duke, Jones, Robertson Players that still need to be cut- Aumont, Carroll, Danish, Fulmer, Johnson, Kahnle, Lollis, Purke, Turner H Sanchez, Anderson, Davidson, L Garcia, Ishikawa, Lombardozzi, C Sanchez, Coats, May Ughh, that line up after Eaton and Abreu looks awful when it comes to getting on base. Hope that could bring on an LHH OBP guy who could play the OF, have Avi and Melky rotate DH. -
Official 2016 Soxtalk White Sox win total prediction thread
thxfrthmmrs replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
80 wins, though I think they will finish just 3-4 games out from Wild Card spots and about the same for the Division. There just isn't a lot of disparity top to bottom in the AL. -
QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) So now Rousey didn't try to take Holm down? That's funny because she obviously did try to take her down and she failed. I think she got Holm down once but that didn't last long. One time Holm actually pushed Rousey off of her. She's a world class judo player but judo isn't always the greatest at getting takedowns in MMA, especially against a capable opponent. She did attempt twice IIRC. But for the first 3 minutes or so, she kept trying to stand up with Holm, and didn't attempt a takedown until she got rocked a couple of times. Find me another fight where Rousey did not attempt a takedown that late into the fight.
-
QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 7, 2016 -> 10:15 AM) Why would Rousey with her elementary level boxing think she could be Holm at her own game? Rousey finally went up against a fighter who wasn't going to engage Rousey and get thrown like a rag doll. Most of Rousey's opponents were complete tomato cans. Holm even pushed Rousey off of a clinch at one point. All he takedowns were basically throws against clueless fighters. If Tate is able to avoid being taken down the she will pick Rousey apart too. I am of the belief that a great mix martial artist would beat a great boxer anyday. UFC 196 reminded us of that to some extent. If you want to play the what-if scenarios, then if Tate could take Holm down multiple times and submit her on the ground, then Rousey should be able to do the same if she tried to. The question headed into the Rousey/Holm fight was how well could Holm defend the takedown and submissions. The Tate/Holm fight answered that question.
-
People are putting too much into that Rousey and Holm fight. It's pretty evident that Rousey has tore up the division and she wanted to challenge herself further by beating a world class boxer at her own game. It backfired big time for her. If you watched that fight, you'd see that that wasn't the same Ronda Rousey we saw before. I have no doubt that Rousey would destroy Holm in the first round if she focuses on what she does best the next time they fight.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 6, 2016 -> 12:15 AM) That wasn't his s*** ground game. Dude was wobbled as f*** for a full minute after one punch. He barely knew where he was. He was about to get ktfo'd and had no choice but to go to the groud as a last ditch effort. He was done regardless, wasn't protecting himself at all. I've seen people who been rocked much harder and still managed to pull guard and protect themselves on the ground. Conor has never been tested on the ground and he shown little knowledge of defending down there, it was exposed tonight.
-
Conor is a hype train. Great striker met who his match, out grappled on the ground by a guy who has much better jiu jitsu. That Holm v Tate fight was also amazing. Miesha is a much better fighter than people give her credit for.

QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Mar 3, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) If I remember correctly from his days with the Rangers... he is pretty terrible. Hey, so was Hector Noesi.
-
Latos is no slim dude, but Hawkins made him look at least 2 sizes smaller.
-
Given the tough competition in the AL. How many wins it takes to win the Central? 86? 88?

So this pretty much rules out this being Taker's last match? I can't see his last match being forced into a match with Shane. Also, it would make sense to predict Shane to win this, because I also can't see this being a clean win for him. -

I'm holding out hopes that this would lead to an Ambrose Reigns title feud after Mania, and Seth gets in the picture as well when he returns. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 20, 2016 -> 06:55 PM) That one's easy. No one thinks the 2007 Patriots are the best team of all time, yet they're the only 16-0 regular season in the NFL. Right, and if the Warriors end up at 71-11 or even tie 72-10 and win the championship, most would still consider 95-96 Bulls to be the GOAT. To be considered as the GOAT team definitively, they'd at least have to both break the record and win it out. I am in the camp that believes there's a champion crowned every season, but the record for most wins is the more exclusive honor. JVG basically said the similar thing last night after the Clippers game. There's no reason they shouldn't go for it if they are in position to do so at the season's end.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 20, 2016 -> 08:13 AM) 25 out of 29 is still a 70 win pace. Obviously they could do it, but it won't be easy. It will be interesting to see if they are right on the record, how important it is for them to break it in the end. Or do they just make it a priority to be in the best shape possible for the playoffs. It could be that they are so good, like those Bulls teams, where it doesn't matter if your guys are rested for the playoffs. Is anyone going to beat them 4 times? Not as long as their top guys are playing. They are a young team with a bunch of competitive players. Listening to Steph's interviews, he had his sight set on the record since the early parts of the season. And the fact that they are young and the core players are durable for the most part could mean that resting down the stretch is less important than for a team like the Spurs. The debate that could become interesting is, would 73 wins and the record of most wins of all time be more important and a more impressive feat than back to back titles? And that's not to say that they couldn't repeat if they get less rest down the stretch.

Even with their loss last night, Warriors only have to go to 25-4 to break the Bulls' record. Fairly doable if they could stay healthy.

QUOTE (ozzfest @ Feb 18, 2016 -> 09:54 PM) I'm wondering if you still stand by the below exchange? QUOTE (ozzfest @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 11:39 AM) * Front office rankings in Chicago (in terms of which teams have the best chance to win it all). Which is how a front office should be judged. 1) Blackhawks 2) Cubs 3) Bears 4) White Sox 5) Bulls Quinarvy : "Lol. Bears should be fifth and Bulls second." You'd been banned a long time ago in plenty other forums. Stop taking your frustration of the FO on other posters. If your intention is to get other's approval of your opinion (which seems to be the case), do yourself a favor and just stop. If you want to have Garpax fired, maybe start a petition or write JR a fan mail. Constant negative posts on the internet isn't going to accomplish anything.

Please no Okafor, just no. He's a volume player, empty carbs. Puts up numbers, but not gonna help you win, especially in today's NBA.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 08:37 PM) Carmelo looks so fat and lazy out there. Kevin Hart could go out there and get 20. Heck if they give me free layups like the one they just gave Wade, I could even sniff double digits.

How could anyone watch this crap? Why would anyone pay $500 a ticket to watch this live when it's not even real basketball. This is worse than the pickup games at my gym. No one is even trying.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) Wasn't all of Guerrero's power the first few months? Seemed he had ten homers early and just fell off a cliff. Right. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because of his Cuban track record, but if he does provide more power than Avi, it isn't by a whole lot.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) Is every outfielder with a flaw Viciedo or Garcia now? I would be a lot more comfortable the roster as currently constructed if Avi had the ISO power Guerrero showed off the bench last year. Players who do not have a good approach at the plate and are huge defensive liabilities, that Viciedo and Avi for us. Guerrero fits into that category. As previously mentioned, Avi is younger and still getting stronger. While Guerrero has more power at this point, he still doesn't solve our issues of OBP and outfield defense.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 02:22 PM) Why would Philly rely on Embiid coming back? Even if Embiid doesn't come back, they eventually need to break up Okafor and Noel. They just aren't a good fit next to each other from I what saw earlier this year.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 01:14 PM) I agree on all counts. Getting a star is the key (in short-term) and to me that is much easier to do via FA than draft (given where Bulls stand). I wonder if Bulls can swing a deal with Sixers for Nerlens. There are young players out there who might be on the block. Nerlens Noel is the guy I wanted all along. I don't think Noel is a good fit next to Okafor, and if Embiid comes back next year, they'd have a logjam of poor spacing. I wonder if Noel could be had for Niko + first rounder. Noel would be a good fit next to Gasol and Portis.

The NL version of Avi Garcia.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 03:26 PM) Everyone seems to forget that Derrick used to play through everything. Then he got hurt. He got mind-f***ed by those injuries. In one of the promos he did for Adidas after his first injury, he famously said he'll die on the court for basketball. That's D Rose in his previous life.
