  1. QUOTE (FT35 @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) Since we don't know how prospects will fare in the big leagues (or if they will ever make it up), this info shows what similarly ranked prospects have turned out to be as major league players. We don't know how Reynaldo Lopez will do over time...but we do know that Carlos Martinez was once ranked #38 on this list and he turned out to be a solid pitcher with the Cardinals. Not directly comparing Lopez to Carlos Martinez, but it's a idea of the type of player someone who is ranked #38 could turn into as a major leaguer. Obviously there are plenty of outliners, but looking at each sample list, there are at least a couple of really good names and a couple of duds. So if our 6 follows a similar pattern, we could have a similar result. I get what you're trying to do, but you confused yourself when you used MLB rankings and called it BA Top 100 rankings, then compared the rankings to historic BA rankings. You have to take into account that prospects rank very differently across publications, depending how their staff evaluates prospect tools and performances. Take Chris Carter example. He was ranked #11 by Baseball Prospectus in 2010 and #30 (despite having a poor showing in 2010) in 2011, while only ranked #28 and 90 in those two years by BA. So if you want to use current MLB rankings, a fair comparison is historic MLB rankings, not Baseball America's.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) Current mlb.com rankings. I expect Kopech to rise a bit. Lopez to stay about the same. Moncada will still be top 3. Giolito will drop into teens, most likely. My guess is Collins is closer to 50 than 80. So the OP did a benchmark of current MLB rankings against historic BA Top 100 rankings? It still doesn't make sense.
  3. Not sure where you got your rankings from, but those ranks will change quite a bit when the official list drops next month.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 05:32 PM) Yes. Pax talks about the lack of athleticism, and they can't shoot threes? Hoiberg sucks, but the problem goes higher up the flag pole. GarPax has already brought you Vinnie Del Negro and Hoiberg. I think if a new coach is the plan, it might be a good idea to let someone else make the decision, after all the coach they did pick who won coach of the year, they didn't like. If Hoiberg is let go, I don't expect the next coach they bring in to last long. The team has no identity, they're not great offensively or defensively. They're not contending or rebuilding. They're just a bunch of ill-fitting players wearing the same colored uniform. Heck, you can bring in Popovich and they still won't get past the second round. Unfortunately in the NBA there is no easy way to get out of mediocrity. We could sit here and hope Wade does not opt out and against all odds recruits Blake Griffin to the Bulls this off season. Even then, we're still missing a piece or two. It's time to start preparing for the rebuild. How fast/well they can rebuild all depends the brain power of the FO. I don't even trust the brains of GarPax enough to manage my fantasy team, let alone rebuilding the team.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) 670 The Score ‏@670TheScore 36m36 minutes ago Report: Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg is on the hot seat. http://cbsloc.al/2imrm1W While I do think we can do better than Hoiberg, we're right about where I thought this roster would take us. More people should be on the hot seat, but it's the Bulls and Reinsdorf.
  6. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) O posted this in the other thread, but the Sox could offer (theoretically) Quintana + Moncada + Giolito + One more of our top prospects (Kopech/Lopez/Collins) For Trout 25 year old Mantle is enticing, but the risk he gets hurt and the deal blows up on you is too high. A big NO from me. It's one player, who cost $120M for the next 4 years. You essentially give up Q, Sale, and Eaton, who are all on affordable contracts just to get him.
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 06:28 AM) I'm calling Cena gets #16 at Rumble in front of 70,000. It reminds me of when Rock beat Punk because they wanted Rock vs Cena 2 at Mania for title. I think they want Cena vs Taker for title at Mania 33. Just a gut feeling. I could see that, but I think there's a higher chance it would be a Triple Threat between the 3 at WM. There isn't anyone else on the SD roster could deserves to face AJ at WM if he's left out of the SD main event. (Unless they call up Joe or Nakamura, reviving their feuds at TNA and NJPW)
  8. QUOTE (brett05 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 08:50 AM) I went both nights. The best part was taking my daughters for their first. They loved it. My ten year old made her own chant....New Day Rocks and Snowcones. Was pretty cute. The crowd is mental chanting for CM Punk. We countered with "He's a Quitter!" Stephanie nailed the CM Punk chanters with her comment. Cena got more cheers than boos both nights. (Raw during return promos). Braun was the whole Raw entertainment. And that was better than Smackdown. Baron Corbin can't wrestle or do two punches without a prolonged break. He gets winded too fast. That was one of the worst matches I had ever seen. The tag title change was super weak too. But man does the Chicago crown love Randy Orton. I felt the same way about the tag titles. I don't like how they handled those belts the past few weeks. I get that they want to build up Bray so it was the right move to have them take the belts. But Slater and Rhyno were pretty over at the time, so just have them bend over and give up the belts without much of a fight was weak and just destroyed those two. Then you strip Wyatts of the belt after 3 weeks, and have one of your top superstars in the past 15 years pinned after just one German is also a weak finish.
  9. Cena loses to AJ in RR, then one last rematch for Cena (title vs career or whatever) at WM and Cena wins his 16th title. I'm calling it.
  10. It was awesome when the crowd boo'd when Cena tried to start a Go Cubs Go chant. Guessing we got some Sox fans at SD tonight
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 24, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) Todd Frazier on the open market would get how much per year? If EE is a $20 million player, Frazier is probably in the $12 to 15 million range, tops? His arb estimate this year is $13.5 million. He is a one dimensional hitter, who had by far his worst year defensively. He put up big negatives in UZR and Range factor. He even put up a Dwar that was negative by two wins. That would make him a one dimensional player. I think you know that UZR could be extremely volatile from year to year. Since he had a positive UZR for the past 4 years at 3B, and based on my eye test, he still fairly capable defensively at 3B, I think it's very likely he'd have a bounce back year next season, at least from a defensive metrics stand point.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:36 PM) The problem is those guys have about zero surplus value. I don't think teams operate solely under surplus value philosophy (let's get into the Shelby Miller trade). The marginal upgrade they get in return plays a bigger role IMO. Take Robertson for example, closers rarely have any surplus value, but there are always teams in the market for them. Robertson may as well be the best closer available right now. If I am a contending team and in need of a closer, I'd give Robertson a serious look. For Frazier, while he certainly has surplus value, there are also teams who do not take WAR as a bible, and the 35 HR power, the above average defense he could play at third, and his locker room presence fits many needs for them.
  13. The guys I want to trade NOW are Melky, Frazier, and Robertson. While they may have more of a market in July, their trade value won't be significantly higher. I don't think it's far fetched that each of these guys could get you at least 2 Top 10-20 prospects from other team's system. I'd much rather see us take this route then give the open spots to reclamation projects than roll out serviceable veterans who aren't part of the long term plan. Last thing we need is to finish in the 6-10 range again and settle for a 2nd tier prospect in the next draft. One guy I think we can sign and potentially flip at the deadline is Michael Saunders. Perhaps we can get him for 1/$10M deal (though there is a solid market for him right now). Luke Hochevar and Nick Hundley could be worth the gamble for short term deals as well. Grant Green is another guy who's a former top prospect, .300 hitter his entire minor league career. Ruby De La Rosa is a hard thrower, who could start or develop into a strong setup man. Start season with C - Narvaez/Hundley 1B - Abreu/Davidson 2B - Lawrie/Sanchez SS - Anderson/Sanchez 3B - Saladino/Davidson/Grant Green LF - Saunders/Green CF - Tilson/Lirano RF - Liriano/Avi DH - Avi/Green Rotation 1. Rodon 2. Shields 3. Migo 4. Holland 5. De La Rosa/Lopez This team should not win you a lot of games. If we end up winning more, that most likely means we hit homeruns with several of these guys. Come July, I think we should see significantly bigger market for Abreu, Jones, Holland and maybe even Lawrie.
  14. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 03:34 PM) Total pipe dream here = That farm system would be absolutely locked and loaded to compete in the next few years Add in some other shrewd moves and/or free agent signings and you are looking at a playoff team if things go well 1) Rodon 2) Glasnow 3) Giolito 4) Kopech 5) Lopez Pen arm possibilities (or other starters): Burdi, Dunning, Stephens, Adams, Fulmer, Hansen, Clark, Cooper C- Collins (fingers crossed) 1B - Bell 2B - Moncada and/or Newman SS - Anderson 3B - MACHADO OF- Meadows OF- Basabe OF- BEER DH - ABREU As a Sox fan you can dream of a scenario like this... That roster projection is totally loaded Banking on all your top prospects to pan out is a fun but dangerous proposition.
  15. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 06:49 PM) He's always looked out of shape to me. I expect improvement in his stats this year, but I don't know if he can ever be an ace if he doesn't focus more on his body. Have you seen CC or Bartolo Colon lately?
  16. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) .310 BA, .330 OBP, .471 SLG, 17 HRs, 37 2Bs, 8 3Bs, 103 runs, 23 SBs. Yep. I came in here to be the party pooper and put up some turd of a slash line, and instead I turned him into a borderline superstar. With defense like last year, what's this, 6 WAR or so? Well, optimism's kinda fun. Very similar to what I expected from Gordon Beckham heading into his second year (except slightly more power and less speed). I know where that optimism has gotten me with our positional players
  17. QUOTE (striker @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) I love bouncing my trade ideas off of Dave Cameron. From the chat today... Striker 12:36 Quintana and Jones for Glasnow, Meadows, Bell and Keller Dave Cameron 12:36 Probably too rich for PIT, but interesting. Jones is worth a lot, so maybe that's not so far off. LOL. I'd be happy to get Meadows, Bell and Keller for Q. If we throw in Jones we get Glasnow? Sign me up!
  18. Yes, Houston please pony up. I wanna see a Sale vs Q battle in the ALCS.
  19. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 18, 2016 -> 05:01 PM) 31 starts 4.89 ERA 176 IP 129 K 155 BB 38 HR 1 CG 2 SO 14 QS Your turn I mean anyone who would allow 155 walks in a season has no business pitching in the big leagues.
  20. I don't even think Giolito should fall that far, especially if you're in the camp that believes Coop could correct the tinkering Nats tried on Giolito's mechanics last season and help him develop into a better pitcher going forward.
  21. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) They measure the farm by going at least 20 deep. The Sox drafting has been consistently below par for years, although some argue it's been better recently and perhaps it has been (last year's draft may turn out a lot better than usual, but the drafting still displayed a lot of Hahn/Williams ongoing bad habits). They also short-shrift the international market and were more than willing to throw in their top international prospect when the Padres were just looking to salary dump James Shields. That kind of nonsense has to be corrected or the Sox will rebuild for 10 years. But or now, a top 8 or so system I'd say and the top 10 is in the top 3 or 4. If we gut out the big league club (Q, Frazier, Abreu, Jones, Robertson, Melky), we'd have 10-11 guys in the Top 100, with 2 of the likely Top 5 (and Fulmer, Adams, and Burdi are firmly in the 100-150 range). While Frazier, Robertson and Melky will not likely to haul in any Top 100 prospects, our return would likely be a number of quality prospects from other org's top 10-20 list. When the dusts settles, the homegrown guys like Hawkins, May, Barnum, and Adolfo would not even crack our Top 30. Seriously, how many far systems in the past 10 years carry that kind of top end talent and depth? That's why if we don't end up with the best farm after trading all of those guys, I might just stop following this team.
  22. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 03:34 PM) I'd be pretty disappointed if we weren't top 2 after all those players were moved. I'll be VERY disappointed if we don't have THE best farm in baseball, after getting 5-6more Top 100 talents and a few more lottery tickets.
  23. I looked at his 2016 Indy league stats and they definitely weren't MVP worthy... I then finally clicked on the link and learned that he's only the Indy league ASG MVP
  24. Soo.. is Beer the second coming of Bryce Harper? What's all the hype about?
  25. Maybe Rollins and Reigns, but none of these guys need the tag belts.
