Yordano Ventura, Andy Marte both killed in separate car accidents

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) What are the numbers of DUI deaths in other sports? And it's not their responsibility based on what other than your opinion? Other sports do not have a high number of LatAm players like baseball. As others mentioned, driving in DR is completely different. -

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 10:35 AM) Not to turn this political or anything but someone needs to educate the young Latin players on being safe. I know its hard to expect maturity out of early twenty year olds but this is getting ridiculous. How? No idea but I am tired and sad of hearing about these young kids getting killed because of drugs and recklessness. I don't blame these guys since they probably came from nothing and have the world by the balls now. I did some really stupid stuff when I was in my early twenties. Still, how many more deaths will happen before solutions will be discussed? I never liked Ventura but this is depressing. My Royals friends are besides themselves right now You have to understand that these people grew up in LatAm and were in their country during the time of the crash. From what my friends have told me, DUI is nowhere as heavily regulated as is in America. I even have a friend from Puerto Rico who told me that he had crashed into a light post while DUI when he was living in PR and the police came and just drove him home without giving him a ticket. There are many, many DUI cases in LatAm, unfortunately these people just happened to be baseball players. Their countries needs to heighten the regulation for DUI if they want to keep the roads safe for everyone. There is not much MLB can do about this. Hopefully the LatAm players take these accidents to heart and think again before they DUI back in LatAm. -
Not a Typical Rebuild According to White Sox
thxfrthmmrs replied to Thomas_Ventura_Roberts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If they want to "retool" not rebuild then F them. But yea, this is a PR answer based on the state of the franchise. We will know by the end of the off season how competitive we will be next season. Still expect a couple more vets to be traded, in which case would make it hard for us not to lose. -

I'm not too big on Finn for now. He's a great worker and has a good gimmick, but he's barely spend any time on the main roster and already won the Universal belt once. He's still got some room to improve on the mic and could use some time to establish himself on the main roster. I'd rather see the new guys come up establish themselves organically first before being pushed, unless you're AJ Styles and are head and shoulders better than everyone else on Smackdown. -

So who do you guys want to win the Rumble, and who do you think actually wins? Personally, I'd like Owens to retain against Reigns and Sami winning the Rumble match. Had they give Sami a better push, it'd set up a great match between him and Owens at WM. But realistically I think we will see either Taker, Jericho, or Finn (making a surprise entry) winning it. I just don't see a whole lot of possibilities here. Lesnar and Goldberg will get each other at WM, so they're out of the picture. Braun isn't ready to main event WM (though his chances increases if Reigns beats Owens), and Rollins will get Triple H at WM, and WWE has passed on him getting the belt way too many times since his comeback so I doubt they let him win this year. Most of the wrestling world is making the Taker prediction, and in this day and age, if your Rumble match results are this predictable (and the person winning isn't deserving - all due respect to Taker, he can't be the champ if he can't wrestle more than 2 matches a year), it does not sit well with the fans, especially the smarks. If Taker wins, I'd expect a lot of boos. Edit: I can see Miz being a dark horse pick from Smackdown. He's had a great year, would be great on the mic doing promos with Cena in weeks leading up to WM. Him losing to Ambrose in their IC match, then winning Rumble to go on to face Cena at WM, and Cena putting him over. That would be much better than Taker winning IMO. -
QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Jan 14, 2017 -> 03:12 AM) As if we're going to compete with the Cubs in the next 3 years. Who cares about some stupid stigma. It's widely believed that Reinsdorf doesn't want to trade with the Cubs. That's why you haven't heard Cubs involved in the Sales or Q trade talks.
-
Q to Cubs is what I want as well. Jimenez, Happ, Cease, Candelario, and Chesny Young for Q, Robertson and $8 M. I think this is a great trade for both sides, it's a shame because there seems to be a stigma for trading with the Cubs these days.
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) Pretty sure the Sox are looking for at least three players in a trade. Although if Bridich calls up Hahn and offers "Rodgers + Dahl for Quintana" I would pack Q's bag and drive him to the airport Rockies fans would be pretty furious. No mlb team could be a Dahl/Rodgers offer unless teams opened up the whole farm for the sox It's actually light on the Rockies side. I'd take a lotto ticket or two. Dahl is likely ranked around 20th had he qualified, Rodgers is 10th. Considering Sale got us a top 5 and 22nd prospect and two more guys, and even then some think we could've gotten more, only Dahl and Rodgers for Q is a bit light. There's also a certain team that traded Swanson, Inciarte and another top 50 guy for Shelby Miller, who is less valuable than Q. Not saying that's the blue print, but just to give an idea of Q's value here.
-
Good to see teams coming back in. So.. is Arizona looking to get another starter? We have a pretty good one to trade and I know they have the balls.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 09:12 PM) Saladino, Lawrie and Sanchez are all better options than Micah.Do you remember how much of a butcher Micah was at second? Beyond horrible, the stuff nightmares are made of. We're talking some seriously f***ing bad joojoo on Micah's glove and defensive footwork. The team that just DFA'd Micah is looking for a 2B. What does that tell ya? The team that DFA'd him is looking to win the World Series. We are in a place where we should take on a reclamation projects (I honestly think he's one of the best reclamation projects left in the market), playing guys like Sanchez or Leury who has not projections left is not going to help this franchise. If Micah flopped, then more L for us. If he turns it around offensively or defensively, we could get something out of him down the road.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 07:03 PM) Give me Saladino over Johnson and, as backups, give me Leury and Sanchez over Johnson since they can both play more than 1 position. The only way Johnson would make sense is if you've moved both Frazier and Lawrie, leaving 2 gaps open for tryouts. Leury and Sanchez had way too many chances, they will be career backups or AAAA players, and they won't be backups for our next playoff team. Micah only has 100 AB's or so in the big leagues, way too early to write him off, and IIRC he's a notoriously slow starter and takes a while to adjust to the league level. With him, at least if you give him a season to prove himself, he might turn out to be something you can get value out of.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 03:06 PM) Paulo Orlando spent seven seasons in the minors. Chris Carter is awful. Chris Young had one good year and would be ripped alive here for the entire span of his career. If we're counting those guys, then we might as well count Semien, Viciedo, Trayce, Beckham, etc. My point isn't that these are great players, but rather we could not develop hitters and some players have seemingly gotten better after they left our org. In fact, as unspectacular as Chris Young has been, I believe he has the highest WAR of any position prospects that were drafted or signed by us in the last 15 years.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) Yeah, that's probably a good call. And beyond our organization's weakness with development, Micker has lost a ton of time due to injuries. Regardless, it still makes me sick seeing those other two names shoot up the rankings while Adalfo's prospect status sours. It sucks, but what's new? This franchise has been cursed in developing hitters. We have not developed one single position player in the last 16 years. It's really an incredible feat when you come to think about it and how many good hitters has played in the MLB in that time span, and none of those were developed by the Sox. It also hurts to see some of our mid tier prospects got traded away and found success with another org, guys like Chris Young, Chris Carter, and Paulo Orlando, maybe we'll even be sour with Tatis Jr. a few years down the road.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 11:01 PM) I absolutely love this signing. He's young and full of potential. No thanks. He's terrible at everything except for base stealing. Speed will decline as he turns 30. He could seriously make Jimmy Rollins look like Carlos Correa.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 06:29 PM) I really liked Omega-Okada(Kenny is a madman) but the first half of it was really slow. It was a great match but there's been better imo just in this past year let alone of all time. I respect Meltzer a lot and he's the best at what he does but despite what he says it certainly does seem like he has some sort of bias towards stuff in Japan. And I think Kenny just knows how to build his brand. I have no problem continuing to watch him do his thing in NJPW but I'm sure if WWE made him the right offer he'd jump. Rumor has it that WWE has made him several offers already. Omega is a quirky dude, doesn't seem like he's after the money, and he LOVES Japan, so I don't see him jumping to WWE anytime soon, which most people are fine with. -
Moncada #2 in top prospect poll of GMs/Exec's
thxfrthmmrs replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What I want to know is how Moncada after coming off 2016 would fare in a top prospects list from years past. This year's list is kind of meh for me, Benintendi, Swanson and Torres are high-floor prospects, projected to be solid to great players, not superstars. In fact, Moncada might be the only MVP ceiling player from that group. -
QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) Are you suggesting Giannis is undeserving? QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 04:08 PM) Giannis is 2nd in the leauge in PER, behind Westbrook. No idea how / where Westbrook is on this list? Giannis is totally deserving. Embiid is an all star, but probably shouldn't be that high. Jimmy 6th actually seems relatively reasonable to me, although I don't have Love & Melo ahead of him, but Durant/Westbrook/Harden should be ahead of Butler and Steph arguably could be as well. By the way, that is purely from an all star perspective and who is deserving based upon production (not at all going who is the better player). I think Giannis is deserving, my vote for East front court would be Lebron, Giannis, then Jimmy. Giannis is having a great season, but he has over 500k votes right now playing in one of the smallest markets in the league, while Jimmy only has 190K, playing for the team that leads the league in attendance. The margin shouldn't be that wide. EDIT: what I listed was East front court votings only, these players you mentioned all have over 500k votes, again suggesting that Jimmy doesn't get a lot of love around the league.
-
First return for the all star ballot and Jimmy is only 6th, behind Lebron, Giannis, Embiid, Love and Melo. Are Giannis and Embiid getting a lot of votes from their home countries like Zaza?

How our current top 100 prospects match up with past years
thxfrthmmrs replied to FT35's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (FT35 @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) Since we don't know how prospects will fare in the big leagues (or if they will ever make it up), this info shows what similarly ranked prospects have turned out to be as major league players. We don't know how Reynaldo Lopez will do over time...but we do know that Carlos Martinez was once ranked #38 on this list and he turned out to be a solid pitcher with the Cardinals. Not directly comparing Lopez to Carlos Martinez, but it's a idea of the type of player someone who is ranked #38 could turn into as a major leaguer. Obviously there are plenty of outliners, but looking at each sample list, there are at least a couple of really good names and a couple of duds. So if our 6 follows a similar pattern, we could have a similar result. I get what you're trying to do, but you confused yourself when you used MLB rankings and called it BA Top 100 rankings, then compared the rankings to historic BA rankings. You have to take into account that prospects rank very differently across publications, depending how their staff evaluates prospect tools and performances. Take Chris Carter example. He was ranked #11 by Baseball Prospectus in 2010 and #30 (despite having a poor showing in 2010) in 2011, while only ranked #28 and 90 in those two years by BA. So if you want to use current MLB rankings, a fair comparison is historic MLB rankings, not Baseball America's. -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) Current mlb.com rankings. I expect Kopech to rise a bit. Lopez to stay about the same. Moncada will still be top 3. Giolito will drop into teens, most likely. My guess is Collins is closer to 50 than 80. So the OP did a benchmark of current MLB rankings against historic BA Top 100 rankings? It still doesn't make sense. -

Not sure where you got your rankings from, but those ranks will change quite a bit when the official list drops next month. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 05:32 PM) Yes. Pax talks about the lack of athleticism, and they can't shoot threes? Hoiberg sucks, but the problem goes higher up the flag pole. GarPax has already brought you Vinnie Del Negro and Hoiberg. I think if a new coach is the plan, it might be a good idea to let someone else make the decision, after all the coach they did pick who won coach of the year, they didn't like. If Hoiberg is let go, I don't expect the next coach they bring in to last long. The team has no identity, they're not great offensively or defensively. They're not contending or rebuilding. They're just a bunch of ill-fitting players wearing the same colored uniform. Heck, you can bring in Popovich and they still won't get past the second round. Unfortunately in the NBA there is no easy way to get out of mediocrity. We could sit here and hope Wade does not opt out and against all odds recruits Blake Griffin to the Bulls this off season. Even then, we're still missing a piece or two. It's time to start preparing for the rebuild. How fast/well they can rebuild all depends the brain power of the FO. I don't even trust the brains of GarPax enough to manage my fantasy team, let alone rebuilding the team.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 30, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) 670 The Score @670TheScore 36m36 minutes ago Report: Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg is on the hot seat. http://cbsloc.al/2imrm1W While I do think we can do better than Hoiberg, we're right about where I thought this roster would take us. More people should be on the hot seat, but it's the Bulls and Reinsdorf.
