Rodon looked good besides the obvious pitch around to Encarnacion

QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 11:04 AM) Out of the two I think I might like this Davis kid a bit more. Big lefty with a decent fastball who's throws strikes. Looks like he's had some bad luck this year but I hope they give him a chance to start. Looking at him I see closer. Let him focus on fastball/slider and ramping it up with that big fastball 1 inning at a time

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 09:28 AM) But we gave up second best hitter on the team. Team morale gotta be sinking fast. Hopefully we will be able to draft the second best hitter on our next world series team after this year

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) BA had Puckett 5th heading into year (not top 10 mid season). Fangraphs had Puckett 6th preseason Seems like he has a real shot to be a decent mid rotation starter. I like everything I've read and his K numbers are pretty good in advanced A
-
Could be useful for a team that wants another lefty in the pen. Always nice to have a guy in the playoffs that can go several innings rather than burning your top pen arms
-
All in all I think this is a solid get for Melky, Puckett seems like a good bet to make the majors in the next year or two in some sort of capacity and any lefty that throws mid 90s is worth taking a shot on
-
Davis might be a guy who benefits from being moved to the 'pen
-
Pucket apparently is a guy that might be useful. MLB.com bio says 90-94 on the fastball with sink and a plus change, high pitching IQ ~#4 starter
-
I haven't really read that he is a "free swinger", I've seen way more accounts of people saying he strikes out looking a lot. Eventually he will learn to foul some of them off but I'd much rather he K looking at a fringe strike than missing a slider in the dirt

Dan Jennings Traded to TB for Casey Gillaspie

QUOTE (Soha @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 07:31 AM) Cordell seems pegged as a 4th outfielder. You can sign those guys for free every winter. Nearly everyone that reported on that trade has said that Cordell's floor is a 4th outfielder but that he has a great chance to be a regular OF. Good defense, arm, speed and ability to hit 15+ HR is not a scrap heap OF -
Hope he got the ball, knew it was gone off the hit but I was worried it'd fall into some douche's hands who wouldn't have given it back

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
Knackattack replied to username's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Cordell hits .275/.330/440 with good D in CF, by the time Robert, Rutherford and Eloy are ready they can just flip him for even more.. or a SP, or bullpen help, or an infielder.. then we can just add that to this deal. If he doesn't we traded 3 months of a good rental reliever in a year where he might accidently drop us from top 3 pick range by pitching well for a guy with potential. Not a big deal -
Nothing like running 100 pitches up in 3 days on a out of nowhere reliever and flipping him for (probably) your starting LF in a week

Sure throwing a b**** fit about getting aced twice. Too close to take at this point in the game it's his own fault -

We knew this was going to happen with Moncada, better to let him figure out major league breaking stuff in counts and games that actually matter. He has a terrific eye and will adjust to this stuff here. Not gonna see the same pitches in AAA -
Nationals acquire Doolittle/Madson from As

I feel like Oakland set the bar really low... kind of a light return right) -
Hansen and Yolmer are both so much better than Saladino offensively, kind of a waste to keep him around with those guys as options

When Saladino/Leury return, who goes down?
Knackattack replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hard call, outside of Garcia I think all of the other guys have been more impressive than Saladino. Engel I think they are going to keep in CF as his defense and good offense have been a nice sign. Obvious answer performance wise would be running Engel in CF, Yolmer at 2nd and Leury at SS but we know that isn't going to happen
