QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 05:34 PM) Any chance we can all agree not to use the term White Flag on this site ever again? The Indians were a far better team and franchise in 1997 and were just waiting to make a move in the division. They won the pennant and ended up just short of their first title since 1954. The concept of the White Flag was a fabrication for headlines more than anything else. The only mistake was JR publicly stating the Sox weren't going to catch Cleveland, even though he was correct. The White Sox were a middling team that year and going nowhere. Kind of like this year. White Flag

Once out, wouldn't getting back in be jumping on the band wagon? So if the Sox make a run this season, no one who is out will get on board?

All in, all the time.............Not blind and stupid though. All right maybe a little stupid.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 11:57 PM) There's no point in doing so this late in the season when the team is actually in the race. This would be worse than the White Flag because of all the money they committed to this roster. They may as well play it out. Yep, I agree here. Adam Dunn is fun bad.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 25, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) I'm psyched...the first "big" series of the season, imo. This one is crucial. To their credit, Tigers are trying to grab this division and run with it right now. We've been hanging around and everyone's wondered when/if we'd make a move. Now is the time. Total agreement with this. The Tribe and the Twinks have the Angels and the Rangers. We could be looking at the turning point of the season. Look at the pithching matchups in all those games. The Sox have Buerhle the Tigers have Below. I'd sure hate to lose this one and go against Verlander with a loss. The Sox could make up serious ground in the division with a great homestand. A Homestand in the middle of Summer against long time traditional original rivals, Go Go White Sox!! This could be loads of fun. The time is right now to seize it and run with it.

DeAza or Viciedo should come up and Rios should at least sit, if he can't be sent down. Solutions? Teahen gets cut. Vizquel gets cut. Lillibridge gets sent down. Peavey goes on the dl. This is the big leagues boys some one has got to go and if not Rios then who? The guy leads a charmed life but he must be taken out of the lineup, and some one has to go to make roster room. Maybe Morel with Omar back at third, maybe Sale can go down to work on starting,Bruney? There are options. Poke holes in them all and no change is made.

QUOTE (Real @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) It's easy to do this, too Either send down Lillibridge, or release Teahen. Bench Rios, and either bench or DL Dunn. Release Omar. Call up De Aza, and Viciedo. BOOM, WORLD SERIES. ........... De Aza and Viciedo should come up. Dunn stays, Lillibridge stays. Omar could be released. Can Rios and Teahen be sent down? Maybe we get lucky and some one claims them on waivers. Also another possibility is put Peavey on the dl. He is contributing very little and no one would question it. Can they lose both Omar and Teahen? The infield would be a little thin especially at short and third.

Piching wins and the white sox have the best in this division. White Sox pull away easy by the end. Ok I'm a sentimental Sox fan and probably dreaming, but............could happen.

I don't feel good when he comes in. Sale either. -
White Sox as a franchise and the 2011 dilemma
soxrwhite replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There is plenty of blame to go around............Then again a little winning streak and there will be plenty of credit to go around. However, I am beginning to doubt whether that winning streak will happen this season. -
AJ rated #93 of 94 in overall C's defense
soxrwhite replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Calling a sold game? so-so. A pretty good reciever? Yeah I think so. Can't throw anybody out? Absolutely! A good hitter? Grounds to second baseman more than any one I have ever seen. I also think he is a divisive personality in the clubhouse. Buerhle doesn't throw to him and he has had words with Peavey. He has a reputation for a reason. -

Coopers' ok but over rated. If he fixed Thornton as he is given credit for shouldn't he give him a little repair this season. -

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 11:53 PM) Only Joe Cowley and his two diciples. What's holding this team back is the inability to hit the baseball and make adjustments at the plate. They don't score enough. A one or two run lead probably will not hold up all game. Must tack on a few runs on. Hitting especially timely hitting is the probem. Dunn is not going to the minors or getting traded. We are stuck with him for this season period. Possible roster solutions? Put Peavey [not very good right now] on dl and bring up Viciedo and dh him or Quentin. Jordan Danks or Deaza could play a better center and hit at least the .207 Rios is giving us, and he can go to minors. If some team claims him great. Same with Teahen. If necessary Lillibridge or Vizquel can go to make roster room. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 02:47 PM) I don't know why we'd want to dump Quentin. He actually can hit sometimes. Because they can replace him with Viciedo and not skip a beat [hopefully]. Using Carlos to get more in return than any other player on roster.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 17, 2011 -> 06:44 PM) I bet Ventura would be groomed to be our next manager. Larussa

The Sox got the breaks, the calls, and the bounces, last night [first game after break]. Maybe the second half will even out the first.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 16, 2011 -> 04:34 AM) I hate to throw cold water on an upbeat post game thread, but Rios was O for 5 and left 7 men on base!!!!! If any team wants one of our pitchers, they'd better agree to take that Rios contract in the deal. I'm ready for a de Aza and Lillibridge platoon. And please, don't anyone dare post that "de Aza is not an everyday Major League hitter". How do you know? Based upon what, his 164 AB's, when he was 23? And, who says Alex Rios is? I'd be shocked if de Aza put up numbers any worse than Rios has. I'd take anywhere near de Aza's limited MLB production from last season over Rios, without even considering the money saved. For me, the question isn't whether I'd prefer de Aza to Rios. The question is; what GM would be dumb enough to take him and that contract? Besides K. W. Moreover, with de Aza in CF, you have your lead off hitter to replace Pierre. Then you have room for Viciedo. Please someone, take Rios and put us all out of our misery!!! All they can do is win games. They won against a top pitcher and I read pessimism and negativity. One game does not win a championship, but they won damit. Is that not enough. One win at a time is all they can do.

POLL:Gordo, is he breaking out of that season long slump?
soxrwhite replied to chisoxfan09's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He has been more selective. Laying off the high heat and the low outside slider. He has looked better recently. -
Of course we didn't get him to be a setup guy but you can't make him an ace simply by paying him. Maybe after 18 months post surgery or down the line he gets it back, but now his best contribution this championship season is a few innings at a time out of the pen.

Here on out, what do you think should be done with Sale?
soxrwhite replied to shlammajamma's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Trade him now while he still has some value. An average reliever starts next year and becomes an average starter what is that worth? He is still a hot prospect now and could give us a bat especially in a package for a push this season. 5 games out boys! C'mon lets go! -
Anything the Sox get from Peavey is gravy. Assume he can't pitch and if we get a few good innings from him great. I said a long time ago ( and was scorned on this site for it ) but still believe he is better suited to bullpen status.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 09:18 AM) Let's face it. Peavy is going to be one of those elderly people who breaks their hip in the shower. Why wait?

Lets see, the Sox usually get washed up, coming back from bad injury or never fulfilled promise. So how agout Giambi, Morneau, and Milledge? Oh thats right we already got Milledge.
