  1. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 07:11 AM) I have no problem with Farmio and DJ. Much better than the homer-for-hire John Rooney. Rooney called Sox games for nearly twenty years. How is he any less of a "homer-for-hire" than Darrin Jackson? QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 07:20 AM) Maybe that's what people prefer. Slick professionalism. I'd rather hear Farmio talk about his neighborhood exploits in E.G. and DJ's backhanded complements of everyone on the team. I'd like to actually be able to follow the baseball game they're nominally broadcasting, myself.
  2. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 12:35 PM) Joe Crede Have you ever heard him talk? He has an awfully boring speaking voice.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 08:07 AM) It won't get you very far as they are moving to 890... This goes to show you how little I know about Chicagoland radio. I don't even know a single FM station beyond WBEZ.
  4. People are showing up this weekend anyway for the '05 reunion. This makes all sorts of sense, including business sense.
  5. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 06:21 AM) the owners way of reasoning..... keep it in the family. *shudder* Honest question--is there any other team in baseball that employs zero broadcast professionals in their booths?
  6. I hardly listen to any terrestrial radio; my drivetime is all podcasts or XM. I've never tuned into 790 in my life; I'll have to test out the signal today. Pray it isn't during Limbaugh. Though, even if it doesn't come in well I can always listen on XM, which I prefer to do anyway. Yes, it tends to be slightly delayed, but is still not behind my phone alerts. Plus it means I get the score and innings/outs on the display, which is crucial when you're listening to Ed Farmer "call" a game. It also enables me to listen to the opponents' feed when they're on the road.
  7. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:03 AM) Hawk is so close to AJ, he considers him like a son. I can see a scenario where he agrees to cut back games whihle mentoring AJ in teh booth to take on a fulltime PBP or color role. No more former players on PBP, please.
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 12:12 PM) It's really a great channel. I've been watching it more and more. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 12:33 PM) I kid you not, it's on my tv almost all the time I'm at home. In the morning waiting for the nanny there's nothing better than Quick Pitch, and at night it's basically NFL RedZone for MLB. I f***ing love that station. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 12:38 PM) Quick Pitch is just the best. I find myself getting more and more frustrated with MLB Network. So much of the "analysis" is inane (check out the @HeardonMLBT Twitter), and during the day you have to put up with Chris Russo and f***ing Intentional Talk. They cancelled the best offseason show on there (Clubhouse Confidential). They've even managed to screw up Quick Pitch--it was so much better in the first few seasons when they didn't have someone "hosting" it and calling the highlights and it was just from game to game using the local announcers. At night it's nice to get the live look-ins I guess, (I have Extra Innings this year so I don't tune in much) but you'd better mute it (at least Mitch Williams is gone).
  9. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 11:10 AM) Why should Konerko not even be considered? He was the face of the franchise for 15+ years and is 2nd to Thomas in almost all the important offensive categories in White Sox history. Paul Konerko was the face of the franchise in 2000?
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) I've never even heard of such a thing as 9 minutes of stoppage time. Really? It happens sometimes. Serious injuries, etc.
  11. Bryce Harper about to face a pitcher younger than him for the first time in pro ball. Yes, that includes his rehab stint in AA last year. Jacob Lindgren of the Yankees.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 06:43 AM) Recap posted. I clicked on the BRef link to Spencer Adams, and... It's a real shame the guy never really put it together. Still stuck in Low A at the age of 116. Got to admire his love of the game; I think most would've given up on the dream and hung up the spikes by now.
  13. As above, so below: the Sox draft room TV is one of the smallest in the majors...sound a bit familiar?
  14. At this stage I think it's fair to say Sale's the best pitcher the Sox have had in the Reinsdorf era, and it's not particularly close.
  15. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) I was sitting 15th row between the plate and the Sox dugout last night. This was goddamn amazing to see in person. And to think, so many Sox fans missed it for a hockey game. QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 09:02 AM) but the hawks are in the stanley cup finals. way different hype. It's hockey.
  16. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 05:24 PM) Nobody is going to say Novak hasn't had an impressive career that is still far from over, but bottom line in Tennis you are remembered and judged by # of Majors won. Djokovic could/should easily have been at a higher number given his talent. This is an incredibly recent phenomenon. Do you know how many majors Rod Laver has, off the top of your head? The idea of "slam count=ultimate count of greatness" only really became a focus in the late 90s when Sampras reached 14. But even if we're going to do this, Novak Djokovic has as many majors at 27 as Agassi and Connors retired with, and more than McEnroe. You really need to keep in mind the level of competition he's been facing in these finals, too. You NEED to adjust for era. Federer's biggest competition was guys like Nalbandian, Safin, Roddick. No offense to them, but they don't really compare to today's top guys.
  17. I was sitting 15th row between the plate and the Sox dugout last night. This was goddamn amazing to see in person. And to think, so many Sox fans missed it for a hockey game.
  18. I have Diamond Box seats between the Sox dugout and the plate; this game had better f***ing happen.
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 04:43 AM) Things people said 5 years ago. Novak is super likable so hope it doesn't come off as me hating on him. It's just confusing. Nope. The immediate outlook of the tour now is much weaker than it five years ago. Also, he has dominated the tour. He's won 35 titles since the beginning of 2011 (Rafa has 21, Fed 19, Murray 17. I can't go through and count everyone's but I doubt Ferrer even has much more than 10 in that span). And he hardly ever plays 250s and 500s. Look at his results at the majors. Only once in that span has he failed to make the final weekend. That's a streak that's topped only by Federer in the Open Era. 150 weeks at #1 since the beginning of 2011 Yes, his record in major finals could be better. But again, these guys at the top are facing competition in these finals unlike any other time in Open Era history.
  20. She works three jobs while under the influence of grass? Props to her.
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 10:27 AM) I don't get it. I feel Djokovic should be winning majors consistently and he's just a consistent let down. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) I agree, with Federer way past his prime and Nadal being on the downswing the past few years Djokovic is so far ahead of everyone else in terms of talent he should be dominating on a Federer(prime) type level. He still wins a lot, but I think he could have had a much better career. Aside from Rafa at Roland Garros, Federer '05-'07 didn't need to deal with anything close to the level of what Djokovic has to deal with in terms of today's top guys. The guy is going to retire with a dozen majors and maybe 200(!) weeks at #1. Arising from the shadow of Federer and Nadal. Not at all a disappointment. Could we have won a few more major finals? Sure. But keep in mind that most of the losses you're thinking of are to Rafa at RG. He had a bit of a fallow period (a lot going on in his personal life; deaths among friends and family etc) in parts of '12 and '13, but...look at the guy's consistency at the biggest events. When did he last go out early at a Masters 1000, let alone a major? I'm disappointed, too. I am. Someday he'll win this thing. It sucks that it was Stan, because he's maybe my absolute favorite player to watch live and I want great things for him, but... No matter. Djokovic is still in amazing position to dominate the tour for the next three or four years, IMO.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 07:44 PM) Correa up. Will face Chris Sale in his debut. Guess who's got two thumbs and Platinum Box seats between the plate and the Sox dugout tomorrow night?
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 10:51 PM) On the other hand ... Mr. Negativity checking in here. Crain wasn't good in his last stint with the Sox QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 10:53 PM) Crain had a 0.74 ERA in 38 games in his last stint with the White Sox. What exactly do you want? I expect zero out of him, but to describe any part of his stint with the White Sox as anything other than orgasmically great is ridiculous. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 08:20 AM) Do you ever bother to fact check yourself before you make ridiculous statements such as this? That statement could not be further from the truth. A non-"closer" reliever who made an All-Star team and chalked up 6.1 bWAR in less than three full seasons, and was a valued trade chip ON THE DISABLED LIST. Yeah, he was terrible!
  24. Maybe just make the one thread and update it as games come along?
