Brewers nearing trade
Could the Brewers be making a run for Yelich? A package deal of Yelich/Castro could make sense for them and makes some of their younger OF prospects expendable. Plus Castro is a 2B and fills an immediate need for them and wants out of Miami as well.

- Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 20, 2018 -> 11:15 PM) I agree with all of this. Love the idea of Yelich’s bat in our lineup but as somebody mentioned the other day, outfield isn’t really a problem for the Sox moving forward. Sure, CF is a bit up in the air but Robert might take care of that. With the outfields in the minors loaded with guys and not enough playing time to go around, it seems like a position where the Sox have the safest bet of playing “wait and see”. If the Sox are going to fire a bunch of prospect bullets for a Yelich-type core piece this early, maybe 3B is the way to go. Least amount of depth there. The only other sense I could make of a Yelich acquisition is buying lower with our prospects than we could sell him for in the future. I dunno. There's no way the Sox would trade for Yelich only to flip him for a better return. If they trade for him, it's to be as a part of the core of the rebuild. I still can't see them trading any of the top prospects when they aren't even in contention yet.- Adam Engel
Personally, I think Tilson is a DFA candidate for when the Sox need a roster spot. I bet you they could easily get him through waivers. With missing the entire season last year, they guy needs to be in the minors trying to get back into the rhythm of playing every day. But having said that, the Sox absolutely should allow him to complete in the spring. If he manages to out hit Engel and Garcia then he deserves first shot.- Gerrit Cole to the Astros confirmed
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 04:15 PM) Quintana obviously had 3 1/2 seasons of inexpensive control remaining, but Sox really did well considering what the Pirates just accepted. Musgrove might be a reliever, Moran might be a AAAA player, Feliz could be a solid pen arm, and Martin was a guy the Astros were comfortable losing in the rule five draft last month Really paints a good picture of why Q didn't end up on the Astros. Hahn certainly looks like one of the better GM's in the game when it comes to negotiating deals. Cole, hurt or not, should have netted a better package that this.- Cold Stove - Free Agents Still on the table
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 09:53 PM) https://sports.yahoo.com/cubs-know-waiting-...-155434272.html Cubs know waiting for Bryce Harper and next winter's insane free-agent class is affecting baseball's offseason Are the White Sox better off going after Donaldson next off-season or Arenado after 2019? Interesting decisions to be made, because it seems like it's going to be almost impossible to land Machado...as that would fly in the face of allocating a large chunk of money instead of 3-4 major improvements simultaneously. Abreu/Avi situations need to be sorted. Blackmon would be attractive, but a five year deal seems risky if you're waiting on Luis Robert. Still, he might be the best "fall-back" outfield target after Harper. Cruz and McCutcheon are too old, and Jimenez is supposed to be the next Cruz, right? A.Miller/Britton/Cody Allen/Kimbrel, they're probably going to be overpaying for a closer (see Robertson in 2014) in all likelihood, although there's always a possibility Burdi or Lopez ends up doing the job internally. Andrus might be in play if Tim Anderson doesn't fully rebound....Beltre on a two year deal, but there's that huge risk you overpay so late in his career. I really hope the Sox don't go after Donaldson as a desperation plan B. I still have faith the Sox are going to at the very least make a competitive offer to Machado (if he is indeed their #1 target). It certainly would be funny if they landed Harper instead.- White Sox sign Miguel Gonzalez
QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 07:21 PM) Espn had the article that he signed for something like 4.5 million. So I don't think it really prevents us from bringing in someone else. I also think the return we can get for Migo is pretty limited. We basically traded him at his peak last year and got Ti'Quan Forbes back. Ideally you would want someone with a little more upside like Tillman or Buchholz that you could pump and dump The fact that they didn't bring either of those two suggests to me that both Buchholz and Tillman are asking for multi-year deals that don't fit in the Sox plans, and (like Dick Allen said) the Sox want a familiar/solid clubhouse guy to continue to build on the culture they are establishing in the clubhouse with the youngsters. I'm fine with it, I just want to see another lower-level signing for insurance and September innings. I'd be shocked if all three of Fulmer, Lopez, and Giolito were still starting games in late September. But who knows, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.- White Sox sign Miguel Gonzalez
Kind of surprised by this. I always liked Miggy, but I thought the Sox would have taken a chance on bringing in a new face. I don't have any high expectations that he'll be as successful as last year. Still would like to see 1 more depth signing for Charlotte's rotation. Sox only have House, Covey, and Danish as depth, and they need someone to eat innings at the end of the year if they decide to shut Gio, Lopez, and/or Fulmer down.- Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 11:57 AM) "Starlin, we know you dont want to be a part of a rebuild. So we are trading you to the White Sox" "Also, while you had a full-time job here in Miami, you'll get to play maybe on Sundays every other week or when Moncada needs a rest.- White Sox acquire Joakim Soria, Luis Avilan and $3 Million
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 09:31 PM) How do you have a blown save while not allowing a run to score? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure if a relief pitcher enters a game with the tying run on base from a previous reliever and allows them to score, they get charged with a blown save, but the run is charged to the previous pitcher.- Fake Rumor: White Sox and Moustakas "Close" on Deal.
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 09:35 AM) 1) Does anybody really think that the White Sox are going to out spend the other teams in signing Machado next year? 2) Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to sign Moustakas?. 3) Is there anybody who wouldn't want to see a 2018 White Sox infield of Moustakas, Anderson. Moncado and Abreu? 1) Tough, but I would answer yes at the moment. 2) No. Losing the draft pick is not worth what he brings to the table long term. 3) Short term it makes sense if they were trying to compete, but with the draft pick attached I'd much rather see Sanchez/Davidson play there to get more AB's.- White Sox acquire Joakim Soria, Luis Avilan and $3 Million
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 08:03 PM) So what does the bullpen look like now? CL: Soria SU: Jones SU: Avilan MR: Farquhar MR: Bummer MR: Minaya/Infante/Vieira LR: Covey/? I would think something like this: CP: Soria SU: Avilan SU: Minaya MR: Farquhar MR: Bummer MR: Infante LR: Scahill Covey either as the 5th starter spot (until Rodon comes back) or in Charlotte starting. Vieira in Charlotte. Has Jones even been confirmed to be ready by the start of the year?- Sox checked in on Nick Castellanos
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 07:20 PM) This is George Offmans tweet Sox in 3 team trade with Dodgers and Royals getting relievers Luis Avilan from LA, Joakim Soria from KC and cash. And word is Sox kicked the tires on Tigers RF Nick Castellanos. Interesting. Guess they would have put him back at 3B?- White Sox acquire Joakim Soria, Luis Avilan and $3 Million
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 07:22 PM) Can you please elaborate? I have no idea how his stuff was last year, but his K rate was above his career average and his BB rate wasn’t too much worse. The HR rate obviously appears to be an outlier though. Regardless, the stats seem to be pretty good. Did he blow a bunch of saves or something? If that’s the big problem then I’ll happily role the dice on him as our closer in a rebuilding season. Soria comes across as one of those "deceptively good" stats guys. He struggled last year with RISP and high leverage situations. Check out his Fangraph splits, small sample size, but not good by any means. Even so, I don't think there's any reason to freak out over him being on the team. Sox needed pen arms bad.- White Sox acquire Joakim Soria, Luis Avilan and $3 Million
That is pretty impressive.- White Sox acquire Joakim Soria, Luis Avilan and $3 Million
And Soria to the Sox too...- White Sox acquire Joakim Soria, Luis Avilan and $3 Million
Avilan is a lefty too. Can't really complain. Sox need pen help and he could be a flip candidate at the deadline.- Large 30 team Fantasy Baseball Dynasty League

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 26, 2017 -> 10:08 AM) I don't really want to trade any of our prospects yet. Let's revisit this in a year if he is still with Miami. This. They're both great players, but it's a bit premature to go out and start trading away assets before you even know what you have in house. Give the kids another year and re-evaluate next offseason when the big FA's are available.- OT: Dan Le Batard vs Commish
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 09:55 PM) I'm sure the debt was discussed. But did it necessarily include "we are trading Stanton" "we are trading Ozuna" Or was it more "we are going to follow the White Sox/Houston/Cubs model and trade assets for a rebuild. I don't see how they are doing anything different than other teams like the White sox. Their commodities are different due to the contracts and the fans aren't tolerating it like the sox fans. The returns are a night and day difference though. This board would have erupted and called for Hahn's head if the Sox got returns like that for Sale, Eaton, and Q. But like you said, the contracts have really left the Marlins is a tough position.- 2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports

How good of friends were Castillo and Machado? Maybe that plays a part with being able to convince a player about the "Sox culture."- White Sox have shown interest in Machado
This is definitely interesting to say the least. Can't image the Orioles have much leverage here.- 2007 Miggy Chase?
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 10, 2017 -> 04:51 PM) Wasn't it Ozzie who messed this up for us? I thought it had leaked early which is what allowed the Tigers to get involved. Don't remember Ozzie being involved though.- Contract Tender Deadline is Friday
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 09:58 PM) We should go after Rondon. Live arm, big(ish) name. Definitely a turnaround candidate that could fetch something Totally agree. I wouldn't mind them taking a look at Fiers either. He had a pretty awful year last year, but maybe Coop could get him back to his 2015 form. - Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
