4/12 Games
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 12, 2018 -> 06:26 PM) Cordell leads off the game for Charlotte with a strikeout. He?€™s now sporting a 42% K rate on the season. I have no idea how he went from barely striking out in spring training to this monstrosity but wow. It's really a head scratcher. Wonder he is suffering from Matt Davidson syndrome because he didn't make the team? Maybe he thought he was making the team.

4/9 Games
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 9, 2018 -> 08:13 PM) Make that 3-3 for Rutherford now. Great to see him off to a hot start.

Barons were rained out. Doubleheader on Sunday.

Saladino
Not sure why the Sox would have Saldino in their long term plans, being that he is already 28, but that doesn't mean he needs to be cut from the team. It makes no sense sense to me to replace Sally with someone at this current place and time. Jose Rondon is theoretically next on the list and he needs to be playing every day. Alvarez (as much of a feel good story that he is) has shown nothing at Charlotte and is already 28 as well. And does anyone really think that Jake Elmore, Juan Perez, or Ryan Brett are going to be more valuable to the Sox at this stage in the season?

Interesting to see Rose at 3B and Michalczewski at 2B for Birmingham. Wonder if that's going to be a thing all year?

**Game 3 of 162: Sox at Toronto**
QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 10:58 PM) If you want free agents to sign here we need to put some wins on the board. Too many good teams with money out there to sign with a 72 win team, with some hope for the future. Lester signed with the Cubs coming off of a 73 win year. With the amount of talent the Sox have, as long as it starts to show flashes of what could be, players will be attracted here (along with the value of the almighty dollar). Sox have to market the hell out of themselves in their FA pitches and open the pocketbooks.

2018 MiLB White Sox news and notes
Looks like Birmingham's roster is pretty much set: http://www.milb.com/roster/index.jsp?sid=t247 I'm surprised by a couple placements. Didn't think we'd see Goldberg, Clark, Walsh dropped down. Fisher is also a surprise, but I guess expected because of how stacked the lower minor league OF's are. Looks like all the ST invitees stuck around for Charlotte.

**Game 3 of 162: Sox at Toronto**
QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 09:10 PM) Bullpen is going to be fluid. If Farquhar has a bad 4-5 weeks, he gone. And Charlotte is loaded with experienced arms to replace him. I personally wouldn't give up on him yet, but to each their own.

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 08:37 AM) Where did you see this? Can't find it Really nice guy, met his father when he was with KAN https://minorleaguerosters.wordpress.com Stumbled upon this while Soxtalk was down. I don't know where they get their info, but it's spot on every time.

Any interest in Y.Tomas after he clears waivers?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 12:33 AM) Realistically, Cordell is the only one that realistically fits as a 4th/5th outfielder or platoon guy on a playoff roster. Skole was actually the most impressive hitter, if only he had a a legit defensive position. We might not be far from moving on without Abreu or Avi, there’s that to consider as well. I agree. Cordell provides the most realistic value of those guys, but the Sox should give the others their chance to prove themselves as well. Tomas is already 27 and has had mixed results so far in the majors. He doesn't seem like the type of player that is going to be a key future piece to push the Sox in the right direction. He honestly reminds me a lot of Viciedo.

Any interest in Y.Tomas after he clears waivers?
QUOTE (onedude @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 12:23 AM) If the Sox were without a piece they currently have I could see going after him...but I think it's better to let Delmonico and Davidson play without having to throw someone else into their starts. You wouldn't be able to play Tomas as much as you would like to, to get his stock up for trade bait. Agree with the above. Between Delmonico and Davidson, AB's are pretty limited already. Adding Tomas into the mix is going to make it hard to evaluate. Plus Charlotte is already loaded with guys that need consistent playing time - especially in the OF with May, Cordell, Tilson, and Palka.

Danny Hayes was released from Charlotte. Makes sense given his age and the logjam of bats that need playing time there.

**2018 Opening Day Game Thread**
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 29, 2018 -> 10:23 PM) I was being sarcastic regarding Moncada. But I’d like to see him be a tick more aggressive That second AB was painful to watch. He got much better swings off later in the game, though. I thought for sure that one ball was gone. He'll be just fine.

Matt Davidson
Davidson had a 9-10% BB% over three years at Charlotte. I have to imagine he's better than last year's numbers. It'll be really interesting to see what position he could put on the Sox if he does turn a corner this year.
-
AND THAT’S A WHITE SOX WINNER
Probably the most fun opening day game in a while. Great to see the offense explode with Anderson and Davidson getting it done. Also, really impressed by Engle. He had some good AB's. This team definitely has a different attitude than years past. Two years ago, this team would have rolled over and died after the 1st inning Shields meltdown.

Minor League Assignments
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2018 -> 02:43 PM) They are cannon fodder. They are there until someone needs the spot, and then who cares. Exactly. Why rush anyone and potentially hurt their development if they aren't ready?

1 surprise, 1 disappointment, 1 dark horse
1 surprise - Adam Engel He sticks in CF all year, and makes an argument that he has a place on the team. 1 disappointment - Reynaldo Lopez I think he's in for a rough year. He'll stay in the rotation all year, but it's not going to be what fans want to see or are expecting. After this year, there will be talk on this board about moving him to the pen. 1 dark horse - Tim Anderson He still isn't going to walk, but he's going to break out this year. Solid to plus defense at SS with at at least 20 HR's and 20 SB's.

MLBPA has filed a grievance
I'm honestly a little surprised a grievance wasn't filed against Miami sooner.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 09:52 AM) Why are people so opposed to Moustakas, but seemed to really dig signing a 30 year old catcher to a 2 year deal, which certainly doesn't fit with the rebuild? - Castillo didn't cost the Sox a draft pick, therefore it doesn't hurt the rebuild to add him. - It's nice to have a veteran catcher be on hand to help with the young pitchers coming up. - Obviously Castillo is Renteria's boy - and I'm ok with that. - He played with and is friends with Machado (it's a stretch, but it couldn't possible hurt their chances).
-
What's going on at catcher?
They both have options left, so the Sox won't lose either of them unless they flay out release them, which I don't see happening due to the lack of depth at catcher. I think it's going to come down to whoever has the better spring. I'd be surprised if the Sox view either of them as having a role on the team within the next few years.

Jake Burger out for season with ruptured Achillies Tendon
QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 06:37 PM) I know your being sarcastic but there really should have been something to find with Burger. Ruptures of the achilles tendon in 22 year olds dont happen from one instance. He had to have previous issues. Could it be something as stupid as a young, eager baseball player over-doing it and overexerting himself to make a good impression on the organization? That triple yesterday looked brutal, could he have hurt himself rounding the bases and then his effort today pushed him over the edge? We've seen injuries happen before when players hit the bag the wrong way, can the same be said for the Achille's?

Jake Burger out for season with ruptured Achillies Tendon
QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 05:00 PM) The injury that mitchell suffered would be much worse than the achilles for burger due to his size. Well that's good to hear. I was under the assumption they were similar if not the same (I couldn't remember).
-
Moustakas linked to Sox again
I would almost take the opposite opinion that the injury to Burger and Adolfo only help enforce the idea of how valuable the Sox good draft positioning is this year. I still think I'd lean towards keeping that 2nd round pick and continue to strengthen the farm with players that will more than likely contribute to the estimated competitive window (either as a player or as a trade piece to acquire a player).

Yoan or Eloy - who will have the better MLB career?
Went with Eloy. I think they'll both be All-Stars, but Eloy's power potential does it for me.
