  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 09:50 PM) FWIW, Rollins cleared waivers. We're stuck with Ramirez unless we eat salary. What does Rollins have to do with Alexei? Rollins is older, more expensive and the lesser of the two players at this point in their careers.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) I keep forgetting that Houston is in the AL. I have a feeling it's going to take me a couple years to get used to that.
  3. The good thing is that the Rangers actually want and could use Rios and didn't just do it with the intentions of blocking.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) Then why move him? He can contribute next year and perhaps bring back a better return in talent either in the offseason or next year at the deadline. It would make zero sense to move Rios for a pittance of a return, save $12 million on his deal, and then give 5/$90 to Choo or Ellsbury. I'm not saying we should give him away for nothing. I'm just saying thats there's no way that the team who claimed him will take on the entire contract and give us anything back better than marginal prospects.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) If Hahn can get them to pay his entire contract and gets a legitimate prospect, then he's a big-time winner in this scenario. I say zero chance of both those things occuring. If we want to shed the entire salary we just let them have him for nothing. If we want any sort of legit prospect we will need to eat some salary.
  6. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 02:20 PM) Then spend it on Choo and move Dayan to 1B. Nah. Sign Ellsbury and I'll be a very happen man. Tank to 1st, outfield of De Aza, Ellsbury, Garcia.
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 12:45 PM) Welp, nevermind, insurance just said the car must be same make and model. Good thing I liked my Civic... I've never heard of such a thing. I've totaled two cars in my life and both times I've just gotten a check for the value to do with as I please.
  8. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 06:07 PM) Mine says blackout on the guide, but the game is showing. Yea mines showing too. Weird.
  9. Anybody know why this game is going to be blacked out? At least according to my guide it is. I've never seen that before.
  10. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 01:43 AM) Good - Give him a shot there. Lord knows we need a CF. I highly doubt he will play CF at the Major League level. He is already huge and at 22 his body may not be done filling out yet. He is clearly destined for a corner.
  11. I doubt that Danks gets claimed. Even if he does I wouldn't let him go for nothing. He's pitching way better than his record and ERA show. His WHIP is very good. Compared to what pitchers are getting on the open market, Danks' contract is not as bad as people make it out to be. I would bet money that next year he will be back to the old John Danks with an ERA in the mid 3s.
  12. I still think the Sox make a run at Ellsbury. Slide De Aza over to left and have Tank/Dunn split 1B/DH duty. With his injury concerns I don't he's going to get the huge contract he would have gotten after 2011 if he had been a free agent. I also still think Rios gets moved to make room for Garcia.
  13. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) Here is a breakdown of what we already have designated for next year: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensa...am=CHA&pos= I dont imagine any player will be getting a whole lot in arbitration, so the Sox should have a good amount to work with I would guess Beckham and De Aza would each get $4-5 million.
  14. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:08 PM) Glad its over now so Rios can get this off his mind and continue to work You know damn well he's going to go on a tear now. Probably have another 6 hit game tonight.
  15. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:02 PM) I'm with you on this, they're generally never players for big FAs and this year's FA class is particularly weak. Plus the team needs more than just a few FAs to be competitive, they need to be rebuilt completely. I see them just getting cheaper and keeping the difference. With the starting rotation they have, small improvements to the lineup could make them contenders.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) Co-captains! Rios can be the alternate. We'll give him an "A" patch to wear like in hockey.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) Wouldn't Rios be the longest tenured? Beckham's been with the Sox longer.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) If Konerko retires, who would be next in line to be captain of the Sox? Nobody. Having captains in baseball is stupid.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) Or my personal favorite: I thought for sure when I clicked on your link it was going to be this gem
  20. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:10 AM) Rangers have to cave and settlel for Rios at 2:50 this afternoon dont they?? One can only hope. I think they're in trouble if they don't make a move with Cruz likely out.
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:07 AM) What would the Royals want with Rios? Do they think they are contending next year? They think they're contending this year. They decided to go for it when they said Santana wasn't available. They're only 7 games out.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:26 AM) Well I think he is going to be moved too. And Lindstrom. But not Alexei. I agree with this. We certainly aren't going to get too much for Rios and will have to throw in some money, but I definitely think he gets moved after the acquisition of Garcia yesterday. Lindstrom will get traded for whatever we can get, which won't be much. Only way Alexei gets moved is if we throw in some serious cash and I don't see that happening.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 05:12 PM) Why not? It's not like he's got an Adam Dunn batting average. He still gets hits. He is one of those trade deadline signees that MIGHT help a team win it all. Are you implying that Paulie is having a better year tban Dunn? Give me a f***ing break. Konerko is done.
  24. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 07:44 AM) If Peavy starts tonight for the Sox and then is traded tomorrow, he can't start for his new team until Sunday. If the Sox hold Peavy out tonight and then he's traded tomorrow, he can start for his new team Thursday, which might end up giving him one extra start for the new team down the line. Also there's the chance of injury. Say Peavy gets pulled in the 4th for something as minor as a cramp. In that scenario Hahn just lost a whole lot of leverage. It's really the smart thing to do to not have him start if there's even a chance you might trade him.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:10 AM) Where is Floyd going? I thought he had a multi year deal. Floyd is a free agent after this year. He gone.
