  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 10:50 AM) Oh well. I was thinking 4 days rest and Saturday would be the day for Chris to pitch. Or did we go to a six-man rotation? With the addition of Johnson and in an effort to limit Santiago's innings the rest of the way, they are doing a six man the rest of the year.
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 10:55 AM) Let's win and close that gap a bit between THE INDIANS and the Tigers. Fixed. I would love to see the Indians or Royals overtake the Tigers.
  3. Unless they shuffle the rotation, Sunday will be Sale.
  4. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 10:41 PM) While the latter is hard to prove, it is known that Belle was a dick. What caulfield had meant when he was saying "haven't we learned from Belle" was because I believe we signed him to a 5 year contract but he had opted out after 2 years. The years after those two with us he went to Baltimore and his hip fell apart and he sucked. Your definition of sucking must be quite different than mine. His first season with Baltimore he put up a .297/.400/.541 slash and his second year (with a failing hip) he put up a .281/.342/.474 line.
  5. Opening day in March? Off the top of my head I can't remember that ever happening in the 20+ years I've been watching.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 02:51 PM) Unless he's due a significant pay bump, I see no reason not to bring Veal back. He could return to the 2012 version. He has one more year of pre-arb status left. The Sox will pay him whatever they feel he is worth. Probably $500k, just over the minimum. Then his first year of arbitration he might get $1 million if he has a decent season next year.
  7. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Sep 9, 2013 -> 09:17 AM) there's talk he's going to get $300 million. and from the yankees. why would he want to go to chicago? I think he stays with the Yankees, but I doubt they go to $300 million. After the Arod fiasco I think they will be a little leery about committing that kind of money to players when they're in their late 30's/40's.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 8, 2013 -> 11:27 PM) Three months? I thought that story came out about a month ago after he got a few hits to left and then he went into that massive slump where he didn't do squat again. The shift was back on him in KC at the game I was at. I've heard June 8th as the date when he started his new approach. Even with the current slump he's been in, his stats from June 8th to today are as follows. .273/.372/.500 slash with 18 hrs and 51 rbis. Even with your hatred of Dunn you can't argue against those numbers.
  9. Cano is looking to get a contract in the neighborhood of $250 million. I'd have to say there is zero chance he would accept a 3 or 4 year deal. Even if the per year was obscene it might still end up costing him money. He would be in his mid thirties by the time a 4 year deal would be done and would be looking at getting less per year than if just signs a 10 year deal this offseason. Not to mention the risk of injury costing him huge money. I am completely against signing Cano. Give me some combination of Abreu, Ellsbury and McCann and call it a day. You could probably get any two of those players for the cost of Cano and it addresses multiple needs instead on one.
  10. Judging by the majority of the posts in this thread, I don't think too many will care but there will be a CSNY reunion at the Bridge School Benefit. I'm pretty excited for it, wish I could go.
  11. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Sep 6, 2013 -> 12:31 AM) 500?? I've negotiated for a lot less on used cars before albeit from a private owner. Is this really all I should look at negotiating for? I think what he is saying is look around to see what other comparable cars have gone for and make your first offer $500 below what those other cars have gone for regardless of what the dealer is asking for the car you're looking at. If the dealer's asking $19,000 but they only typically sell for $18,000, start you negotiating at $17,500. The key is to be willing to walk away. The last car I bought, they were asking $23,000 and offering me $10,000 for my trade. I got them down to $21,500 for the car and up to $10,500 on my trade.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 5, 2013 -> 12:47 PM) It is there somewhere. Chris Rongey saw him hit a ball off of the Comcast fundamentals deck facade in BP. Plus both of his homers were hit to the right of center. It's obvious he has power, he just needs to learn how to elevate more.
  13. QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 03:24 PM) We're missing someone, aren't we? Who's in CF? QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 03:30 PM) The lineup I saw had ADA in CF and Tank in LF. Yes. Tank in LF in the 7th spot.
  14. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) Yes. Freedom of speech does not extend to privately owned entities such as this message board.
  15. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Aug 30, 2013 -> 09:55 AM) Greg is Greg. I think people should utilize their ignore button instead of attempting to silence people. I mean, I think we fought a revolutionary war for that right... We fought the Revolutionary War to give people the right to troll websites?
  16. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) I really have no way of knowing do I? Would the company I'm buying it from even know/be truthful about it? No real way to be sure, but you should be able to make a somewhat educated guess. For instance, if the engine is 15 years old and has 60,000 miles on it then you figure it was either a lot of city driving (4k/yr is pretty low) or that the person just didn't hardly ever drive. Neither of which is really great for the engine. If it's 5 years old, then that would put you right around the nationwide average of 12k/year so you can bet there is atleast a good portion of highway miles in there.
  17. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 06:15 PM) I do not post much and have learned never to respond to anything you say. However, if you are not a troll, then you are the biggest enigma in the history of Soxtalk. Your quirks are finely crafted and your comments tailor made to generate frustration on the part of your peers. You consistently express simple childish beliefs you stick to no matter how much they defy logic, or more importantly, how many times intelligent debate illustrates the glaring flaws in these beliefs. For a while, you were the mentally handicapped brother that everyone put up with as they felt sorry for you, as you had no control over your disability. I would almost be ready to assume you were real and just a simpleton with internet acces. However, when you talk about how you really are a smart guy and how you have a family, I am convinced you are full of it. You were like our Fredo, but the entertainment value of your posts has long passed. Please go away as your commentary only diminishes the value of this site and makes us all dumber for having to read your drivel. Post of the year?
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 05:17 PM) This is my last comment on the matter, but why tell me to give it a rest??? I didn't START the threads. There are 2 Oz threads in the last couple days. People care! An Ozzie thread without a greg comment is like a hot dog without mustard. I have to say I like my hotdogs better without mustard.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 06:12 PM) Will there be a Neal Cotts tribute? Should at least do something for him. He was a big part of that '05 team.
  20. We have a manager under contract for 2014 and I would say the odds of him losing his job are slim to none.
  21. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 12:12 PM) It has nothing to do with the last week. His velocity has been down all season. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/velo.php?pla...13&s_type=2 QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 12:13 PM) His velocity is down 1.7 MPH from last year. I don't know what it means, because he definitely looks perfectly healthy to me. It's been stated that the dip in his velocity is intentional. He feels he has better movement and command if he takes a mile or two per hour off his pitches. Watching him pitch this year, I believe it to be the right approach.
  22. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 23, 2013 -> 11:26 AM) I hope Sale puts one right between his shoulder blades...after he gets a nice ovation. Just for fun, I'd like to see Sale through one behind him (with no intent of hitting him) if AJ were up with no one on and two outs.
  23. Reed with 6 saves in a row. Not too big of a deal with the off day Monday so he didn't have to pitch more than three straight days.
  24. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 09:28 AM) I made a bet with a friend on the exact same thing when we were in maybe 7th graden and 12 years old . Took me til I was 47 to win that bet. Cubs will find a way to f*** it up .They always do. The Sox aren't much better but we're +1 in the last near 100 years. Sustained sucess isn't in the cards for either team when teams are willing to go crazy with payroll. I'd never pick the Cubs over the Sox when it comes to winning anything. And I'm happy to see the results of the poll indicate this by a wide margin. If you go back 100 years we're +2.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 04:57 PM) And yet that fangraphs piece makes the point that he has a reasonable shot at 500 HR's, which if done in a presumably clean era, will give him a longer look than McGriff got for example. The point of that article will only change if Dunn stops hitting home runs, which he's back to doing again. That said, even if he gets to 500 I wouldn't vote for him. I agree that at 500 he wouldnt even come close to getting in, but I just have a hard time picturing a 600 homer, clean player not make the hall no matter what his other numbers are.
