I can't see how this is a PR disaster. Something to keep in mind is that Soxtalk posters are largely the 1% of the fanbase, in regards to org knowledge (roster, minors, FO, etc). To assume Jimbo McLunchbox is upset because the Sox DIDN'T trade his favorite player for 5 guys he's never heard of... is pretty ridiculous.

He could opt out if he doesn't want to pitch for the team he is traded to... he is at that point in his career where there are more important things than his salary. He might want legacy (IE: a championship) instead.

I really wish that the FO would come out and say what the team's philosophy is. If you are "retooling" then hanging on to Chris Sale and Jose Quintana is a must. They are the strength of the team's core. If you are rebuilding, then it makes almost no sense to keep them. If you are rebuilding it makes even less sense to trade one and not the other.
