Golfing Thread
His only chance at getting picked for the Ryder Cup team is to make it through four rounds this weekend.

Adam Dunn pitches
From the comments: Actual total is 849, but it still seems to be true.

Is Ventura the worst manager in the history of MLB?
In the last six games, the Sox are 3-3 with a run differential of -24. By your calculations, that makes him one of the greatest managers ever, to pull off a .500 record out of such a Pythagoreanly horrible team.

Matt Thornton claimed by Nats
Wow, then it does seem like it might have made sense for the Sox to claim him.
-
Matt Thornton claimed by Nats
Where the Sox are in the standings, it doesn't make sense to acquire anybody whose contract is up at the end of the season.
-
Rios on waivers
Has anybody ever acquired the same guy via waiver claim twice?
-
Matt Thornton claimed by Nats
Yeah, you're potentially on the hook for every single contract on every guy that you claim, so teams have to prioritize, and I guess nobody else prioritized lefty relief. That explains why Washington got the claim, but it still doesn't make a lot of sense that the Yankees just let him go.

Rangers @ Sox
That's really mean, getting fans' hopes up like that.
-
Dodgers waivers
They probably have. Waiver lists and claims are not released publicly, and teams aren't supposed to give out the info. There seem to be more and more "sources" in recent years, but the lack of information still doesn't mean that the Sox haven't done anything.

Matt Thornton claimed by Nats
No, it goes by league first and then record. If Nats won the claim on him then no AL team claimed him.

More MLB names uncovered in Biogenesis investigations
If there is any justice in this world one of them is Ortiz.

Phillies dump day onto waiver wire
Right, if they work out a trade then the NTC comes into play, but if they just let him go for nothing, the NTC does not come into play.
-
Phillies dump day onto waiver wire
I don't think a NTC can block a waiver claim.
-
Phillies dump day onto waiver wire
Shouldn't the Sox be willing to give Ruiz $17.5M from 15-16 and/or Utley $12M in 15?

Ebola Virus
CDC is a very secure facility, plus this is not an airborne virus. It's not like you're going to catch ebola if you are out working in your yard somewhere between the airport and the CDC and the guy sneezes while going by in the car.

Phillies dump day onto waiver wire
What each of these is owed (assuming that club options are not picked up but vesting options vest): Hamels: $7.5M this year plus $96M from 15-18 (That's a lot of money owed, but he probably gets claimed) Papelbon: $4.33M this year plus $26M from 15-16 (He might get claimed) Ruiz: $2.83M this year plus $17.5M from 15-16 (He probably gets claimed) Byrd: $2.67M this year plus $16M from 15-16 (He almost certainly gets claimed) Utley: $5M this year plus $12M in 15 (He almost certainly gets claimed) Rollins: $3.67M this year plus $11M in 15 (He probably gets claimed) So yeah, while all these guys are expensive, for the most part they are producing near, at, or above what they are getting paid. I would think Papelbon has the best chance of clearing waivers. I doubt either gets through the NL, but I don't see any reason the Sox shouldn't put claims on Ruiz and Utley.

Pedro Alvarez
Why would the Sox replace Dunn with a guy who (1) would require talent to acquire and (2) has an OPS 100 points worse than Dunn.

Flowers and his magic glasses
Those are full season stats, whereas the debate is whether or not using glasses if affecting his performance. We are going to need a larger post-glasses sample size before we can know for sure. If the premise is that glasses are affecting his performance, then his BABIP pre-glasses doesn't mean s***.

That's a White Sox Winner!!!
All this fretting over the bullpen when all we need to do is schedule games to start 2:15 before it starts raining.
-
Rangers @ Sox 7:10 CST
So nobody can throw stuff at him in RF.

Is this bullpen Rick Hahn's fault?
Not even close to the right context there.
-
Is this bullpen Rick Hahn's fault?
Liking a trade that sent a Sox player away does not equal hate for the player or the person. This kind of hyperbole is why nobody likes you.
-
Rangers @ Sox 7:10 CST
Sox: Eaton 8, Ramirez 6, Abreu 3, Dunn DH, Viciedo 9, Gillaspie 5, Beckham 4, DeAza 7, Flowers 2; Noesi 1

Is this bullpen Rick Hahn's fault?
I just saw him pitch a few weeks ago. 1.2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K

Why would you start a gamethread within 10 days of going on vacation? That's just asking for trouble.
