Official NHL 2014-15 Thread

Re: Vegas I will need to do some digging, but I'm pretty sure I've seen labor reports that indicate that Vegas has a much higher percentage of residents who work 2nd shift compared to other major cities. Regardless of whether you are relying on tourists or locals to fill the stadiums and watch games on TV, you have an awful lot of them who are already busy during the hours that sporting events are typically played. It's almost like you have to treat Vegas as a metro area that is 20-30% smaller than it really is because of the unavailability of the population during the evening hours. -
At what point is this season not considered a success?
cabiness42 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I look at the season this way: when the Sox signed Paulie for one more year, that was a clear sign to me that the Sox had no belief that they could contend this year. They knew they had a good core in Sale, Quintana, Abreu, Garcia and Eaton. The rest of the roster was essentially tryouts to see who gets to stick around for 2015 and who gets further attention. Gillaspie and Ramirez earned the right to stay. Noesi and Flowers aren't ideal but may have done enough to earn another year. De Aza, Viciedo, and pretty much then entire bullpen have failed and will need to be replaced, and of course Beckham is already gone. This is a successful season because the Sox have figured out for sure who needs to stay and who needs to go. There are very few question marks left. -
I blame Obamacare.
-
No, look how great he's doing. Don't change anything now. Tiger Woods' performance went in the tank when he stopped sleeping around. We can't risk having the same thing happen with Marcus.
-
Thank you very much for that site. So it does seem that Jordan can be sent to Charlotte again next year. Dude has to be elite level frequent flyer by now.
-
Jordan played for the Sox in 2012, so he had to have been added to the 40 in 2012 at the latest. That said, if he wasn't added to the 40 until he was called up and then stayed up the rest of the season, then 2012 would not count as an option year. If anybody knows of a site that includes a detailed transaction history on players, I would love to hear about it.
-
It goes by years, not by the number of times you are sent down. Once you are sent down once during a year, that burns one option year and it doesn't matter how many times you go up and down that year.
-
It's about that time of the year again...

Yes, playing Tank is a good way to try and lose games. -
http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/ticket...cial_events.jsp Sox website lists all of the codes as well. Nothing listed yet for 9/13 or 9/28 9/27 has UNIV and also BCN. Depends on whether you want to pretend to be a college student or a construction worker.
-
Normally, when you are sent down you can't come back up for at least 10 days, but is there an exception to that rule with the Sept. 1 roster expansion? Otherwise he can't come back up until Sept. 5.

2014-2015 NCAA football thread

Two degrees, but taught classes while working on my master's and also later on as an adjunct. Don't have to have a PhD. to teach 100 level classes at most big schools. -
I also have an advanced system that provides a 10 second notice before an earthquake. It has four legs and purrs.
-
I agree that there is no logic in a defensive position change affecting a player's offense, yet it seems to happen often. I have no idea why.
-
I don't remember anybody saying that about Rudy. I do remember some talk about Hilary, but there isn't another Obama out there this time.
-
Does it really matter? Short of Hillary getting implicated in some very major scandal between now and Nov 2016, there isn't a Republican candidate that can beat her. Romney won't fare any worse than Perry, Paul, Rubio, Bush, Christie or whoever else gets nominated.
-
I get that the US and international teams are kept in separate brackets in order to ensure a US vs International final, but I think this gives a huge advantage to the International teams. There usually a lot of weak teams in the international bracket, and the team coming out of there almost always burns through less pitching to reach the final compared to the US champion. I don't know if there is a way to remedy this, but if you are a US team and you want to win this thing, you better have an awful lot of pitching depth.

Aside from ND, I have attended two BIG universities and also taught math classes at two. The math classes I taught at both schools were well below the lowest level of math offered at ND. -
I'd rather have the PTBNL, even if it's a reliever who is a long shot to be fixed by Coop.
-
I doubt there has been any moments since last November that the Sox wouldn't have traded him for a reasonable return.

Well, I'm sure just about any college can tack terms like "literature" or "philosophy" on about any course, those courses at ND require an awful lot of writing and critical thinking. I was a math major and the amount of writing I had to do in all those classes was pure torture. -

Postseason rankings are much less biased than preseason or even mid-season. Still, over the entirety of the last 25 years, where would you rank ND's body of work? Is the 20-30 range fair? Even if you think it should be lower than 30, it's still going to be higher than Northwestern, Miami, or any other school you can come up with where athletes are held to similar academic standards as ND. Stanford is the only school in that group that has a football program that matches up with ND, even as bad as they have been since Holtz left. -

I'm not talking about the entire history of college football, but singling out a group of less than 60 individual games and using that as the standard is awfully restrictive. Since their last championship in '88, ND has had six top ten final rankings, including three top five. There are plenty of teams who have won BCS bowl games that can't claim that. -

So in order to win your argument, you have to condense the entire history of college football into 4-5 games a year for the last 15 years. I guess if that's what it takes. -

I don't really have the time to look up all the schools. If there is a particular school you think that has similar academic standards for athletes AND football achievement as ND, I'd be happy to discuss it. -

I think I noted in an earlier post. There are schools that hold their athletes to high academic standards, and there are schools that have had a high level of success on the field. There are very few schools that have done both. I can make you a Venn diagram if you need it.
