  1. Stupid trivia question on the Sox FB page: Eight Sox players are rooting for six different teams in the World Cup. 2 each for Brazil and Colombia, and one each for France, Mexico, Argentina, and the US. Now Rienzo-Brazil and Quintana-Columbia are obvious. I'm guessing Guerra-Mexico even though he is from Texas. There are a bunch of Sox players from the US and I don't know any of them to be big soccer fans in particular. I'm totally stumped on France and Argentina.
  2. Isn't the 2500 PA of below avg production also going to weigh heavier for the teams making the offers? Selling high isn't as easy as it sounds because teams don't like to buy high.
  3. If the order of the games had been reversed, yes, but I think the US is very focused on beating the first opponent.
  4. I think you're missing some points somewhere. Don't forget it's 3 points for a win and 1 point for a tie.
  5. I saw a computer simulation run where the US, Germany, and Portugal all beat Ghana and then tied with each other. US ended up 3rd on goal differential. That would be a very disgusting way to finish 3rd in a group.
  6. Brandt Snedeker first to get home under par (-1). Seven on the course at -1 or -2, including Phil at -1 through 15.
  7. USPS does not get money directly from the government, but the government pays retired employee pension and health benefits, so there is government support.
  8. I never wanted to do either thing.
  9. How many of those houses have a pink Cheetos car?
  10. I am hesitant to post articles from sources known to be partisan to either side, but I think this one does make some good points. http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/38010...arles-c-w-cooke
  11. With 66 games now complete, the Sox have yet to be more than 2 games over .500 or more than 3 games under .500 at any point during the season. Predictions: After which game during the season (if at all) does this streak end? Which way, up or down, will it be broken? I say that Thursday, June 19, the Sox reach 3 games over for the first time.
  12. I read a bit more detail about Nate's SPI that is used to rank teams. For some players, the SPI takes into account league performance when calculating the strength of the team. The reason that it's some players is that data is only used for the top European leagues (England, Germany, Spain, Italy and France). If you don't have players in those leagues, they don't get credit for club performance. In general, the theory seems plausible since if your national team players were good enough to play in those leagues, they would. However, the US is a bit of an exception since we are trying to make MLS better and by doing that we need players who are good enough to play in Europe playing here. So you have Clint Dempsey and Michael Bradley playing in MLS (and yes, I know they both played in Europe for a while) and not getting credit in the SPI. You can argue that they may lose some edge by not facing elite talent, but their value doesn't go all the way down to zero just by playing in MLS. In short, I think the SPI underrates the US.
  13. I'm all for more tax dollars for highways, but if they're going to cut post office funding than at least cut service back to five days.
  14. Yeah, I would block everybody else's view and nobody would be able to find her.
  15. You couldn't have told me this 4 hours ago when I could have left in time to get to the game?
  16. Is he going to leave anything left to offer over slot to anybody else?
  17. Yeah but if Rodon doesn't sign then the Sox lose his slot money so there's still not enough moeny for de Oca.
  18. I don't expect you to care about who she's dating, but every 60-70 year old guy I know enjoys looking at pictures of Kate Upton.
  19. Honestly I don't want to see any pieces added unless they are salary dumps where the Sox are only sending B-C level talent in the deal. That or just straight waiver claims. The rotation isn't nearly strong enough to warrant going all-out for this season.
  20. As long as the Sox remain in this holding pattern a few games out of the WC and division leads, I don't see any big trades going down. I don't think they are are willing to trade top prospects for rentals, or even if they have the top prospects to do that. I don't think they are willing to sell off guys who have the potential to contribute next year or beyond. I think a Dunn deal is the only deal done.
  21. How is any heterosexual American male with an internet connection not aware of who Kate Upton is?
  22. Danks really should be the 4th OF on this team. The problem is that the weakest spot in the OF right now is De Aza, who also bats left-handed. That's the only reason Sierra has the 4th OF spot over Danks. In, the AL, you really don't need your 4th OF to hit much. You need him mostly for pinch-running and as a defensive replacement, and Danks is great at both those things. I have no problem with Danks at AAA right now, but next year he's out of options and I'd hate to lose a guy who has late inning value just because other people on the team suck. I do think De Aza will end up with an OPS close to .700 by the end of the season. He's always been pretty streaky.
  23. Well you can go up to 5% over without losing draft picks. There is a financial penalty for every dollar over up to 5%, but that really shouldn't be a concern.
