  1. That's not allowed. This team is required to remain between 2 over and 3 under for the entire season.
  2. http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/bre...0,2270841.story
  3. Thus endeth any discussion about the Sox ever signing Brian Wilson.
  4. It's a very small sample size, but lefties are hitting 0-32 with 2BB and 15K.
  5. I can't wait until people start clamoring for Notre Dame to change their nickname. That one will be epic.
  6. 23% of the errors were by players not currently on the active roster.
  7. Except that the amount of commercial time during a game varies only with the number of mid-inning pitching changes. Assuming the same number of pitching changes, a 3½ hour game has the same amount of commercial time as a 2½ hour game. TV should like shorter games
  8. I'll take one pennant and World Series championship over zero.
  9. You want the Sox to start losing every single playoff series they're ever in?
  10. I just showed you how he hasn't been consistent. He's been reliable, but not consistent.
  11. First of all, Buehrle seems like the kind of guy who will get as far away from baseball fields as possible upon retiring. Secondly, while "ace" is a subjective measure, I think you can at least say that he has not had the consistency you would like from an ace. In 13 full seasons, he has had: An ERA+ of 130+ 3 times An ERA+ of 115-129 6 times An ERA+ of 100-114 4 times An ERA+ below 100 1 time I don't think of a guy with 38% of his seasons with an ERA+ below 115 as an ace. We all remember 2001, 2005 and 2007 really well but seem to gloss over 2003, 2006 and 2010.
  12. I definitely think the game needs to be sped up, but I don't think it has a major impact on attendance. If I am going to commit a day to go to a game, I'm going to go regardless of whether the game lasts 2½ hours or 3½ hours. The length of the game is more likely to impact whether or not I'll watch on TV.
  13. Taking a catcher = bad Taking a 31 year old catcher = incompetent This is just to stoke discussion. If Buster Olney were actually making the 28th pick, there's no chance he takes Molina.
  14. At no point during this season have the Sox been more than 2 games over .500 or more than 3 games under .500.
  15. Right, but what has changed? The people on the take are still hold the majority of the votes. The only thing that could work is for UEFA and CONMEBOL to threaten to leave FIFA and start their own organization, which would effectively end FIFA. That's the only leverage anybody has.
  16. No, I meant back to back, as in consecutive plate appearances. Go face sale throwing his high 90s fastball and nasty slider in the 1st inning and then come up in the 3rd and have to deal with the high 70s changeup.
  17. I don't believe for a minute that FIFA would do that. Sure there are a handful of naive officials, but the organization is too corrupt to go back on their "deal" with Qatar.
  18. The only thing that can stop this is for UEFA and CONMEBOL to decide to leave FIFA and form their own organization. I don't see FIFA cleaning themselves up internally.
  19. Can you imagine what that would do to NL hitters having to face Sale and Buehrle back to back?
  20. I will make it through about 2 innings. I really hate the Eastern Time Zone.
  21. I liken Buehrle to Russel Wilson. The book on pitching is that you have to throw 94+ in order to make it as a pitcher. The book on QBs is that you have to be 6' 2" or taller to make it. They are the exceptions to the rule, but I don't believe that they disprove the rule. I don't disagree that an elite fastball or height are vital components to success. It's not impossible to succeed if you don't have them, but you have to be nearly perfect in all other aspects of your game in order to make up for those shortcomings. There aren't going to suddenly be dozens more Buehrles and Wilsons coming along. It's just way too difficult to succeed with their skillsets and they are unique men.
  22. They're losing an awful lot of 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 games.
  23. This whole thing has me very perplexed. A US soldier and supposedly a Taliban sympathizer, just goes AWOL from his unit and gets "captured". Then, five years later, the US gives up five very dangerous terrorists in order to get this guy back? I am not one of those who believes any of the right wing Obama conspiracy BS, but this one has me very concerned.
