He still spends two years from age 16-18 more or less in isolation in this treatment facility, where he won't be able to drink, drive, or see any of his friends. Plus, his parents are out nearly a million bucks, when it really does seem like they are root of the problem. Plus, he's still on probation until he's 26 so he has to be very careful afterwards or he's going to get a prison term anyway. I'm not sure I buy their rationale as a legal defense, but the sentence isn't as light as it sounds.

Some goals for the Bears to (not) shoot for: Last time a team had consecutive winning seasons without making the playoffs either season was Miami in 2002-03. Last time a team swept their interconference games (4-0) but failed to make the playoffs was New England in 2008. Most points scored by a team that failed to make the playoffs (since playoff expansion to 12 teams) is 483 by Kansas City in 2004.

.400 OBP is not a realistic goal for him. In the minors there is enough bad pitching that you can get a big OBP just by being patient and not swinging at bad pitches, but in the majors you have to have some serious power to get walked enough to have a .400 OBP. I looked it up, and in the last ten years, the three lowest SLG totals for a hitter who had a .400+ OBP season are Nick Johnson .405, and Joe Mauer .446 and .451. I don't see Eaton ever slugging .446 or better in the majors, so there is one case in the last ten years of somebody hitting .400 OBP with a SLG that Eaton can reasonably attain. Not faulting the kid for having goals, but it ain't happenin'.
