  1. My cousin is a HS geography teacher and for the past few years, as a tie-in to US geography, he has the class create an NCAA tournament bracket that has exactly one team from each state and DC, with the exception of Alaska since there are no DI teams there. To eliminate the subjectivity in selecting teams, they used this weeks coaches poll for the Top 25 and the RPI for rest of the teams as their criteria for selecting the team from each state and then to rank the selected teams 1-50. Teams are then seeded and placed into four regions, except that to keep the geography theme stronger, he doesn't include any rules about teams from the same conference, avoiding rematches, etc. This is what they came up with:
  2. Yes, there are many people that still blame the victim, but there are also many who are not blaming the victim but having their words misinterpreted. There's nothing wrong with proactively pointing out that a certain activity puts you at higher risk for victimization.
  3. Being able to make that much money on that little talent means you're at least somewhat good at life.
  4. Some people don't even switch allegiances for their undergrad school. I have a friend whose family is from East Lansing and the parents both work at MSU. One of the kids went to Michigan just to get some distance from home but he remained a die hard MSU fan. A lot of people in Indiana are IU hoops and ND football fans and remain that way even if they go to one of the two schools.
  5. I look at it like this: The Sox are not winning the World Series in the next 5 years if Sale isn't healthy, so if he gets injured for one or more of those years the lost money isn't going to make a difference. However, if he's healthy for those five years, there will be a little bit more money available to help improve the team around him.
  6. I went to MSU for grad school and it became my second favorite school, but I still root for ND whenever they play.
  7. Over/under for Keith Law ripping the Sox for giving Sale a 5-year deal: 4.5 hours
  8. Very interesting reading people's posts of excitement and congratulations on a work promotion inter-mixed with a guy's discussion about getting a vasectomy.
  9. Tex is only out 8-10 weeks and we're still 3½ weeks away from the start of the season, so there's no way they give up anything valuable for someone who will be on the bench for 3/4 of the season.
  10. ½ inch of snow on the ground here. Schools delayed 2 hours. Some places down here got 2 whole inches of snow and cancelled school completely.
  11. This Konerko guy isn't bad. He might be useful this year.
  12. I'd much rather trudge through a foot of snow to work than work a day in June without AC.
  13. All games in Hartford, CT. Despite four Final Fours and a National Championship, ND has never won the BIG EAST Tournament--until now. First Round 3/8: 12 Seton Hall 60, 13 Cincinnati 55 10 Marquette 66, 15 Pittsburgh 43 11 Georgetown 81, 14 Providence 61 Second Round 3/9: 5 Saint John's 51, 12 Seton Hall 45 8 South Florida 42, 9 Rutgers 39 7 DePaul 77, 10 Marquette 69 6 Villanova 89, 11 Georgetown 58 Quarterfinals 3/10: 4 Louisville 62, 5 Saint John's 55 1 Notre Dame 75, 8 South Florida 66 2 Connecticut 94, 7 Depaul 61 3 Syracuse 61, 6 Villanova 56 Semifinals 3/11: 1 Notre Dame 83, 4 Louisville 59 2 Connecticut 64, 3 Syracuse 51 Championship 3/12: 1 Notre Dame 71, 2 Connecticut 69
  14. Maybe if hid pitches had some movement instead of being straight . . .
  15. Cheaper? Yes. But I know people for whom it would not be easier.
  16. Or you could just move south.
  17. During my lunch hour, I have two options for sports on the radio. One is Cowherd. The other is a show called Kentucky Sports Radio that is 90% about UK basketball even during the offseason. I am not nor ever have been a Kentucky fan, but I choose to listen to the Kentucky show because Cowherd is THAT unbearable.
  18. I have a hard time understanding why the Sox would trade for a guy who is out of options, requiring them to remove a guy from the 40-man roster who was not out of options, if they weren't pretty certain he was going to make the team.
  19. Yeah, I heard that every hitter in the history of major league baseball continues his numbers from his first 400 at bats throughout his entire career. None of them ever improve.
  20. Wow. My cousin is a state cop in Indiana and if you aren't at least 12 over the speed limit they won't even look up from their coffee. Besides, the way traffic laws are in Indiana they make about 3x as much money from ticketing semis as cars, so some will even ignore cars speeding up to 20 over just to not take time away from the opportunity to pull over a semi.
