  1. Obviously both sides are guilty of wrongdoing. That being said I am finding hard to find empathy. Mike Brown was doing stereotypical black male actions. He was not minding his own business. He was doing criminal acts, not that the cop that shot him knew that. Now I'm not condoning the use lethal force on the kid but cops are human too. A lot of the decisions they have to make have to be quick where hesitation can get you or others killed. I think people that believe that all cops kill blacks kids for lolz are being disingenuous. Mike Brown is a tragedy but sadly s*** like this goes on everyday. Does that mean we accept it? No, but the looting, civil disobedience, and overall chaos in Ferguson is not going to bring that kid back.
  2. Time to send in the drones.
  3. QUOTE (1dog @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 12:37 AM) I'll buy him a beer, he saved me like 1k for not allowing that wild pitch to get past and for the runner to score to make it 10-9. I stupidly bet sox runline. Woohoo I agree.
  4. I had a damn typo in my email. I tripled checked it and still missed it. Oh well. This might backfire.
  5. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 10:33 PM) Anyone ever use Airbnb? Yes, what do you need to know about it?
  6. Well bollocks. I just haven't been doing that. Not that I know whether it would make or break it. I had an interview today so I'll be sure to send a follow-up email stating my gratitude for the interview and their time. It was a company based in New Zealand so I had a couple of cute girls interviewing me with those accents.
  7. Silly question, but could a thank you gesture of any sort make or break an individual getting a position?
  8. Is it a common practice to mail thank you cards to your interviewer(s)?
  9. Good or bad is subjective. It's like asking is morality relative or universal. An honor killing could be considered a good act by some and bad by others. No black and white, just grey.
  10. Meh they won 2 of 3, if they did that the rest of the way, I'm sure noone would complain.
  11. Fun game I was there. Was the upside down K for Eaton legit because he seemed pretty pissed.
  12. Not sure if there is a topic for this but If there is, I figure the admins will make quick work of it. What is the generally rule of thumb regarding rent and your salary? (i.e. Rent should not exceed 1/3 of your gross monthly salary)
  13. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 04:15 PM) Back to this for a second, if they take the $80 or whatever "settlement" (I call it theft) you come up with, make sure your GF sends them a letter or a confirmation email explaining the deal and expressly stating that's all that she owes. They should get the application fee since they ran a check on us. They gave her all of it back minus $280. I think now that she has her money she can be a little more aggressive?
  14. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 06:51 PM) I have to tell you, I'm looking in a different location for apartments and I never saw a single one that didn't require the deposit alongside the application with the only way of getting it back being a rejected application. Well what state are you in again?
  15. http://www.onlinechicagorealestate.com/ren...ago-c13176.html From this site: This information is the nail in the coffin for them.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 15, 2014 -> 05:45 PM) I'd tell them she's willing to pay $80 for the two application fees or else she's going to have her lawyer make it much more expensive for them. I'd do the same but they really think they have a case with this signed application. I'm just not sure how much merit it holds since I'm not a lawyer. Seriously though, if they think they are so sure fire, why are they trying to settle?
  17. They are going to charge her for the application fees $40 each and 2 days of rent $100/day. Funny considering the place was like $1550/month which on a 30 day average would be $51.67/day. So They are going to refund all but $280 per their recorded conversation today. I told her to go for the jugular because them trying to settle just reeks of them knowing that if they would be taken to court, they would be fleeced. Can I get a lawyer with a linkedin account to look at the profiles of these two individuals just to see if we can scare them?
  18. QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 08:51 PM) Technically, based entirely on the application, they aren't doing anything wrong. But I think something is amiss with the "damages." They didn't actually have any loss since they filled the spot for the same time period. This is a penalty for reneging. Had you done something to prevent them from renting by August 1, then they are right. Here, though, I think you might have a case. And don't feel too bad. We've all been there in one way or another. I blame myself for not reading the fine print. But in reality, I just filled out another application for residency today and it was no where near as filled with similar jargon. The management company and the leasing agent have extremely bad reviews on yelp too. It seems they have a history of doing this bulls***.
  19. I feel like such an idiot. I generally read things but I have filled out applications for apartments/condos before and have never ever ran into something so shady in my life. Lesson learned to read everything even if it's an application.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 05:32 PM) This is just BS...wtf is the $408 for again? There is no way the $408 can be just the application fee, is it? "Do not complete this application unless you are willing to deposit first month's rent now, sign a lease, and when lease is signed, pay full security deposit if the landlord accepts your application." WHAT? There is a term for this type of contract...I can't recall it, but I vaguely remember the concept from law school. Wtf is the point of the application if you have to be willing to deposit a month's rent, sign a lease, and pay a full security deposit IF the landlord accepts your application? Why not just be signing the lease to begin with if you have to be agreeing to the same terms regardless? Where is the consideration on the part of the landlord for you forking over all this money? The landlord can essentially just hold your month's rent for the pleasure of determining he would like to accept it. Unconscionable contract of adhesion? The amount of days the unit was off the market. Basically they are charging us for rent for the days it was off the market. Funny right considering we signed no lease. I really think they'll blink if we have a lawyer send them a letter.
  21. Well here's the kicker. No lease was signed. All the info she gave them was a credit authorization form. The guy didn't even give us copies of any of the documents. So I have no idea if he added information.
  22. Not sure if I'll get in trouble for this but here is the form. http://www.apartmentsourcechicago.com/wp-c...Application.pdf
