  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) I was going to say, he's already traded Flowers. He clearly is making a statement but we don't know who he truly feels are his top prospects. Kenny has always said he doesn't trade guys on his 3 year organizational board but he's often traded top prospects and only once or twice has he indicated that the guys he dealt were on that board. And if they aren't going to trade top prospects, don't freaking trade him. Dye has an affordable contract is great in the clubhouse and has been one of the top performing outfielders during his tenure with the White Sox. We are dealing from a position of strength and there is no reason to move him (this is the opposite of the Swisher/Vazquez deals). Although you could make the case that we didn't have to deal Vazquez but after the comments Ozzie made we had to. Well, would you say Dye's on his 3 year organizational board? He has 1 year left on his deal, with an option for 2010, and I doubt he'd stick around after that. You have to remember, the overall package for Swisher was what a lot of people thought was "weak" (but let's wait til Marquez learns a cutter before we pass judgement). Maybe the Sox's financial issues are so bad, that they have to dump Dye's contract, because other teams won't trade for Konerko or Thome. Hence, they may take a little less in prospects than what is considered fair I guess (or at least KW targets guys who aren't as highly rated as what he thinks).
  2. I just heard on the phone that our cat back home got runover by a car last week. Safe to say, she didn't exactly have 9 lives.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:47 PM) How do we know that the Braves wouldn't actually give up Hansen? I don't think we necessarily do, maybe they just wouldn't give up Hansen because of the other members involved in the deal. Wren came out and said this a few weeks back; Of course that's before he traded Flowers, but Brian McCann was blocking him of course.
  4. I'd do Wade Davis for Dye, but certainly not Sonnastine. Of course, I'd only want to trade Dye IF you signed a short term replacement such as Bobby Abreu in the FA market.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) For establishing again why it's vital that KW shut up in the press and focus on improving this team for 2009. He's done enough for the long term health of this organization, but there's holes to fill for this current team. Well the Sox did terribly in 2007 and KW did something about it. We did well last season, and it didn't seem that the bad year we had in 2007 really negatively impacted our attendance for 2008 IIRC.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) Just like Josh Rupe was the "wildcard" when we traded him...or Matt Guerrier was going to be "the next Maddux" according to McClendon and the Pirates' GM at the time. Yeah, they really ripped off KW and gave up that Marte kid, who they weren't even going to keep on the roster because of a numbers game in the bullpen. If Carlos Torres lights the world on fire with the Royals, it will be the first time a young White Sox starting prospect has amounted TO ANYTHING this decade, unless you want to count Brandon McCarthy. That's Dan Cortes I assume you're thinking about?
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) Why would the Sox go from discussing a guy who was a top 10 prospect at a given point in time to talking about a guy like Morton who has a live arm but is pretty much a project. That would be an awful deal for the Sox. You want to make a deal with the braves and it starts with Shaffer or Hansen and potentially includes another guy or two. Consider this from the Braves P.O.V then. They don't give up Hanson for Peavy. Why would they then give up Hanson for 1 season of an aging corner OF, when they could just go out and sign Bobby Abreu instead? Hanson's stock is much higher than say Bailey's is ATM, even though I think Bailey could turn out to be the better pitcher. I'd love to get Hanson for Dye, I just don't think it's very realistic.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) I think its pretty obvious KW has someone ready to sign for big money or the White Sox are having serious financial issues and Dye's contract needs to get off the books. I'm hoping it's the former, but in the current economic crisis, who knows what the Sox Brass may have done with the money that they may have made over the past few seasons (invest in the sharemarket for instance, which has gone downhill to say the least).
  9. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) I can't imagine anyone disagreeing with you. Bailey was on of the top prospects in baseball just a year ago. Some people may want more of a sure thing in 2009 for the back end of the rotation. Bailey may still need another season (e.g what Floyd first went through in 2007) to get everything together.
  10. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) I'd expect Blanco the least likely to be dealt. He's shown he can play CF, hit MLB pitching and walk whereas Schafer just got busted for roids. They still might want to hang on to Schafer, but I could see him falling down the depth chart quickly. That said, if Schafer isn't on the table (since Heyward and Hanson won't be and Blanco is unlikely) I'd like a Morton + Gorkys package, and if possible and the Braves are really down on JoJo, send a low-level prospect in the deal and pick him up too. Hence why I think Blanco could be an excellent long - term fit for us in CF, if we're still looking for a leadoff hitter. And Frank Wren's not afraid to deal younger players, we've certainly seen that over his time as GM. But Morton and Gorkys could certainly be attainable. Might be time to change your username also.
  11. Yeah, I'd certainly rather have Bailey instead of Jackson. And I know some people may think I'm crazy for that, but Jackon's numbers scare me, I think his ERA would rise at the Cell, and Bailey is younger, cheaper and I think has far more potential.
  12. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) I thought a big part of the deal falling apart was because Peavy didnt want Escobar going to the Pads in the return? Well that as well, but the Braves could have always signed a replacement. I think if Hanson was available, a trade would have been done.
  13. I forgot about Hernandez, he's a legit leadoff OF prospect. Gregor Blanco could be a guy I think we could go after. Morton and Reyes are 2 other big possibilities. Don't know if the Braves will deal Schafer, especially if they deal Francouer.
  14. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) Any chance Atlanta is willing to part with Jair Jurrjens? Highly doubt it. They've been after 2 SP's all off-season, and they'd have to go after another if they dealt Jurrjens.
  15. Hanson is off limits. If he was available, Jake Peavy would be a Brave already. My guess is we're after one of these 3 players at least as part of a deal; Gregor Blanco (leadoff CF) Charlie Morton Jo-Jo Reyes
  16. Dayton Moore loves his Atlanta guys. Francouer is cheaper than Grienke I think, which could be KC's motivation. I love the move for the Braves if it happens though.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) You want upgrades at tackle after Colombo is resigned. Ouchies. Yeah saw that, 22M over 4 years. To be fair, Colombo's a pretty good scrapper, and has been a pretty solid tackle for us. Flozell Adams has been bad this season, and I think we need to draft a LT in the 1st 3 rounds to succeed him. All in all, I'd say safety and nose tackle are probably bigger needs.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:14 PM) I really kind of want this trade to happen now. I'm really excited at the possibility of all these young arms panning out, plus I'd love to than see Kenny go out and sign an Abreu & Furcal or a Dunn & Furcal. Man would that be awesome. No idea how the team will pan out next year cause with Bailey you have no idea, the rotation might just go up in flames, but man would there be some fun young players on this squad and there I love watching young players develop and perform (hopefully they perform). I too would want the trade to happen, but ONLY if KW goes out and signs a replacement in FA on a short - term 2 year deal. And with the Sox dumping big contracts left, right and center, I'm a little worried that they may not go out there and actually do that (despite the payroll going up consistently over the past 6 seasons).
  19. To say JD hasn't been consistent until 2008 is pretty stupid if you ask me. If you say just because he only hit 2 HR's in September this season, he's not consistent, why don't you cherry pick stats and look at how bad he was when he first signed in 2005 and was downright terrible for the 1st 6 weeks after that? What about the the 1st half of 2007? It's just unlike say a Paul Konerko, Dye has been consistent over a full season. OPS's above .800 for 4 straight seasons.
  20. Baseball - Pittsburgh Pirates. Ice Hockey - Florida Panthers Football - Detroit Lions Basketball - Minnesota Timberwolves
  21. Ibanez will probably go to the Mets I'd say. Minaya's a big fan, and they need better production from LF then what they got from last season. Dunn would be very interesting, but I'm not sure the Sox need another low BA power hitter. He'll go to the Nats I'll say. Abreu's probably the most likely, but his defense has really gone downhill, and he'd probably want to stick in RF I'd say. Rivera's OPS's have gone down over the past couple of seasons from 2006. Big wildcard though. Possible option. I'd like Hermida as he's got a lot of room to improve, but I'll always worried trading with Larry Beinfest. They always seem to do well in trades (the Olsen / Willingham deal aside). It wouldn't actually shock me if we made a move for Griffey Jr. to bring him back on a 1 year deal. He had a bad knee which sapped a lot of his power, he has an excellent K/BB ratio, and something around a .775 OPS would be very possible for him at least, which for about $4M isn't too bad. Plus he'll put bums back in seats again as a big name, which is important in the current economic crisis.
  22. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 04:10 AM) I'll miss Dye. He signed with the Sox for less than market value. He honored a verbal agreement with KW to sign even after Texas offered more money than the Sox. He drove in the winning run in Game 4 (was MVP) of the '05 Series, gave his body up in RF all the time, and WAS a clutch hitter, no matter what anyone says. PS he lead the team in BA last season and averaged over 30 HRs every year that he's been with the Sox. I wish that Thome could go and he would stay. Agreed. Besides CQ this season, Dye's probably been my favorite hitter for the Sox over the past few seasons. He never complained, he took less $$$ when he could have gotten a bigger pay-day elsewhere, and I think he's been argubly Kenny Williams' best signing as a free agent. Made losing Maggilo Ordonez easier to stomach when we got similar production from JD. If he was moved, I'd be sad for those sentimental reasons, but I know KW is trying to get younger here, which is what a lot of people have complained about over the past few years about our aging core. I think Bailey + spect would be a good haul for Dye if you could get it, but then sign at least a LF to replace JD for 2 seasons. A rotation of Buerhle, Danks, Floyd, Bailey and Marquez / Richard looks better though.
  23. Shows how desperate Jon Daniels is for young pitching that may actually mean something some day (too bad bout Danks and Volquez huh). Decent enough move from Dombrowski. Now they just have to fill the SS hole (OC's there for ya).
