QUOTE(ROC Sox Fan @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) Is there a downloadable copy of the show? http://www.soxtalk.com/podcasts/ Don't think it's been uploaded yet though.

So what other places besides Chicago can you view the streets of?

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 12:24 PM) Bonds, Hunter, and Jones would be other power options they could buy without parting with any talent. Hunter and Jones I would cross out because they signed Garry Matthews Jr. to play CF, and I don't know if they'd ask him to move to a corner after 1 season. So Bonds is probably the best bet there.

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 12:07 PM) I agree. This deal would be completely slanted in the Sox favor. Look past the HR totals and factor in park effects and defense -- Kotchman is as good as Konerko right now and $12M cheaper. A year of Garland at $12M certainly isn't more valuable than Shields & Figgins. This would be a great trade for the Sox. So great that there's no way LAA does this. They are a smart conservative organization with money. They can just buy a bat and 4th starter and keep the talent. Why wold they do this trade? Depends how desperate Arte Moreno is right now. If they can't get A-Rod, my guess is he forces Stoneman to make a big deal. Remember they were after a big bat last off-season and they ended up with Garry Matthews Jr.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 10:49 AM) To follow up on CWS's perspective on Konerko and the trade. Would it be feasible to trade Garland for Figgins and Shields? Depends on the other offers you would get. For example if the Sox could get a good young SS for Garland such as Chin - Lung Hu, I'd probably head down that path. That said, if Shields got back to his dominant form, and Figgins could produce as he did this season going into the future, I would probably make that deal.

QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 02:16 PM) Bad Romo was better than Bad Rex.... but after that game the luster of Rex's fast start wore off and teams started to really challenge him. Romo is more mobile and has better weapons.... but the Patriots are going to be biggest test of his career.... 4/5 ints is a possibility next week too. "Go ahead, Crown their butts." "The Cowboys are whom we believed them to be." Buffalo played a lot of deep zone and loaded up on coverage on Romo's favorite receiver in Witten from what I've read. Romo finally spreaded the ball around late and it paid dividends. So that's what he's gotta do next week. If he focuses on 1 guy against the Pats, it could be ugly again.
-
Bad Romo = Still got the job done.
-
For taking Nick Folk in the 6th round this year, thank you Cowboys. How the hell you can overcome a 5INT game AND a kickoff return for a TD and still win, astounds me. At least Romo still almost got 300 yards passing, so he wasn't gunshy. Oh and Jason Witten is good, very good.
-
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
If Edwards keeps playing like this, are the Bills actually going to put Losman back in when he's healthy? The game's all on Romo right now. It's the 1st time since the Seattle debacle that it's really gone downhill for him, let's see if he can respond.
-
He's beyond horrible tonight. Wite must have put some sort of curse on him tonight. Don't know what has happened to him. Somehow we're still within 2 scores.
-
So wite, you excited that the Bills are actually going to be on MNF, and do you give them much of a chance tonight?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) s***, I loved playing last years game (I only had the demo, but friends had the game and we'd play it all the time). Is Winning Eleven some other soccre game? Hopefully the good reviews are an indication that this years game is even better. Winning Eleven's also called Pro Evolution Soccer. It's made by Konami, and their games have certainly been better than FIFA over the past 5 or so years, presentation wise and the controls. But it sounds like FIFA has certainly begun to catch up based on this year's effort. The main thing I've heard about FIFA are the skills you can do with the analog sticks now, so if you were controlling say Ronaldo, Tevez, Rooney etc. you can do all of those fancy dribbles, fakes etc. They've also made a susperstar mode, where you only control 1 player in a team. So say if you were a Central Defender it would be quite boring, but apparently it's not. 1st time they've ever done that in a soccer game I think.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 8, 2007 -> 02:38 PM) If the club is going to go after an outfielder, I'd much rather go after the Cuban outfielder (Alexi Ramirez or whatever his name is). Would be nice to know how he could handle CF defensively (I think he can play 2B as well, which could be very handy if we kept Richar as a starter), but I agree he's certainly someone we'll have a look at, as a backup option to Rowand or Hunter. If we kept Contreras on our team, I'd say our chances of signing him would certainly increase as well. I think we'll try to sign a Japanese reliever as well, so we could make a couple of "international" acquisitions this off-season. Some of those "smart" moves that KW made in the 04-05 off-season for instance.
-
Wow, I don't think anyone saw that coming midway thru the 3rd. This could get the Bears right back on track now.
-
Well Norv Turner shut everyone up for a week at least. Although Denver's D-Line is probably the worst in the NFL right now. As for the Bears, it's the Adam Archuleta curse I tell you. Rams defense was never that good when he was there, Washington's D really struggled last season when he was there, and now the Bears (I'm only half kidding here). But for a run stopping safety who can't cover, if he can't tackle, well he's not much good then is he. If the Bears can't beat the Packers, looks like the wildcard is the best they can hope for, and even that might be a stretch.
-
Ugh. Just get right back in it after a goal from Ruutu, and they score on the PP 1 min later.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 07:04 AM) I've said this over and over again. Of all the sox prospects that have come to the show, Josh Fields is the most excited I've ever been for a prospect comming out of our minor league organization. IMO, he has potential star in this league when he gets more experience up in the show and just get better every year (hopefully he doesn't let down next season) I've always liked his potential. Yeah he's pretty much been the "main" position player prospect who's come up and made an impact for the Sox over the past 5 seasons. And that's probably my main "beef" with how our minor league system / drafting / talent evaluation etc. is run by the Sox hierachy. It's all well and good to try and lood up on good young pitching, because yeah, it's very valuable. I mean just look at the contracts the likes of Gil Meche, Ted Lilly got in the off-season. But in the past draft, we took 7 pitchers in a row IIRC. And at least those guys had better stuff, more power arsenals than your McCullough's and your Broadway's (the Duane Shaffer prototype prospect). But in my mind, with an aging roster of position players, the Sox need to either trade for some young hitters such as a Chin - Lung Hu who can contribute, or at least draft some earlier on in the next draft. Chris Carter looks like he could become a very good player 1 day based on his progress this season and his overall tools. I think Shelby could become a major league regular possibly, while the likes of Miranda and Getz could be future bench players. But other than that, the cupboard looks pretty bare. It's an area that REALLY needs addressing. And for the Sox to do this, and it is fixable, get those damn good prospects from the Dominican Republic. We need to find ways to get good young players from other avenues than the draft. Get every single possible advantage you can get to bring the best players you can into the system. Problem is, all of the other teams have basically picked up on this as well.

So wait a minute, Razor Shines was fired according to Ozzie because "He was too much like Ozzie!?" I don't see how that makes much sense to be honest.

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 02:11 PM) Someone mentioned this earlier, but what connections have been made with the Dodgers being interested in Garland? Is it just cause we assume Garland's going to go to every west coast team every offseason/trade deadline (I'm just as guilty of this as anyone). I'm confident in saying Garland will get traded this offseason, but I think it will be to a team like the Rockies or Mariners. I can't remember 100%, but I think even at the deadline there might have been a rumor or 2, and I think just here on soxtalk, people have seem the amazing prospects that they have and want to make a deal with them. And the Dodgers have some SP who are very injury prone, and it's likely Randy Wolf won't be back and whether Jason Schmidt will be the same again. So we'll wait and see what happens.
-
Well at least Javier Vazquez has turned into a very good SP for us no? IIRC, that was the main course of concern for posters on here when we made the deal, and THEN, re-signed him to a 3 year deal. There were also a lot of questions on whether Young would K too much and hit for a good another average at the major league level. Still has those isses obviously, but he's turned into a heck of a player, so KW obviously made a huge mistake not including Anderson IF the D-Backs were willing to do that.

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 01:46 PM) Yes, Meloan's their set-up man of the future, and Hu is their SS of the future. They're definitely their marquee prospects along with Kershaw. They're not "top" prospects like a Kershaw or a Kemp is though. They'd easily be "top" prospects if they were in our system though. I dunno, Ned Colletti's a very aggresive GM and his job's on the line right now. If they think Garland would more likely have a better season in 2008 than Blanton, they may go down that route, and then just take the draft picks if he doesn't re-sign.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 12:45 PM) Why would the Dodgers do that? They want to get rid of Furcal in order to get Hu into the lineup and free up some salary. Depends on who they get more value in a trade for I'd say to determine which 1 of those 2 they would give up. Furcal I think would be a perfect acquisition for the top of the order, however he's coming off a really disappointing season for him. Still in a contract year, and being able to rest over the off-season for those niggling knee and ankle injuries he had all season, I think he's prime for a big season in 2008.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 11:36 AM) Sounds like Koc had a hell of a fight. So he should, he's been practicing.
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 4, 2007 -> 02:40 PM) Our pitching was so much better than their's. We rocked. All they need is for 1 other starting pitcher besides Webb to get on a run though, and they can win the whole thing IMHO. And I'm rooting for them in the playoffs, partly because they've got so many great young players and are fun to watch, they're playing the Cubs 1st up, and I saw them a couple of years back. Josh Byrnes has done a FANTASTIC job as GM since he took over as well. Has there been a move that he's made that hasn't paid off over the past couple of years? He's rebuilt that pen, solidfied the rotation, and gotten that young core into the lineup.
