  1. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 04:07 PM) Conley, Darko, and Gasol...not bad Yeah it isn't too shabby at all. If I was going to pick a major sleeper next season besides Portland, I'd pick Memphis. Iavaroni was the major reason in Amare Stoduemire's development into a star. Now he has that chance again with Darko Milicic. Mike Conley will become his version of a poor man's Steve Nash who can't shoot, with Kyle Lowry backing him up. Mike Miller and Rudy Gay on the wings, Milicic and Gasol up front, with Warrick, Johnson etc. on the bench. I really like that team actually now that I look at it.
  2. You suprised at all that Carter hasn't been moved up to WS yet Dan?
  3. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 03:42 PM) Milicic to the Grizzlies. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19720687/ Sigh. It's a good situation for him though. Should get plenty of playing time alongside Gasol, and will fit into the uptempo system of Iavaroni's, and get plenty of open looks.
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 12:32 PM) sock-ker? Think of it as kicking bundles of hay around on the farms of Iowa.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 11:45 AM) When you say a "Big 4" team, I assume you're talking about Arsenal, Chelsea, Manny U and Liverpool? I'm also taking it that this is a tough sport to follow from America because, for the most part, you can't see the games live (well, most of them)? That's sort of a bummer... Yeah. Then you have the next tier of teams in Tottenham, Newcastle, Everton, West Ham, Man City and Aston Villa. I'd probably pick one of those, if you were going to choose a team outside the big 4. All have sizeable transfer budgets and European Aspirations (especially Tottenham, who want to crack into the top 4 places and get a Champions League spot).
  6. My thoughts are if you are going to pick a team, don't pick one of the big 4. It's more satisfying if you pick a team just outside of it, and if they do well, it's better (if you get that train of thought). However if you were going to pick a big 4 team, Liverpool would probably be one of the better choices. And they should contend this season after signing Fernando Torres for $20M. I don't think you can watch games on-line. In America I know you can watch 4 games a week live on Setanta Sports (if you are able to access that). If you were going to support a team with an American Connection, maybe Fulham? They have Carlos Bocanegra and Clint Dempsey on the books.
  7. Not a bad outing for Rasner although he gave up a few runs.
  8. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 08:47 AM) Considering the site crashed as I was trying to read this, I'll say do it. I thought it might have been "Gaged" already.
  9. A team would have to overpay for either Garland or Vazquez for us to deal them in my mind. We're dealing in a position of strength now. Deal the weakest starter (Contreras), and allow Floyd to settle in as the 5th starter. If Floyd can't get the job done, you move onto Gio Gonzalez. This team can easily contend next season, IF, they get more OBP and speed in the lineup (Ichiro), and fix the bullpen. We're set rotation wise. I just really feel like hanging onto Javy when he's really come on in strides this season. This time last season, people were really criticising him and KW for the Chris Young trade.
  10. Still if I was only offered Hu for Dye, I don't know if I would take that deal. You have to ask yourselves, is Hu worth more than 2 draft picks? Possibly yes, but possibly not, if he regresses hitting wise. Hence why I threw Kemp's name in there. I saw as well, the Dodgers had been linked to Contreras. If you threw Jose in there with Dye, then you could start talking about some of their better prospects. And just for comparisons sake, Jason Schmidt signed a 3 year deal for 45M in the off-season and hasn't pitched much at all this season. Hence, why it makes the Buehrle signing so good, and locking up Vazquez as well. And with Schmidt injured, probably why the Dodgers are being linked with pitching.
  11. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 11:03 AM) Hu is absolutely legit. I fell in love with this guy just watching him in today's game. Wow, he just knows how to play and has a very good mixture of tools. He's going to be the type of player that helps a team win for a long long time (to see him go opposite field and do the little things was just impressive). Of course I'm basing that on the one time I've seen him play but I've read other prognosticators who have said similar things. You have to remember, the Dodgers have Furcal at SS for the moment, and he's in what the 2nd year of a 3 year deal IIRC. Hu was a name I brought up when Dye was 1st linked to the Dodgers. He's fantastically defensively by all reports, the only question about him coming into this season was his hitting, and I think he's answered those by hitting about .320 in AA this season, with an OPS around the the .900 mark. If there was one position prospect from the Dodgers that you would target that REALLY fits a need for this ballclub going forward, it's Hu. I'd offer Dye and a bullpen arm for say Kemp and Hu, and try to start the negotiations from there. Of course I'm surprised the White Sox are being linked with Kemp after the incident he had Razor Shines, and fathom said he would never play for this organzation.
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) That is too big of a jump and there is no reason to do it. It's probably on the Bill Bavasi thought of rushing prospects (which isn't a good idea). I only brought up the idea because of the effect of pitching games in B-Ham has for a pitcher (look at Gio's numbers compared from last season, although he is repeating the level of course). But I think everyone knows he's outgrown low A ball and needs to be in W-S right now, at least by the end of the season. I'd like to see him start in B-Ham next season at least, if he does well in W-S for the rest of the season. Still it's just nice to be discussing this type of SP spect in our system for once.
  13. Sounds promising on DLS from what I've read here. Starting out in the low to mid 90's, and then hitting 95-96 as he went on. If he can develop that change (which I'm confident he can, because many other Sox SP prospects such as B-Mac have), he'll become quite the prospect. He's ready for high A, and I wouldn't mind seeing him in AA as a matter of fact. The ballpark will help him, but you've got to consider is he being rushed too early?
  14. Just the perfect way to head into the ASB. You can't now say the KW and JR won't pay pitchers good long - term deals. We've gotten Buehrle below market value, and it's a great deal for both sides. Everyone should be happy. Well everyone except Jose Contreras, who I doubt will be with this team for much longer. You can't trade Vazquez the way he is pitching ATM, unless someone really overpays, Danks ain't going nowhere, and I doubt Garland will be moved for the same reasons as Vazquez, so by the process of elinimation that means goodbye Jose.
  15. Seems like Sisco is progressing a little.
  16. I thought that was probably the most restrained I've heard you 2 since you've been broadcasting (well except for the end there). Good show again as per usual. Maybe an idea for the next show is to discuss some potential trade offers (if they haven't been done already), and what you think the Sox would target from certain teams e.g Billingsley and Betemit or Kemp from the Dodgers, and what you think they're more likely going to get etc. Could also disucss the merit of getting extra draft picks when the Sox's draft was received more favorably this season (although they loaded up on arms). And if you've jumped from 5 listeners to 100 in 1 week, well you must be doing something right.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 04:49 PM) Djokovic, Nadal, Federer > Roddick You forgot the best thing to come out of Serbia, Ana Ivanovic.
  18. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 7, 2007 -> 12:15 PM) The circumstances are different because of the possibility Buehrle/Contreras are dealt. Atleast one, maybe two, starters from within will probably be in the rotation next season. Even if Garza falls off a cliff, there's always Liriano to look forward to. And that Santana guy anchoring the rotation. Another difference is Garza's minor league resume is far more impressive than Floyds. I'm atleast willing to believe Garza can turn himself around, whereas Floyd has been more of an enegma for the better part of two years. 1 - Will Liriano fully recover from his surgery and be the same pitcher he was last season? 2 - Will Santana be in Minny next season? 2 - Floyd's number in AAA were better than Garza's this season IIRC. That tells me something there.
  19. I see Floyd has 14 ground outs and 1 fly ball out and yet has given up 4 HR's. So there lies the problem. If he's going to have success, he'll need better control and not give up the long ball so much. But it's a good sign he's gotten so many outs on the ground as well. The Twins hitters seem in the zone today as well though.
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) Listen Here The past couple weeks Mario and Jason discussed the fire sale, the organization's ineptitude over the Buehrle fiasco and now finally they've put the focus on the Sox biggest weakness....the bullpen. Do Mario and Jason think anyone in the pen should be around next season or do the Sox have a couple keepers in the pen. Gage and Scalise not only discuss this, but they throw out some scenarios in which they move certain relievers and write off certain relievers. Our second segment (brought on by the requests of the masses...ie our 5 listeners) involves a lecture by self proclaimed minor league expert Jason Gage, who teaches Scalise and the listeners a thing or two about the guys to be on the look out for in the Sox system (warning this segment is not for the faint to heart as Gage will point out the harsh reality that is the complete lack of position prospects in the org). So check it out, and give us some more feedback as well as information on what else you'd like us to banter about in our next show (which will be next weekend...barring some trades which would bring on an earlier special edition of SSR). Listen Here Nice to see the people getting what they asked for (all 5 of us). I too will listen tomorrow.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 09:20 AM) I know this won't be said, but both sides are playing some hardcore staredown games here. If this deal really doesn't happen, its pretty sad because of how close they really are. That being said, with it this close, I'll bet someone blinks. I think mostly everyone expects KW and JR will be the ones who'll have to save face here, but I actually think KW will really stick to his guns here on this one. So really I don't know what's going to happen here. All I know 56/4 for Buehrle in this market, is well a pretty good deal.
  22. Well it's nice to get some publicity for the site and some recognition. I think everyone who posts here, really enjoys doing so, and we really get into some great discussions about well anything. So well done to everyone in the SoxTalk community, from the posters, to all of the mods and the rest of the admin team for making this place what it is. A great place to talk baseball and anything else. And let's get some votes for this contest.
  23. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 12:42 PM) He continued to struggle in Kanny this year, but was promoted to Winston-Salem and moved to the pen. Not exactly a great sign for his future as a starter is it.
  24. And I blame wet slick footballs for my Cowboys not being in the Super Bowl.
  25. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 12:28 PM) I'll bet he wont. I'll blame you if he doesn't then.
